What does it mean for someone's hair to be coarse. How does coarse hair behave?

to me course hair applied to the strand. my sister and nephew have thick, course hair. By that I mean their hair strands are thick, the strands are extremely strong and dense. You could actually take their hair and thread a needle without it breaking. HTH

Coarse hair is porous hair. Thick hair is usually coarse but not always. Coarse hair can look dry even when it isn't. Coarse hair does not have much of a natural shine.

My hair is very thick and coarse. It sucks up moisture like a sponge. Parts of my hair look really dry but are soft to the touch. My hair can hold a press and curl forever. I never had to use hair spray.
