Being Natural Is Not That Serious...

I saw this a while back, and I agree with some points she made, but not all:ohwell:

Some people go natural and assume that it somehow makes them better than those who relax...hair is just hair. I'm happy that mine is relaxer free, but other than that, I'm not trying to make any bold statement. I went natural for me and no one else. Aside from knowing how to better care for my hair, I'm still the same KP I was in my relaxed days:grin:. So, I'm not mad at her.

I couldn't really hear her. But I totally agree with her on the product thing. That expensive so called better product turns my hair into *BLEEP*. Then I learned that build up is just the fillers they put in it that your hair can't absorb. So I didn't sweat it. But from what I could hear she made some good points. Hair is just hair to me. How you wear yours has nothing to do with how I wear mine. And how I wear mine has nothing to do with other people's opinions.

I agree with her! Some people think the more natural you are the more you love yourself. Just do whatever makes you happy!

Thanks for sharing.

There were valid points made in all the videos and I agree with most of them made.

The one with the guy talking about Omarion sliding across the floor was kinda funny to me.

He makes some valid points; but it's all in the delivery.
I can do without the profanity and the anger.
And I may not agree with all of his commentary, but I respect his right to voice it.
And he hides behind pictures because he is aware that 82% of all AA women use chemicals to permanently straighten their hair, and he don't won't no beat down... cause that's a lot of sistas' to be pissing off.

she does make some good points, some people with natural hair think they are better than relaxed heads, but it shouldnt be that way, but I guess its all hyped and being confident to rock natural hair which makes them feel that way, its a good video

Hearing that guy just made me so angry! He just kept making the point that we should all have dreads because that's how God intended for it. WTH? He doesn't even sound educated enough about hair to be taking such a strong stance. smh. I don't appreciate ppl pushing their views on others like that. It you want to perm, texlax, stay natural whateva, it should be your own choice. He's talking about relaxers are conforming to the norm and ppl relax because of corporate pressure ect. Then he turns around and he is doing the same thing, pressuring others to stay natural because somehow, it's better. It's not right.

Wow...I just got rapidly sucked into a YouTube Trail.:perplexed
I looked at that first video.
Yes, she makes some very valid points. I think we all know the website she is referring to. It's a great site. Excellent for Natural women who don't want to press or chemically alter their hair. They do not intend to promote the straight hair look regardless of how it is accomplished. Not everyone's cup of tea.

Then I had to look at the rebuttal I didn't enjoy that vid as much. But she also had some valid points.

But that Angry Dude from the UK. He totally sucked me in. I ended up watching some of his other stuff. He's very disturbing and he sounds young-minded. With very poorly researched opinions (most of which are about American Black Women):wallbash:. I had to get out of there.

I think that natural hair is as serious as you want it to be for yourself.:yep: The degree of severity that you apply is strictly up to you.
However, I am totally against the mentality that those who do not choose to embrace their natural hair are sell-outs or conformists. That line of thinking doesn't work for me.

I totally a agree with her video. It's true, except I don't agree with being a natural takes too much money. You just got to know which products to use. I mean maybe that's why my hair was only shoulder length when I was natural, but I used the same products that relaxed hair used, except i had more moisturizers in my hair. But I seriously don't think relaxed heads should be perceived as a black sheep or whatever. Hair is hair. You just do you, cuz Ima do me. I like relaxed hair, so no matter who is doing it, at the end of the day I will be relaxed and chillaxed

LOL! I just started a thread about some dude who decided I was self hating for relaxing my hair. :lachen:

Its just hair not a whole identity. I just dont get why the pro natural movement is so hostile sometimes. :ohwell:

This is what I don't get, how do we actually know that we didn't start out with longer loose hair? I know that it sounds silly and I may be wording it wrong, but I notice too many people assume that we're supposed to have dreads, or our hair is supposed to be in cornrows, or our hair is supposed to be in braids, or our hair is supposed to be in an afro. All of these assumptions are made, but wouldn't it make sense that these styles were only there because the person decided that they wanted their hair that way? Couldn't it easily just have been a fashion trend as it is today? Just a thought...

I think those are all just styles myself. But there are so many people that believe that is the way our hair is supposed to be.

This reminds me of the LHCFer who's husband had to school his boy who was trying to down her because she relaxes her hair. Nevermind that her (LCHFer) hair is longer, thicker and healthier than his AND his GFs hair. That IMHO is just madness.

Learn what works for you first before trying to tell someone else what they should do. :ohwell: Especially if what you're doing isnt working.

I remember that thread. I was happy that her husband knew so much and actually paid attention to her hair growth progress. Her husband's friend was talking about how he wanted her to cut her relaxed hair, and now it's healthy and she has good hair because of it. He was saying the same thing about his dreads:ohwell:

LOL! Good hair always kills me. WTF is that? I think thats code for "hair you take care of" now.

I agree 300% with her, it ain't that serious.

I mean how do people really sound "I am more black than you?" Child boo. But,are you in debt? Do you have STDs? Do have strong morals and values? I mean what's really important.:perplexed

I am natural and I could care less about the rest, I think some relaxed heads need to get off their high horse too with all the "OMGosh she has thin ends!" Please, it is just hair, don't stop the press.

I think all of it is a bunch of pride and haughteness, pride comes before the fall ya'll.:yep:

Shucks people do charge a lot for some natural products, I mean really I am not about to pay $100 for some hair care products, I don't care what they do. Castor oil, veggie glyc, water, garnier and my Giovani do the trick for about $20. Shiiiidd

But this just my opinion. Do you and let others do them. The end.

The same goes for "OMMAGOD, she ain't got no hair, she must be miserable." While most people want healthy hair, some just don't have the means to attain it. Or they just are too bust in life with other things, to care. I dunno, what is important to us, isn't important to another.:ohwell:

I agree with it many of her points as well. I don't frequent that site that she is referring to b/c it's almost like a cult over there. Gotta go there in moderation. Like...if you type the word "relaxer" in a thread, it automatically changes the word to "chemical fire cream" or some crap like that. It's NOT THAT SERIOUS. I'm relaxed but definitely not into it like that. I contemplate using heat all the time, and I use it! I think about relaxing too, don't have the guts to do it though. I'd miss my little coils so much!

Hehehe. He knows a bit about black women and hair. I'll bet he ain't saying that to nobody in person.

OMG! This dude is pure comedy.

Omarion gliding across the floor with braids down his back because he is working with blue magic and vaseline. :lachen:The pain receptors on your head screaming, "OMG! What are you doing to me?" :lachen: Oh, and when Beyonce takes off her weave her hair is like *snap* :lachen: The snap side effect is priceless. He is a nutjob! Gotta luv youtube.

To the initial girl: meh. if it wasn't that serious she wouldn't be making a video. This was posted on NP a few months back and she disabled her comments because the nappy posse was on the case. I swear when these vids get posted on hairboards, it is ON!

I agree with her! Some people think the more natural you are the more you love yourself. Just do whatever makes you happy!

Okay!:lachen::lachen::lachen:

You taking drugs when you get sick... how natural is that?
You're putting hair products in your head so how natural is that?
You let doctors probe you with inorganic tools... how natural is that?
You got your hair did, toes done, makeup on... how natural is that?
You still checking ears and toebeds to see if folks are really lightskinned... how natural is that?

How natural is anything nowadays?:perplexed

folks be taking this mess too far.
Like they are blessed by jebus cuz they don't have extensions, or relaxers in their head.

People who feel this way are often times those who want a reason to feel superior to others.

i think the girl from the response video natural hair IS that seriouse is very defensive. she said that when you have relaxed hair you are conforming to a standard of beauty. thats not always true considering most of us were relaxed when we were very young against our will and we just continued to relax because thats all we knew. just recently have there been a big out pour of natural heads. there weren't that many just a few years ago so what does that say. and she never said whether or not shes been natural her whole life. to me she basically proved the first girl right because it seemed like she did think she was a little better because she chose not to "conform" like the relaxed hair women did.
