Cheap Conditioners...

Do cheap conditioners reverse your perm? According to my stylist, he says they do.

First of all, I didn't know perms could revert. It's a perm, right?

Does anyone know if this is true? Also, should we stick mainly to conditioners designed and marketed for black women?

I sometime use Pantene, Nature's Gate, and even Suave. I didn't really give it much thought that the models are all white, but now considering what my stylist said about cheap conditioners, perhaps it's not wise to use products designed for people with a different texture of hair (although mine is chemically straightened).

Relaxers are permanent. Your hair can not revert. Whenever, I use the term "revert" I'm always referring to underprocessing. If your relaxer is applied correctly, no shampoo or conditioner will change that. However, if your hair is underprocessed, then you may have a bad experience with a conditioner that isn't as moisturizing.

I have used Pantene and Suave for my condition-only washes with no problem. However, for a deep conditioning I prefer to use a thicker conditioner like LeKair Cholesterol or Motions Moisture Plus.

I don't know where some stylists come up with this stuff...
I don't know what all they learn in cosmetology school, but I was college-educated in a hard science.
I did a simple google search to find out how relaxers work. They break bonds in your hair so that it will
lay straight, simply put. Nothing on the market has been formulated that can re-form those chemical bonds, and
a cheap conditioner CERTAINLY does not have the ability to carry out a reaction that complicated. Your instincts
were 100% right Blossom.

If anyone were to ever come up with something like this, they will make A LOT of money by
giving women the ability to transfer from natural to relaxed and back like they switch between hair colors.
That would be the dawn of a new hair era

I agree...sounds like he has something more expensive in mind for you to buy. For me it is whatever works...regardless of the cost..and of course if it works AND is cheap it gets 2 thumbs up from me!

All I have to say is if it isn't broke then don't fix it. I just tried aussie moist and think it is the best thing I have ever put in my hair. He could be trying to figure out if he can make some commission off of you.

I agree...sounds like he has something more expensive in mind for you to buy. For me it is whatever works...regardless of the cost..and of course if it works AND is cheap it gets 2 thumbs up from me!

Conditioners are about their ingredients and what benefits they will bring to the hair - not the cost!

. I'm am so tired of these ignorant a-- stylists lyin'. I hold them to a greater level of responsibility for spreading their ignorance. I mean they are supossed to be experts? specialists? consultants? educated? I've never had a bad salon experience to be so bitter and worked up. It's just all the experiences that I’ve read about on this board I'm ready to

Blossom, did your stylist show you some more expensive salon conditioners that he thought might work better for your hair? It sounds to my like he definitely wanted you to buy something from his shop.

I think that as long as it works for you, it doesn't matter how much it costs. I, for one, love the V05 conditioners. They smell wonderful and they leave my hair soft.

Blossom, I've never had a problem with a "reverting" perm due to cheap conditioners, if it's even possible. To add to it, my entire hair regime is "cheap". I use "cheap" box perms, cheap conditioners, cheap shampoos, cheap moisturizers, get the picture? Out of all of this cheap stuff, my hair still does not revert... again, if it's even possible.

Watch out girl, that guy could have a hidden agenda...

No I don't believe that Blossom. First of all hair stylists push the products that they get discounts on to make money am I right tekmommie? I notice certain salons only use certain products no matter what you say. So if he was trying to sell you something as Cindy said then that's why he said that.

Second of all even if he wasn't trying to sell you something he doesn't know what he's talking about because if that was the case...when people wanna go natural they wouldn't have to get the perm cut off or let the perm grow out. From what I've learned there's nothing that will really strip or revert the perm. If it does revert it's because it was under processed to begin with. Did this happen to you? When you washed it did it look like it hadn't been permed? If so then he probably doesn't want to admit that he screwed up.
