I was just on her website (until about 130am), and I was wondering the same thing. Her hair is very nice! I wouldn't mind that right now to keep my neck warm!! LOL!!

Anyone?!

me~

On the last day of March, 2005, my mum gave me a "trim." My APL hair went to barely full SL! lol, but anyway, this was a month or so after I bought her products, read her books, etc. After my cut, my split ends were gone and my hair looked fuller. I vowed to keep it that way. So I used her methods religiously. Washed every 3 days. Alternated DCs with my moisture (Keracare Humecto bottle) and her protein conditioner. I used Keracare Dry and Itchy Scalp on moisture day, and Keracare Hydrating & Detangling Poo on protein Days. By June my hair was right around APL, not quite full though.

I can never stick to a regimen long though. I haven't really used that regimen since summer even though the results were amazing *sigh*

There was a Cathy Howse Challenge (that is closed now) on blackhairmedia.com. I think its under the challenges sticky in the hair growth department. hth

Yes when I first started my journey that's what I started with. I love the UBH conditioner and it will always be apart of my staple. Following her regimen has always helped my hair grow out beautifully but as soon as I get to APL I start acting up and not taking care of my hair. This will be my third time at APL, this time I'm determined to get it right and grow my hair out. Anyways IMO I think her method works great and it's quite simple to follow.

it's been a looooong time since I read about her system. But I don't believe that she claims to promote fast growth. And none of her products contain any growth enhancing ingredients. So i dont think thats a claim that she can make. I think she is more about hair retention (keeping hair moisturized daily and protein often to minimize breakage and thin ends). In that respect, yes her regimen is great.

I like her products too, mainly the dew spay. But the ingredients are sooo basic and cheap, i can't figure out what her products are so expensive. so i doubt i'll buy again.

Yes I started my journey using the Cathy Howse method and it completely turned my hair around. Reading thru some of the questions on her site is actually how I found out about LHCF. Her method is very basic (wash/DC twice per week and moisturize daily) and good results can probably be obtained by using other products. I still use her conditioner but I alternate with others. I absolutely love the Dew and it has become one of my staples.

I didn't use her products but I used the regimen (washing every three days, moisturising and protein treating, no trimming) on her website when I first started my journey and I also took the challenge. It got my hair on track and I retained 6" at the end of the year. I started at just above SL and by the end of the year I was APL.

Hi, I am a newbie, I hope I don't sound crazy, but, what is the Cathy Howse system?
Hey 4everbeautiful, you can google Cathy Howse or Ultra Black Hair (her company) and you will be able to view her story, products, etc. Mizani Mrs is right on point: she promotes washing and DC every three days and moisturizing everyday. Her products and system was the first I used when I started my hair journey last year. I didn't stick with it because the conditioner made my hair hard and I didn't know anything about following it with a moisturizing condish afterwards. She's against combing the hair when wet and suggests not using a brush at all. Her book details a lot of her recommendations. Her moisturizing lotion is okay; it's something about it that makes my hair feel filmy but others love it. The dew is like putting water on my hair, but the DC, I love the tingling it gives. I do have to follow it with a moisturizing condish or my hair will snap, crackle and pop.

ITA. I used her regimen and got back to my original length in no time... and then I stopped. Why? Dunno. I should probably go back to her products and regimen. But 1) They're on the expensive side and 2) Her conditioner is soooooooooo thick!! It's frustrating. I always use more than I have to :(

Great growth and mostly return to thick healthy hair. No more thin, stuck to the head relaxed hair for me! Her second book "chemical reaction" encouraged me to move to lightly relaxed hair. I am not ready to go natural yet.

Her products are my staples and my rescue products when I jump on bandwagons.

I agree that she doesn't nec promote her products as a growth aids, but her DC has peppermint oil/essence in it, which can promote growth. Also, her assertion that BW should wash their hair more often to cleanse the scalp and keep pores clear will result in optimal growth, which may be more than what BW may have experienced prior to doing this.

I started my hair journey using her system. If used religiously, your hair will not only be retained, it will "bling." :yep:

ITA- i think she should put her DC and creme moisturizer in jars...

Yeah PJism got the best of me, and then I had to run right back to the conditioner. It's just a sacrifice that I have to make and I don't mind it. Yeah I wish her products were more readily available so I wouldn't always have to order it off Honeyfig. I kind of understand about the conditioner being so thick, man I can hardly get it out the bottle at times. I think she should make them available in a jar like someone else mentioned, that would make it so much easier. I kinda like that it's thick though because I use it to stretch out other conditioners so that way it lasts me for a long time.

i have her conditioner and her dew. i havent used the dew yet but i think i might wait til the sumer since it has coconut oil in it. the conditioner i only used once and it was ok that i remember. i might use it again with in the next two weeks.

I started out with her system. That's how I found Long Hair Care Forum actually. I haven't used her conditioner sense the summer so I never really gave it a chance. I immediately started to try and find protein alternatives that would work just as well so I wouldn't be a slave to her expensive products. I never really liked the dew. I'm actually thinking about selling my bottle of her conditioner that I have left. I'm not sure if I should use it up or not

bump....whats so different about her method and the methods on hair boards? my current reggie
pre-poo, shampoo 1x a week, Co-wash 1x a week, (so basically wash my hair every 3-4 days), DC 2x a week. protein when needed. low manipulation styles. wide-toothed shower comb only. moisturize and seal daily. usually morning and night. no direct heat. just a hooded dryer on low heat to do my weekly rollerset.
does she have some special secret for retaining length?

I started with her book, but IMPO there is better info on this board in regards to growth and retention. Minus the try my dew references inserted everywhere. and I dont agree with this tagline - The only proven black hair growth system in the world -

http://public.fotki.com/mcelweep/

here is a member/former member (not sure which) who used her system to grow her own hair. the only thing she added to the system was protective styling.

it's a great success story. she credits the cathy howse system with her success. she's also a sweet person as well, was always very helpful, etc.

not sure if she still is on the boards, but check out her fotki anyway.

hth

alll ya have to do is keep a protein/moisture balance and protective style. you dont neeed to by a book to find this out. in her book, she is basicaly saying things that have already been said.

shoot, all he WL and HL ladies on here should sell their regimen too.

Cathy was a great start for me, and put me on the right track, however I NEVER believe that the same products will work on everyone, and there are DEF better & cheaper products out there.

This site & info makes Cathly Howse small fry:lachen:
