MsLizziA yep, I surely do have a maxi-glide...its great, I go back and forth btwn that and my Amika, right now im liking my ceramic one more 4 whatever reason....currently rockin a press right now as a matter of fact![]()
I blow dry with a standard heat protectant, and then I apply a tiny dab of Crisco to each section just before I flat-iron it. My flat-irons come out silky and last for 1-2 weeks. (I do this to my 12 yo DD's natural 4a-4b hair, and my 14 yo DD's 1-year post transitioning hair, and I set the temp at 325-375).
both girls get full reversion on wash day.
I typically do a deep condition with a conditioner that has a ton of cones in it. I let my hair air dry a little then add some shea butter and spritz with my heat protectant on each section. Then I add a little One & Only Argon serum and spray more heat protectant then do the comb chase method and flat iron. I get the same silky results, swing and no heat damage.
Wow... I don't blow dry but might have to try that Crisco thing while flat ironing (if I ever stop being a chicken)!
Does it cause your hair to smoke? And does it have that dead-on Crisco smell?
Not really, not to me anyway. Just that flat-ironed hair smell, LOL.
Same here,.....I've come to find that for my type 4 coils, braiding my detangled hair in 12+ tight braids, air-drying with a light liquid leave-in, then going straight to the flat ironing step gets me the same silky straight results with half the heat, less dryness and completely eliminates that "burnt hair smell". That was such a breakthrough for me I was so happy to share that on my blogI agree with BlackMasterPiece's tips.
LOL @ flat-ironed smell. @MyAngelEyez~C~U I have become such a snob since my April 2009 flat iron that I will NOT accept the flat-iron smell. I didn't have it during that press, after or during my wash and know now that that smell isn't necessary for your hair to be straight. I used my Babyliss Pro Ceramic iron at its highest setting 230 degrees Celsius/446 degrees Fahrenheit. No heat damage, and my hair was pretty straight.

MyAngelEyez~c~u:That's interesting. How did using Crisco come about?
MsLizziA I go back and forth between warm and high and hot and high....its whatever I feel like, no I dont feel like I get any heat damage from it.
