Being Natural Is Not That Serious...

I agree 300% with her, it ain't that serious.

I mean how do people really sound "I am more black than you?" Child boo. But,are you in debt? Do you have STDs? Do have strong morals and values? I mean what's really important.:perplexed

I am natural and I could care less about the rest, I think some relaxed heads need to get off their high horse too with all the "OMGosh she has thin ends!" Please, it is just hair, don't stop the press.

I think all of it is a bunch of pride and haughteness, pride comes before the fall ya'll.:yep:

Shucks people do charge a lot for some natural products, I mean really I am not about to pay $100 for some hair care products, I don't care what they do. Castor oil, veggie glyc, water, garnier and my Giovani do the trick for about $20. Shiiiidd

But this just my opinion. Do you and let others do them. The end.
OMG you must have read my mind. i dont understand why pple be so caught up in what others do for and to themselves as if its harming the rest of us. i have been relaxed for at least 15 years and i just found out like 4 months ago what my true texture is:rolleyes:. i am transitioning for myself and in no way does that make me less than a full head of natural hair or better than a full head of relaxed hair. pple need to step back and push forward.

Yea, that pretty much summed up how I feel too.

I could say having long hair ain't that serious either, but clearly it is, since there are sites devoted to it.

Your hair is as serious to you as you want it to be. I'm sick of people telling me it's not that serious. My natural hair is serious TO ME. When my hair was long and relaxed, that was serious TO ME. When I hit MBL, that was serious TO ME, just like when I big chopped, that was serious TO ME.

As long as I'm not at your house telling you what to do with your hair, there is no need to make videos about this mess.

Whatever. I didn't even watch it.:look::lachen:

LOL, the picture in the video background makes me laugh...

LOL!!! "white chemical devil -ish"

There is nothing wrong with it being serious to certain individuals. Hell, I am SERIOUS about my hair. But, to impose your views on other people...again it is not that serious! DO U. If is is serious to you, let it be serious to only you!:ohwell:

The reason Natural-ness can become Naturalism is because of the NEGATIVE REACTION OF MAINSTREAM SOCIETY.

Let's not totally dismiss the fact that many of us have had HELLLACIOUS things happen to us because our hair isn't straight.

I'm one of those folks. I took bullets from people on the street to my own family for NOT RELAXING.

What other ethinic group (and I mean by and large, we can all find exceptions, but if you can list exceptions the rule still exists) goes through such foolishness?

Why did I have to deal with looks of disgust, horror, and amusement?

Isn't it NOT that serious?

Why did I have to be utterly wounded when family tell me, more or less, I was suddenly less attractive and had done something wrong. Not because they are mean -BUT BECAUSE THEY CARED.

They were trying to save me from the negativity they knew I'd face!!

It made me ashamed for cutting off my 14" of silky hair. I almost regretted wanting to be natural and still struggle with it when errants comments are made by kin.

I didn't think it was that serious...or I wouldn't have cut it off. The hair wasn't serious, the mental change I made was.

I STILL LOVE LONG HAIR.

I will have long hair.

Just natural this time, is all.

However, for the rest of the world I STILL HAVE TO LIVE IN, it often is "that serious". Not always, but more than it should be.

SO...does being natural make you more "Black" or better? I think we can all say a hardy: Goodness, no!

But PLEASE don't discount the reasons why "that other site" exists.

Hostility to our hair type, which is unique to people of African descent and once used as SCIENTIFIC PROOF of our being more like animals than humans, is still rampant.

I don't want to squash the pain of those who've had horrible experiences because they let their hair be the way it means for their DNA to be.

Are they stronger for it? I think so.

I know I am.

Am I better than anyone else for? Puh-lease!!! Not by a long shot.

We musn't don't belittle those who have had negative experiences by saying "It just ain't that serious".

I'm not saying you wonderful ladies are, or this thread is doing that...but people interpret things many ways and those who have had negative experiences can see videos like hers as belittling and demeaning.

Listen to this fool!! can't belive I wasted 7 mins of my life listening to this crap

buah hahahahaha! i only spent a few secs! someone posted this idiot a couple of weeks ago talking about black woman wanting their hair white...plz " I DECIDED TO DELETE WHAT WAS NOT CHRISTIAN-LIKE!

ita with you littlegolden lamb:
+ my $.02
i was kinda agreeing w/ her until after her hot flash segement, she was saying our hair was not that big of a deal. i wonder what all she does to her hair on a daily? what's her reggie, how long has she been a twa or ta? i don't think she's a lable reader. i'm quite sure she's done this, tried a product one day and said, "this doesn't work on my hair". My advice to her is "Don't buy a product if you can't afford it" Um, is it me or are there any ladies on here that like 'natural products' on their hair and can find them on a low budget. i mean u don't have to buy up the whole store, bss, or internet to buy natural. jmo, but hey to each their own.

Love your post, every single syllable!!!

Yea i'm a choir member..............ITA all the way!!! :yep:

I agree, natural hair isn't that serious. I was natural for nearly a decade when it wasn't the popular thing to do (I am texlaxed now) and it wasn't that serious then. I know it's no big of a deal now. People need to get over themselves.

I agree with it many of her points as well. I don't frequent that site that she is referring to b/c it's almost like a cult over there. Gotta go there in moderation. Like...if you type the word "relaxer" in a thread, it automatically changes the word to "chemical fire cream" or some crap like that. It's NOT THAT SERIOUS. I'm relaxed but definitely not into it like that. I contemplate using heat all the time, and I use it! I think about relaxing too, don't have the guts to do it though. I'd miss my little coils so much!
Girl, you took those words right out of my Mouth. I got blasted on my very first thread over there, all that b/c I mentioned heat protector:gotroasted:. I don't get it. I too do not frequent those ends!!!!!!!!!!!!:nono::nono::nono:. A lot of ladies have left from there b/c of that. ANYWHOOO............

I just added her to one of my faves...Two of my sisters have perms their choice my sister whom has locs is no more afrocentered than the other two. As for me I think i look cute with my hair and my hair has thrived more when it is natural. that's all

ITA . . . let's get real. As much money, time and effort we put into working with our hair it is that serious. I didn't watch it either.

Personally I don't take her video as meaning natural hair is not serious to the individual that has it. I take it as meaning it's not so serious that you have to hate and look down on people that have relaxers or straighten their hair. I think that is wrong. I have natural hair and in no way is it serious enough for me to look down on someone.....but mynatural hair is very serious to me......if that makes sense. I don't care what anyone else does to their hair and I will never judge anyone for it.

Funny, thats what i got out of that also.:look:

Huh? What does this mean? :perplexed

I'm not addressing you personally.but some of the same natural-head mazis still have issues with colorism... so how does that make them any better than those who relax? Hair cannot change your mindset is basically what I mean. Just because you're all natural with your hair doesn't mean you've cleared the toxins out your brain. Ignorant thoughts can happen to annnnyone.:lachen::lachen::lachen:

SrgtWillie makes ignorant videos about black women to purposefully get a rise out of us. He wants black women to feel bad about themselves because he cannot get attention from black women. Do not feed into the okie doke.

i refuse to watch them and give them the attention they crave...sorry...but it seems like from what you guys are saying that there is some discussion about it being too expensive to be natural. like someone else said, water, glycerin, and castor oil can all be bought for less than 10 bucks. i use the "expensive" products but i only buy them when they are on sale or if i happen to STUMBLE across a good deal...i would have never tried miss jessie's if someone in the exchange board hadn't sold me an almost full jar for $5. just because we are natural doesn't mean we have (all) lost our common sense.

as for the high horse-type stuff, yes i DO notice other people's hair more, but no i do NOT make them feel bad for their decisions. my cousin and my best friend's sister are two people i would love to refer to LHCF, but it's not my job to testify to them, especially when i feel my hair is not where i want it to be. we are not all trying to be captain-save-a-ho up in here.

Not exactly....the girl in the video is natural. She just dosen't believe in having to pay that much for certain natural products.......like $30 for 2oz. of product as she says.

... I am totally against the mentality that those who do not choose to embrace their natural hair are sell-outs or conformists. That line of thinking doesn't work for me.
ITA!!

That whole line of thinking sounds like white supremacy to me. Only it would be called napprememacy.

This was posted on NP a few months back and she disabled her comments because the nappy posse was on the case. I swear when these vids get posted on hairboards, it is ON!
Good lawd! I can only imagine. :nono: I am sure the ghetto birds were seen flying over her house that day.

Wow. Just wow. So much for keeping people down with the cause. I quit going over there too. I am even subscribed but its just too much for me. I gave it all I could but the vibe just rubs me the wrong way most of the time. I will say though, that not everybody is like that though. I know of a few that are really nice. One lady belongs here too that I like and I admire her hair alllll the time!!! I wonder if she knows who she is. (LB)

Ditto. They scared me out of transitioning. Plus, people really don't even answer your questions and Inot a lot of them have long hair. In fact, I think thats what they were saying was the problem with LHCF, our vane obsession with long hair. So... bc you have kinky hair it means it has to always be a TWA? C'mooooon....:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::nono: Kinky hair can do annnnything anybody else's hair can do. Besides, its not that difficult to elongate highly textured curls. You take good care of it with moisture and you'd be SUPRISED what nappy hair can do.

I say to each her own, my daughter is natural and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I just don't understand how one is "conforming" b/c they choose to relax. This is what the young lady in the it is serious video said.
