Confessions:Tell what you'll NEVER do again

I am hoping this thread will be like a "lessons learned" diary.

I confess that I will never highlight my hair again. I did it this summer and I am STILL dealing with the damage. I color my hair black 3-4 times a year and decided I wanted highlights....My stylist "thought" she could "lift" the black and apply some cute highlights :nono: Needless to saw, a few days later my hair was showing horrible signs of damage.....That is actually why my hair is so short right now.

Thank goodness I recently found LHCF.....this site is so educational!!!

So ladies.....what is your confession.....what will you NEVER do to your hair again????:wallbash:

Lesson learned:
I MUST keep my natural hair restrained in some manner. I can't just leave it out in a puff for 2 days and not expect major massive tangling. Before my head hits the pillow my hair MUST be braided and covered with my sleep bonnet. I can't just slap my bonnet on top of loose napps and not expect to pay the piper.

I will never bleach my hair again. It is the devil. I bleached 2 years ago and at the time had pieces a quarter inch short:blush:. After the bleach grew out I dyed again but steered clear of the bleach.

Rinses. Once in a while is cool. But anything over once a month is a :nono: for my hair.

Process on top of process. I had natural hair...dyed it (THE ENTIRE HEAD...root to tip) with two different types of permanent hair dye (red) every month!....then got the BRIGHT idea to put a relaxer in it after 2 years of that a$$ne$$! Now I remind my hairdresser EVERY time I go to ONLY touch up my ROOTS!...I don't care what she thinks needs "refreshing."

Back in the day, I used SunIN as well as glue bonding a weave...NEVER AGAIN.... Also, frying my hair daily with a flat iron. This caused my thin, fragile hair to have severe split ends and breakage.

Currently, no colors, no relaxer, and no heat (the last time I used my maxiglide was two months ago for a length check)

I'll never bleach my hair again. The first time i went natural about 4 years ago, i bleached my hair until some areas were almost platinum! Sure, it was cute and i got mad compliments and it did grow pretty long...but it looked so unhealthy and was DRY. Then i relaxed it. It was so unhealthy i had to cut it quite a bit. At this point i had relaxed blonde hair, but decided i wanted darker hair again, so i put in a black rinse which then turned my hair GREEN!!:lachen::lachen: After my bc in April i put a little bit of bleach on my hair and i can totally see the difference in the bleched hair than in my natural hair without it. So no more bleach for me!

I don't think I'll ever use Aphogee anything again. It just doesn't seem to work for me. I need to find another source of protein; I got excited with hype of how everyone gets phenomenal results from it but I see more hair off my head after using it than on my head. :lachen: Ok, well you get my point. Sooooooo: Goodbye Aphogee! :giveup:Now searching for another source of protein.

I will NEVER PUT A RELAXER IN MY HAIR EVER AGAIN!!!! My last relaxer was in March 07.

Also, I will never put braids/twists (extensions) in my hair EVER AGAIN!!!!

-I will not relax again. Even though my hair thrived under relaxers for 19 years, after I went natural, my hair really started to hate relaxers (oh, the breakage).

-I will not attempt to straighten with a cheap flat iron. No damage - it just doesn't straighten.

-I will not go back to moisturizing my hair once a week. Matting

-I will not put honey on my hair during winter. Every time I've done it (just did it today), my ends feel all fried, and I get a lot of breaking/shedding. No more (I'm not sure it's the culprit yet, but I'm going to be on the safe side for a while).

-I will not braid my hair and not wash it until I take the braids down. I didn't have any problems when I did it, but it just seems kinda weird now that I look back on it.

CONFESSIONS?

It's suppose to be things you are ashamed of..not things you did that didn't work. Otherwise it would be WHAT PRODUCTS/TECHNIQUES/PRACTICES WILL YOU NEVER DO AGAIN BECAUSE IT DIDNT' WORK OUT...

Lol. Tell the dirty stuff. Like sleeping for a MONTH w/o your satin scarf and than getting on LHCF crying about breakage.
HAHAHAHAHA!

I will not relax again. I don't begrudge anybody who does. But when I was relaxed my hair was limp, thin...just lifeless. It only looked good when I had it in a really short cut. And, I've been loving my natural hair since October 2003.

I will not put in extensions again. I just don't have the skills to take care of them properly. I had kinky twists in 07...when I took them out, I was pulling out plugs of hair...it did more harm than good...and led to the BC of September 2007.

I will not do my own color, when it comes to permanent color. Much as the gray hairs are getting on my nerves right now, this is something I would leave up to the professionals.

I think that's it for now...

Ooooh girl, my sister had a bleach in her hair last year and put a black rinse over it when she got tired of it and the same thing happened to her hair.....green like the amazon forest:lachen:. So I told her to henna her hair and I am not kidding, her hair turned out downright gorgeous and I never saw that green mess ever agian. She liked it so much, I can't seem to get her to stop using all my henna. I think it's about time she buy her own henna:grin:.

Anyhoo, the one thing I won't do again is allow anyone to put a weave on very fine cornrows anymore. My fine hair couldn't handle the weight of the weave on such fine rows. Needless to say, my hair thinned out terribly and when i noticed it, it was too late and so I stopped going to that stylist and now I find that my medium sized braids seem to work way better. I'll stick with the braids for now:yep:.

Oh I am ashamed of the Sunit..I look like an orangutan with dry brittle hair. The bonded weave left bald spots when it was removed. I was a hot mess.

lol! i'll take it all! This is some great stuff so far!

I was really sick a couple of weeks ago and my hair was jacked. i didn't comb, wash, dc or do anything wiht it for about a week and a half. i didn't even moisturize. when i started to feel a little bit better, i wanted to look really nice for my so. he was really taking care of me when i was sick. i wasn't well enough to rollerset though. so i washed. dc'd for about 30 minutes without heat. detangled from root to tip very impatiently and lost a ton of hair. my aunt blowdried my soaking wet hair and then flatironed it. i did use a heat protectant. my hair was swanging. lol. i had to do a protein treatment next wash b/c it was acting up after that kinda treatment.

eta: i also did not sleep with any headtie for that whole time i was sick.

You a plum fool! :lachen:

Never again will I use Frizz Remover from Sally's. That mess made my hair look good for about 5 minutes and damaged it for a good year! it had thio in it... I think it was Jherri Redding? And then my hair wasn't even frizz free.

Never again will I bleach my hair after putting Frizz Remover on it... and then try to use a dark red hair color... No ma'am. I had hair that was all kinds of textures and colors... with all types of funky mess in between. And my hair kept turning colors...

Never again will I cut all my hair off.... dye it red... and cover it with a wig without moisture, protection or a protective style. I would have a hard, frizzy, matted up mess, and I never understood why my naturals would look good.

Never again will I recolorm hair a million shades of red.... within 2 months. I ended up with Irish Spring coppery red.... it was metallic looking. It would have looked nice on someone with a different complexion... (I really wanted.. and still want that red shade that girl in Destiny's Child had).

Never again will I put a HOT flatiron on wet hair... with wet moisturizer. I burned my hair OFF... and smelled it...

Never again will I put double sided tape on my edges to make a lacefront look nice... it took months to get my edges back.

Never again will I give in to creamy crack temptation WITHOUT taking a good look at all my natural maintenance options.

Never again will I let ANYONE walk up and touch my hair, make comments or remarks about my hair... or let anyone try to tell me how to handle my hair.... unless they are a beautiful BSL or lower length... with MY type of hair... or unless I asked them to.

Colored my hair PERMANENT 3 times in 4 days!!! yes i did that...i was obsessed with this color Rihanna had before her Good Girl Gone Bad Days so i saw a Lorel Box with a color similar...colored my hair that same night and it was too dark...so i bought another box (lighter shade) the next day and my hair turned ORANGE!!!!! :wallbash: so i went back to the store and bought a black permanent and call it a day!!!!
Needless to say...i paid for what i did...so i chopped my hair off into a cute Halley/Eva haircut and now i'm growing it back!

Ahem, where is your dirt? :look:

I think not washing my hair for 6 weeks because it was in braids was pretty low down. I just didn't know I could wash it or do anything else to it. *skin crawl*

ETA: Okay, nevermind. I see you're the one who had extensions and didn't wash for 5-6 weeks. I did that do, and I don't understand how my hair was not stinking or didn't just fall out my head. 6 weeks of no washing, no moisturizing, nothing. And somehow, my hair was fine. I don't get it.

OH my!!!!:nono:

Well some things I'm ashamed of that I did this year and never will repeat are...

stretching past 12 weeks without braids
relaxing over already relaxed hair because it was too underprocessed
letting people put very tight braids in my hair
not watching the braiders to make sure they braid way past my hair before they dip the ends in hot water
not moisturizing while in braids/ kinkys
washing hair right before taking cornrows and tracks out (bald spots from matting)
not trimming regularly

Oh I am ashamed of the Sunit..I look like an orangutan with dry brittle hair. The bonded weave left bald spots when it was removed. I was a hot mess.

You didn't say all this in your original post. Yea girl I would be ashamed too...I did something silly like this before and I am happy I have lived and learned past that foolishness. My edges are still recovering though. :wallbash: 5 YEARS LATER!

uuummm a friend of mine wants to know why, :look:, I think she almost just did this, she was one week short.

uGH.::takecover::..I guess i forgot the part about being inconsistent with using my braid spray. So not washing..not using braid spray it was just a mess. I am lucky I still have healthy hair on my head.

I am a NO poo type of girl, but you have to keep your hair clean and moisturized. So I would have been using water and conditioner at least every 2 weeks, but preferablly every week. And spraying down with my favorite braid spray EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I dont' treat my real hair like that and I keep it in twist or some type of stable style every week...so why would it be ok to not wash my hair or keep it moistruized while it is in braids?

My hair still needs care.

I will never again

-Flat iron my hair more than once a month.
-Relax my hair with a no lye relaxer.
-Go natural (just not for me). If I absolutely have to due to some unforseen circumstance, I will get proffesionally done dredlocks
-Wear my hair down for more than 3 days straight
