I used to be on the rollerset kick but now I am trying out the braidouts. I see advantages to both- one can rollerset and not have to touch your hair for days. Or one could airdry and do a braidout and moisturize your hair daily- but is may have to be redone every night. Which do you think is better?

For me (I'm natural), its rollersets. Braidouts cause me a lot of stress and nervous breakdowns from the tangling of my hair.

I think rollersetting because there's less daily manipulation. Braidouts I have to redo every day and my hair gets tangled in the process.

I love both...but I'd have to say braid outs are better for me. Only because they're so quick, easy, and I don't have to re-braid. When I roller set I wear my hair down and since I'll be rocking updo's for a while braid outs look better.

Although I do braidouts almost daily, I vote rollersets because of the issues I'm having lately with tangles and knots. Not to mention the SSKs I get no matter what I do.

When I rollerset my hair is nice and soft and tangle free until wash day.

When I do a braid out, my hair dries out quicker and it gets tangled.

I'll have to go with rollersets, although I love the results of both.

Roller setting wins for me. Braidouts cause too much stress on my hair. Even when I put small rollers on the ends, I still have a little hair trauma. Plus, my braidouts don't look good at day 2.

I have always done the braid out since going natural. when ever i try to curl my hair it only lasts a few hours and quickly frizzes out into a poof ball from the humidity. I still haven't found a product that would hold my curls better

Im transitioning and I found that rollersets are too much manipulation on my fine hair. I prefer Twist outs mine last 2 sometimes 3 days without having to be touched. Then all I do is moisturize small sections and the re twist. I can go a whole week without combing my hair! I love it!

For me its braidouts. I always get broken hairs when I do rollersets. Not to mention the fact that my hair is so fine that it doesn't hold curl for longer than 45 minutes (truth be told its more like 30 min).

The only thing I've noticed with braidouts is that my shed hairs don't fall as easily as when my hair is straight. I just do what I can to minimize any potential tangling.

don't know about which one is healthier, but rollersets are easier for me and I like the results better , I also experience some tangling with braidouts.

i would think braidouts/ twistouts/bantuknots you don't have to pull your hair taut to go smoothly around the rollers unless its to do a curly textured look as oppsed to straight. mine last a week and i moisturize daily so i don't get tangled or have issues with single strand knots.

I like both, but braidouts cause my hair to tangle and only last a few days, whereas my hair comes out smooth and tangle-free after a rollerset and it can last as long as I want it to. It also seems like my ends get dry from braidouts.

On the other hand, I use a hood dryer to dry my rollersets, and sometimes follow with direct heat to straighten my roots, whereas a braidout is air-dried.

Overall, my vote goes to rollersets.

I switch back and forth between the two based on how I'm feeling. With braidaouts you have to be gentle if you tend to tangle easily. Other than that I think they are both beneficial when done correctly.

I'm going to say rollersets since i can't do a decent braidout to save my life. Mine never come out right.

This is a tough one. They both are beneficial to the hair if done correctly. When I'm deep in a relaxer stretch those rollersets are much harder for me to do....all the manipulation, using the fine tooth comb, etc.

So I'd say when I'm 1-8 weeks post relaxer: rollersetting, and when I'm 9 weeks+ I begin to do braidouts a bit more. Especially in the summertime, I can't stand to rollerset in the summer.

I can't really say, since I'm too feeble to rollerset. I can't rollerset to save my life :cry3: but my braidouts look really cute. The problem I have is finding a way to put my hair up at night which will compact it down enough to fit in a sleep bonnet. The stupid thing always comes off if my hair is too big. (the rarely mentioned downside of big hair!)

Rollersets!

I say roller ets because pre hair boards rollersets and low/no direct heat it got me to WL.

Post hair boards I'm now on my way to HL using roller sets. I've tried the baggy method, W&G, braidouts ( my 3c texlaxed/relaxed hair no likey, dried and broke my ends off ),
twistouts... but I keep coming back to rollersets because:

1. I just take out rollers and go in the morning

2. My ends stay smooth moisturized and protected.

3. It lasts and entire (week sometimes longer depending on activity level and weather).

4. Cuts down dramatically on manipulation ( so SSKs, splits, breakage are almost nonexistent ):yep:

5. I'm used to rollersetting.

6. Due to the fact that my hair is usually curled at the ends ( and stays that way ) they are protected IMHO even though I wear my hair out lots. The only time I really 'PS' is if I'm home and it's ( hair) in a way of a task.

^^^What she said totally!

Rollersetting all the way and I'm hardcore, because I will rollerset right through the year regardless of weather!

I chose roller setting. Braidsouts are great b/c of the low manipulation but then I have more trouble detangling, which causes breakage for me.

I'm still trying to get roller setting down, but I'm moving more into braidout/twistout territory. Rollersetting is too much combing and smoothing, getting the tension right, time consuming. I workout and co-wash 3 or more times per week and taking all that time just isn't worth it for me. I like the look, but I'm kind of over it.

I thought I found something easier with flexirods but they don't dry... even under a dryer for me. THAT would've been ideal. So today I'm going to start wet flat twisting and see how that goes.

Either way, it's all better than blow drying and/or flat ironing.

I was surprised that rollersetting beat out braidouts as being healthier. Well anyway, I am going through a braid out phase mainly due to lazines and not really having the time to do a decent rollerset.

Braid outs is better for me because I can moisturize daily, which I love to do, and I exercise and co-wash 4-5 days per week. Rollersetting is too much of a hastle to be done more than twice per week.
