Both options are evil, but if you had to pick, which do you think is more detrimental - a bad trim or a bad touch-up? I self-relaxed and it ... didn't go well. No breakage, but underprocessed like a mutha (I used Phyto Index II) and just dry as a bone. I went to the beauty supply to get some conditioner and talked to a lady there who is a retired beautician. I told her what happened. She looked at my hair and said that she could see the underprocessing, but if I condition well and am gentle, I'll be all right. She said that getting a bad cut is the worst thing in the world for someone who wants lengthy, healthy hair because no amount of conditioner can make your hair grow back to where it was.
I feel a little better, but I still think that a bad relaxer is worse. If you get scalp burns or something, it can mess you up for good. Anybody agree with me? Also, for those for whom Phyto did nada, can you rec a good relaxer? The woman I talked to said she loved Optimum Care, but I used that once and it was hot garbage. I wish I could get my hands on some Elucence. My old hairstylist used that, and it was great!
