Caramel Treatment Users...Help please!

Hey Ladies! I plan to do a caramel treatment for added moisure and shine before the week is up I have a basic recipe I plan to use:

shea butter
olive oil
coconut oil
banana baby food
honey
molasses
cornstarch (to thicken if needed)
coconut milk (to thin mixture if needed)

I'll adjust measurements as I begin mixing.

I'm just curious about what to do after I rinse it out. Will rinsing with water be enough or do I need to shampoo/co-wash? All help is appreciated! I'll post results after I do the treatment.

I don't know about this treatment - But the original caramel treatement would need to be shampooed out - due to the high level of honey and molasses in the original mix.

etae suggests shampooing after this pre-poo treatment.

Thanks dear! I figured I may have to, but I didn't want to wash away the benefits of the treatment.

Most recipes I've come across also include ACV, if I add it I'm probably cut out the coconut milk so it's not too liquified.

I plan to use regular molasses because that's what I have, but what's the diff between black strap and regular molasses? I saw both at the market

You won't wash away any benefits.

Black strap molasses is more pure and better for your hair.

:yep:

Hi, I used the Etae Caramel Treatment last night and it was great. I rinsed with luke warm water, and then I co-washed with V05 Free Me freesia and then applied NTM Daily Deep Conditioner.

No shampooing necessary!

I myself use regular Molasses, but I haven't tried the black strap one. I would just suggest to go very easy with the molasses b/c I've noticed that it can easily take over the mix.

After I rinse out the mix I just use maybe a quarter size amount of poo, then I use conditioner etc like normal.

It was actually quite good. I used a lot (Check out Fotki) to cover my hair and uhm.. it tasted good too :lick:.
:lachen:
I may not buy it again though, might just make the at home version and keep it refrigerated for future use.

MY new growth feels 'more natural' but is sooo soft, I mean soft soft! It's not even funny.

Definitely worth it!

I'm going to try this next week. Hopefully it can help me to stretch. I'll be at 12 weeks soon and would like to make it to 16. Sabino Moisture Block has been helping this time so far, but no matter what, I can't get my roots (esp in the front) all the way straight.

It didn't make my roots straighter though. And well I air dried, I haven't used heat in a long time.

This is not a straightening treatment. The original Etae is designed to impart moisture, not straightness.

u are right...if u want straight roots ur gonna have to flat iron or blow dry. but the treatment does work to make roots straighter easily

Total co-sign with both. I'm not sure if it's the extra moisture, or what, but it makes things easier.

I don't use shampoo, at all, and normally, I just rinse it out (homemade version) - honey & molasses dissolve in water, so I never felt the need for something to 'clean' my hair with.

hey divine ! dont know anything about this treament, just saying hi!:lachen:

Heifer I jus spoke to you less than 12hrs ago...stop invading my posts...lol. J/K. I mish yall.

Ooh you should let me try the caramel trmt on you, I'll use extra molasses and honey and acv then I'll send you to work and you can let it soak in :yep:

Thanks for all the great input ladies I can't wait to try this. I'm going to co-wash after I rinse. How long should I leave this in?

& Chauncee thank for the molasses tip. I thought I might have to go get the blackstrap one I avoided because I read it has a strong scent.

I love it! I try to leave it in for an hour under dryer, at least 2 hours without. It makes my hair moist...and "pops" my waves...when straightening, it is like a fresh relaxer....and no poo necessary, it rinses clean...

The Verdict....

(wet, co-washed hair after treatment)

ICK!!!!!!!

Traditional caramel treatments are not for me :ohwell:

I have dense 4a hair with fine strands that don't respond well to oils; I was light handed with the evoo & coconut oil, but I still ended up with rough, super tangled hair. To make it worse the shea butter coated my tresses beyond belief. I had to wash twice with a clarifying poo then condition, but the damage was done and my frizzy hair was super shrunken, un-defined, mildly greasy and still tangled.

For those looking to use this for moisture, if your hair doesn't respond well to oils tweak the recipe first. For those looking to use this as a texture "loosener" it DOES work, because it's so heavy, although I wish it hadn't loosened my s-patterned hair because the result is a mess.

I co-washed today & my hair is back to it's old self for the most part. I'm not going to give up on the caramel treatment all together, but I'll know for next time to ditch the shea butter, evoo & coconut oil and substitute castor oil & glycerin...gotta use up all this banana baby food somehow.

I am sorry honey.

Everything is not for everyone.

Shea Butter is VERY heavy for some. That might have been the problem. Shea Butter never rinses cleanly out of my hair. So - I don't really use it much. If you did not shampoo - then you would moslt likely be very unhappy with the result.

The original recipe works very well.

I'm glad this worked out for you in the end though!
