Cathy Howse Link?

Crystal

Well-Known Member
There was a thread on here, I thought last week, where someone posted a link to a bunch questions that Cathy was going to have the answers to June 1st... I was interested in seeing how she answered some of the questions and I also wanted to give her a second chance since my first impression of her wasn't all that great.

I have searched and searched and I can't find that thread for the life of me.. it has disappeared... can someone please post the link to Cathy's website again where she answers customers questions. Or bump the thread that I can't find.. It made mention of LHCF on Cathy's site.

Thanks

Thanks Chipmunk.
I should have written down the questions I was looking for her to answer because It's taking me a minute to weed through all her questions.

But she did address and answer the LHCF thing though however she didn't say much, but she answered the question well enough I guess.

"16. I just wanted to share a chuckle with you, I participate on a Hair Forum "Long Hair Care Forum" Well from time to time "Cathy Howse" comes up and of course there are mixed reviews but some of the negative things people say are so stupid. Anyway, I am always advocating you and they said that I must be a "spy" for you. I think it's funny that people will do and say anything, rather than to give people the recognition that they are due. I'm a pastor's wife so I'm so used to this. Well This young lady came to me at church in the bathroom and she said "Miss your hair is so pretty and long what do you do or has it always been long" I told her the story of the evil hearted hairdresser that cut 6 inches off my hair and how I found your book, conditioner and dew I asked if she heard of you and she said no. It's surprising to hear that so many people have not heard. Well I ordered more dew the other day and the Lord put on my heart to give her my book, now for me that was like asking Abraham to slay Issac, I'm like my book?!?!? LOL Well I have personal ties to that book so, when I ordered my dew I ordered her a book. So she can have her own brand new copy. Sometimes we don't like to share with others we want to keep good things to ourselves, (not tell our secrets) but you really need to be exposed as much as possible, so everytime someone asks, I tell them UBH and give them the site address. Word of mouth is it.

Back to the forum, this woman said well, "I would never use her stuff, because of her attitude when answering questions." I said well that's kinda like not buying toothpaste to prove a point, You NEED the toothpaste, the toothpaste does'nt need YOU. I think I got people kinda hot over there.. Oh well. I'm glad that I gave it try, amid all the negative comments. Sorry, did'nt mean to write a book here."I'd also like to comment about some of the negative remarks I've read about your hair care techniques. I enjoy reading books about black history makers -- King, Tubman, Robinson, Dubois --the list goes on and on. The one thing all of these great men and women had in common was people who would tear them down. So please just ignore the haters and keep on stepping up. Thanks for putting in the hard work on behalf of sisters every where and I wish you much continued success."

God needed a big mouth messenger who is not afraid of a billion dollar industry of crooks! I am guided by my creator and I will die defending the cause and right of the black women who want to wear their own hair!!!! Thank you for helping continue spread the word. You know we were warned that the truth will fall on deaf ears. Many years later this lady will look back and realize you had the truth! "

For real???? Ok, so is she saying that this person was sent from God to educate women about how her products can help them? And her products are the "truth". And she's the only "toothpaste" available? Sounds kinda

Maybe it's just me.

Okay I've read over just a few of her questions and answers and I'm wondering what you ladies think about some of the advice she offers.

This came from the shampooing section:

"5. I was wondering, how often would you say that you change shampoos?

When you see or feel buildup on the hair or when the scalp gets scaly is my recommendation. Itching is another time I may decide to change."

I've seen some girls on this forum who have said that they used the same shampoo for years... I'm just wondering how often do you guys change shampoos.. Lord knows since you all have turned me into a PJ I have a pretty impressive stash of poos... but I'm just curious to know how often you guys change and when.

And also to this answer by Cathy.

"14. I noticed that in your book you mentioned to only wash your hair with shampoo once, what if I have dry scalp?

Shampooing more than once is too drying for the hair. Every time you reshampoo you get more suds. The more suds you get, the more oil that will be stripped from the hair. You are using an acid product so you dont get as much suding. Your goal is not to strip the hair everytime you wash it! Wash more often, and shampoo only once per wash. The dry scalp itching scalp can be caused by things you are putting on your scalp. Try leaving off putting anything on your scalp and wash more often to see if this cures your dry scalp."

Now for me, I like me a good lather and I've never heard of washing just once? Once does nothing for me... But what do you guys think of this? What are your opinions on only doing one wash...she mentions it several times.. Those who do this, do you find it to be a good techinique?

I think I load my hair with too many leave-ins to do ths.

I think that is why people do conditioner washes, cause of the dryingness of shampoos. I could be wrong.

I did hear though that if you wash your hair every 3-4 days it's should'nt be that dirty for a 2nd sudsinig. I can't remember where though.

The vits was one issue I had with CH...MSM has been scientifically proven to increase the growth rate of hair... I just think she should research the effects of vits a little more before discreditng them, especially sense she has such a large following.

Even though I don't particularly like her tone or some of her advice, I think she offers a good service and is a starting point for women who want to achieve long healthy hair.. I don't think any of her advice is harmful and it's cool that she answers so many questions. I'm a read through more... I may reconsider and buy her Hair Dew.

Hey Mindy, So do you only do a one wash? Do you think your hair is better for it?

I wash twice a week and I lather up probably 3-4 times. I put a lot of product on my hair including the profectiv lines which are really heavy and I also put Scurl and an oil on it. I'm wondering though If maybe i'm replenishing the moisture. That one wash just doesn't seem like my hair would be clean, even with Conditioner washes. (I don't do Conditioner only washes)

Depends on if I'm being Lazy or not. Usually I do a good job with one sudsing though. (used to always to 2 out of habit) My mom used to say "your hair ain't clean unless it squeaks."

Now I know that squeakin is strippin
crazy.gif

I use two shampoos when I clarify. One lather Keracare and One lather either CON or JAY - I think your right, it depends on how much goop you put on. I usually dont use much stuff on my hair.

After reading Cathy's response again, I guess I'm a little like "whoa" I don't necessarily think that the hair care industry is a billion dollar industry of crooks I think the problem lies in that black women are grossly uneducated about their hair. I don't think that's the fault of the hair care industry. But forums like this and websites and books like Cathy's are spreading the word. We now know, our daughters will know and so forth.. it's just about slaying myths, re-educating ourselves and sharing information.

Man, I don't know how to feel as a member of LHCF. I don't refute all of Cathy's claims. I am temporarily on the no-trim tip (mainly b/c my stylist takes off too much). But now I feel like we're all being labeled as "skeptics and problems". I hope I just misguided. I guess ArmyQT summed it up by saying

I crack up at this statement everytime I go back and re-read the Q&A.

I had wrote Cathy Howse at her website one day and asked her a question about how I can use her system while being on the no-poo. She criticized me by saying "where did you hear such nonsense" (refering to not shampooing my hair) She ended the message saying that I was going to end up with a real bad scalp infection. I thought she was real rude. You can tell by looking through her website that she think she is better then everyone. She even have a link called 'competitors' where she is talking mess about certain black hair authors. I respect authors of black hair books because they are giving up helpful info to help us save our hair.--but I would never buy her book because I don't think she know what she is talking about. I've been doing conditioner washes for 6 months and I have not develop a scalp infection. And why would you not trim your hair if your ends are damage?

Plus you all know the link could'nt be found cause it was closed. Yet somehow you manage to keep bringin up the name. Keep lookin to the site. Why care what she thinks?? Hmm, I wonder.
