Can there be TOO MUCH attention??

I don't mind the attention my hair gets. I appreciate it and accept it as a compliment. Even when I wear mine in a protective style, it still gets stares. I would like to think these are good stares!
Nothing, except for a bad hair day, :look: would keep me from wearing my hair loose, if that's what I want.

So enjoy the looks and stares Model Chick. It's usually the only way strangers know how to compliment another person and your hair certainly is beautiful!

ModelChick,
I have never been stared at because of my hair, but I have gotten stares on occasion and usually if they finally say something to me or if I overhear them its because they think I'm somebody else, like someone on tv. Usually it's someone famous and/or pretty. I've seen your album and the problem is that you are just a little more gorgeous than most, okay? Great big ol' pretty hair, pretty face, cute clothes, cute figure, big ol' happy smile. Those things attract attention. Enjoy and be happy with it--it's your gift and its God-given. But like you I have on occasion gone undercover because sometimes too much attention can be overwhelming. But if I were you, I'd enjoy every minute of it. I'm glad you came to LHCF with this problem because many of the women here I'm sure can relate. Good luck cutie!

Model Chick,
Your hair looks pretty in your avatar! Are you a summer baby too?

Back to the topic: I'm uncomfortable with the attention I get when I wear my hair fully blown out because it's big. But if I just wear it curly, I feel it's pretty low key (because it looks less kinky).

It depends on the day. Sometimes you want to be the center of attention, and some days you dont.

My hair is pretty big and voluminous, and I usually wear my texturized coif in big twist-outs, which contrast with the conservative, governmental gig I work in. I do get stares. I sometimes get compliments. But I am the type of woman who gets stared at almost no matter where I go or how my hair is. It's not because I am conventionally "pretty," it's because I have a hodgepodge of unique features that, when combined, lend a sort of exoticism to me. Plus, I am confident.

When any woman has that - big hair or not - people will stare. People would stare at Model_Chick even if she sported a baldie.

Thx ladies--you all are the BEST!!!

Yep! I'm a summer baby too--AND a Cancer!

Your pics are fabulous!

BTW you should check your profile! IT says that your hair is Type 1 and that you are both from and LIVE in Afghanistan lol.

My hair is definately too big to wear "out" every single day. Not to mention it takes too much work to make it look good in the morning.
I would feel very self conscious if I wore my hair big and curly on a week day, because it's huge. I can only do that for special occasions...

I've got big Diana Ross hair too, but I always keep it up in a bun. Everyone at school can tell I have really long, thick hair and they all think its down to my butt! Ha ha, I'll just let them think that.

girl i'm sure those stares are all good...ahh you said your hair is growing like a weed.....one of the lovely things about south florida, when i was living there my hair was longer than it has ever been, I didn't have issues with it again until i moved back to a cold climate....i mean i could go to the hairdresser, if i wanted too not do anything to it for two weeks (no products, just wrap at night and comb down) and it would still be bouncy and swingy....i think the climate there promotes healthy hair.

anyway wear your hair any way you want and be proud! it's miami, everyone stares at everyone, trying to see if you are famous :)

MC, I know sometimes the looks can be overwhelming but just take the stares as complements even if that is not the case and the person is jealous or envious which in my case I wouldn't care what people thought and I'm sure you don't care either :smirk: People usually stare because they see something they like that is unique/different or just simply something that stands out and your hair is abundantly beautiful. So embrace it. I feel you when you said that you wear it in a bun because you feel that it gets too much attention from people around you. I do think that depending on your work environment just so people will pay more attention to you instead of your hair or if people want to come up and touch it and things like that I don't blame you for wanting to keep it pulled back but at the same time be proud of your big beautiful hair because alot of people wish they had hair like yours. Didn't mean to be so wordy but I can relate because I have done the same when my hair was longer and I cut it and it is just big period so there is no way to get away from that.

LOL! Modelchick I would stare at you too because I think you're very pretty and I would be checking out your hair. I might even slide up to you and ask you how you do it.
On the same tip I REALLY relate here. My hair has always been very big even when short and when it's long it's just enormous. I wear my hair up 90% of the time just because I'm a low key person. As much as I loved my wedding I hated being in the spotlight. My sister was just relating to me a time in church when I was playing (I'm the pianist) and I turned my head and she said it was like this huge waterfall flowing out and around me. She said she gaped for a few seconds. Her hair is the same length as mine but not as big. I'm trying to get over being so selfconscious but having men whistle to me out of cars and across streets is just not my bag. Not my husband's either

Oh yeah and sometimes people (like coworkers) like to stick their hands in it so that really got me wearing it up!

MC,

I wouldn't worry about the stares - I'm sure it's all because they are so floored by how great your hair looks. Totally, OT but I've been meaning to ask since you have a lot of hair, and you wash every day, do you wash in sections or not? If not, how do you combat tangling?
