Because of long hair care forum....

What are some everyday things that you never did prior to joining LHCF? I know that I do some odd things that I try not to mention outside of this forum because people usually give me the side eye....

1. I only wash with conditioner. I shampoo about once every four months.
2. I no longer pay attention to women with hair weaves. I can only get my 'porn' fix from women with their real hair. Natural or permed.
3. I am constantly making up regimens in my head for people when I am sitting in class, waiting in line, etc.
4. Whenever someone irritates me I make subtle comments to myself about the condition of their hair. Ex: "Yeah okay she thinks she's all that.. What she needa do is go deep condition that mess."
5. I eat at least one egg a day.
6. I keep my heater on high year round.
7. I pop four fish oil pills a day.
8. I work out four times a week.
9. I drink lots of water (even though I HATE it)
10. 50% of my conversations end up being about hair... SOMEHOW
11. Since weaves are my protective style, whenever I see a healthy relaxed head of hair I'm always comparing their length and thickness to mine and I live vicariously through their hair since mine is protective styled and tucked away.
12. I have zero tolerance for incorrect and unsolicited hair advice.

I was just thinking about my conditioner addiction since I joined this hair board.

1. I buy at least one new conditioner every other week.
2. I prepoo before every wash.
3. I my oils in my hair constantly.
4. I never used a leave-in conditioner before I found this board.
5. I take vitamins constantly.
6. I never sleep without a scarf.
7. I make every effort not to purchase anything from the Asian owned BSS.
8. I have a container under my bed full of hair supplies.
9. I just purchased 2 conditioners and a bottle of KCKT from stockngo.com which a member started a thread about because the prices are so low.
10. I never purchased products online before I found this site.

I listed all that to say I LOVE YOU LADIES!!

Because of LHCF...

1. I used indian hair care practices for a good portion of my hair journey including Amla oil, shikaki oil, and henna
2. I put water on my scalp at least every 4 days
3. I dont use heat to style my hair regularly
4. I shampoo once a week instead of once every goodness knows when
5. I actually use conditioner
6. I airdry
7. I relax leaving texture in my hair

I agree with the bolded! lol!

  • I seal with oil after I moisturize
  • Carry a small bottle of oil and moisturizer in my pursue and shamelessly apply while at the office during the day.
  • Keep clips and pins in my car, desk, coat pockets, pursue in case I need to put my hair up - it's up 90% of the time but for the off chance I'm wearing it down.
  • Daily vitamins.
  • I look at a woman's ends first when checking out her length. If they're thin and damaged, :nono: I deduct major points and her length means nothing to me, and plan out a regimen for her in my head or what she could do. If they're healthy, I try and list what she's doing right in my head and give her silent props haha

I just discovered your blog! Love it!!!!!!!!!!

When I wear my hair down I am constantly thinking about it rubbing up against my clothes and can actually *hear* individual strands popping and put it up right away

I read ingredients on hair products before buying like someone on a diet at the grocery store

Because of LHCF I...

1. Have, essentially become a hair snob. :look: This means that any hair, (natural or relaxed) no matter how long it is, is completely unimpressive to me unless the edges are full and healthy looking, the ends are not sparse, and its lush and full! :lick:

2. WILL NOT get into bed without satin on my head.

3. Realize that when I see innocent little girls with jacked up, permed, eaten off f**cked up looking hair, it's not simply because the child's hair can't grow. It's because their mama's not keeping it moisturized, sealed and protected at night. :nono:

4. Am embarrassed for women who go out in public wearing bad weaves/wigs.

5. Find myself diagnosing problems other women have with their hair and, (in my mind) putting together regimens to help them fix it.

6. Find myself greatly disappointed by the heads most of the black women I see IRL. :ohwell:

I've become spoiled ladies!

ETA: I forgot to mention that because of LHCF I am addicted to CFCG!! Never would have thought to use it otherwise, and that stuff is the bomb.com! :yep:

Because of LHCF...
1. I moisturize and seal my hair DAILY!

2. I only use shampoo 2x a month and co wash about 2x a week. Before I would have never dreamed of getting my hair wet 2x a week.

3. I Learned that it is ok to not have bone straight hair after relaxers and actually now prefer that way:grin: #TeamTexlax!

4. I spend waaaay more on hair products than before. :nono:

5. I stopped going to stylists and learned to DIY

6. I look at the ingredients and actually know what Im reading.

7. Whenever I see people with dry, chewed up,broken hair with no edges, I think if only they knew about LHCF and start building a regimen

8. I shop outside of the "ethnic/black/african american/relaxed-natural/" aisles

9. I learned that you cant 'wash' a relaxer out of your hair :hammer:

10. I learned that there is no such thing as hair "not growing", all hair grows, you have to retain that growth.

11. Shoulder length is no longer long hair to me. If your not at least BSL, im not impressed

Because of LHCF

I look at veggies and fruits and try to figure out a deep conditioner I can whip up.

Sent from my iPhone using LHCF ~I love this app!

Where do I begin with this one? Because of the LHCF, I have learned and continuously learned so much.

Because of the LHCF:

1. I know what to do with my hair after it's been shampooed and conditioned

2. I have learned the difference between growth and retention

3. I have learned that you're supposed to cut your hair with shears and not just random scissors around the house

4. I learned that their are different types of hair products and styling tools

5. I learned the difference between carrier and essential oils

6. I learned about ceramides

7. I learned that Whole Foods, the Vitamin Shoppe, and Trader Joe's sell hair products

8. I learned how to detangle (that was major for me)

9. I learned about washing my hair in sections

10. I have more hair products than I have ever had in my life

11. I learned about different hairstyles (please note that this is very different from "I learned how to do different hairstyles." I am severely style-challenged, but it works for me.)

12. I learned of YouTube

13. I learned that less is more when it comes to applying products

14. I learned how to understand my hair's love language and act accordingly

15. I learned about Sally's Beauty Supply

16. I learned about porosity

17. I learned about online vendors

18. I learned that greasing the hair is not the same as moisturizing the hair

19. I learned what "protective styling" and "low manipulation" mean

20. I discovered how much I love oils

21. I discovered how much I love hair

Because of LHCF:

1. Water hits my head most days of the week

2. I have not had braids or a weave in nearly a year (an impossible feat a year ago!)

3. My hair is currently the longest and healthiest it's ever been!

4. My oldest DD, who has the thickest, densest head of type 4 hair that you have ever seen, which folks have been pressuring me to "texturize" to make it more "manageable" since she was a toddler, is a PROUD pre-teen natural who loves her kinky hair just the way it is :)

Thank you ladies!!

i love me some you lady!

Because of this site:
1. I cowash usually 1x a week
2. I avoid sulfates in my shampoo
3. I airdry as much as possible
4. I moisturize and seal my ends with oil
5. My hair has grown to bra strap length
6. I bun more frequently( gotta get back to it)
7. I wear a satin scarf every night
8. I stretch my relaxers to at least 12 weeks.
9. I stopped wearing braids, weaves, phonytails.
10. I feel more beautiful and confident! :yay:
11. I am inspired by the beautiful, intelligent and caring women who are on this board :yep:

I dc and cowash
I moisturize with a moisturizer instead of grease or a serum
I barely use my flat iron
I almost always sleep with a satin scarf or on a sating pillowcase
I am a DIYer, I can twist and cornrow (still room for improvement, though) and I love styling.
I wear wigs (and half-wigs)
I talk about hair with friends, family and strangers at the local burger joint :local:
I get disappointed when I'm "deceived" by realistic-looking weaves. Not because I'm anti-weave or unappreciative of a good weave but because I get excited when I see a nice head of bsl+ hair - I'm always receptive to real-life inspiration and love an opportunity to give a compliment and because...
I'm always wondering if a woman with a particularly impressive head of healthy hair is a Nikko's cousin
I'm especially impressed by full, even napes and thick ends because I know these are often a sign of good hair care practices
I'm more self-conscious about the state of my own hair - density/thickness, health, ends, etc
I'm envious of those with coarse strands :look:

I am learning more about proper hair practices
I am natural for now, but when I relax, I no longer relax my whole head every 4 weeks!
I am a former PJ- I finally found the right stuff!
People ask ME for hair advice (even though my hair is really short):lachen:
People ask ME how does my hair grow back fast after my multiple BCS :lachen:

1. I cowash
2. I check the ingredients of hair products before using
3. When I see certain women who appear to have damaged hair, I have to fight the urge to give her a few tips. :look:

- During my commute I think about how I can tweak my regimen and which products I'm going to try next.
- When I get a shed hair I so a strand test (snap it in half to determine whether i need moisture or protein)
- Before LHCF I never knew what I split end was, now I'm always checking my ends
- Fantasize about being at goal length and what styles I'm gonna try
- Over-evaluating people's hair and thinking about what they should use to fix their thinning edges, damaged ends
- I talk about hair every chance I get :giggle:
- When I'm in Sally's or a really big BSS I feel a sense of euphoria
- My hair is a snob and always wants to smell nice
- I actually look at ingredients and know what they mean and how they will probably affect my hair :yep:

1. I cowash
2. I use sulfate free poo
3. I use heat protectant when I blow dry and flat iron
4. I wear wigs
5. I only use grease on my ends
6. I don't oil my scalp
7. I know about the moisture/protein balance
8. I went natural
9. I seal my hair after I moisturize

Because of LHCF;

I have all types of conditioners in the bathroom
my husband clarifies his hair and skin with poo, and is now using dudu-oson for his face
i've mixed my own natural hair/skin products...which are edible (but I wouldn't eat them)
have more hair tools than I can count
I am proud to have a hair shelf in the closet
I am super duper proud that my sister and niece listen to me. My niece now uses emu oil on her skin for eczema, and is taking better care of her hair.
I am transitioning to natural
I've taken the advice and prayers of the ladies in the TTC forum and have applied it to my life as well.
I've been caught ogling gorgeous hair.
My DH makes sure that I sleep or lay down with a scarf on my head
I'm more open-minded about new techniques and hair products to try.
I've got DE which serves a multitude of uses
I've met wonderful people locally
I've saved lots of money on products and hair services.

I don't know why.... But I just think that is so sweet. I made the ultimate "awwwwww" face when I read that!

Thanks to LHCF:

1. I am transitioning to natural.

2. I wash my hair only with conditioner.

3. I deep condition once a week (not every two weeks like I used to as a relaxed head)

4. I am willing to pay more than $10 + shipping for a good hair moisturizer and other styling aids.

5. I sleep nightly with a satin bonnet, instead of when I had a fresh hairstyle from the salon.

6. I am 99% reliant on DIY hair care.

7. Buns have become my best friend.

8. I use a ticker for something other than pregnancy.

9. I only air dry my hair now.

10. I have learned patience via detangling and hair health (seriously, I was one of those chicks who only washed her hair at the salon because I hated to detangle my hair! Ugh!)

11. I actually visit Sally's Beauty (which I thought was for stylists only).

Because of LHCF:

I am using Henna
instead of having 2 shelfs of hair products I have 8 :giggle:
I meant some amazing women
I have a place to come and talk hair without feeling part crazy
Stopped using Black Gel or any gel really
Wash weekly instead of every two weeks
Brought a Steamer :lick:
Tried and loved Wen - :lick:

Became a much broker Woman LOL :lachen: :lachen:

Because of LHCF, I went from being EXTREMELY stylist dependent to washing, styling, relaxing, coloring, and trimming my OWN hair! I don't need a stylist for anything!

- Mostly use LHCF recommended products
- Read everything on the back of a bottle including the introduction, directions, and ingredients. I pay special attention to the placement of ingredients as well
- I'm a PJ
- I fantasize often about being WL and beyond
- I feel special that my hair has reached BSL
- Thinking about adding co-washing as a permanent part of my regimen
- I don't use heat anymore and I don't know when I will again
- I'm obsessed about trimming
- I constantly re-format my regimen to make it more simplistic while still beneficial
- Always playing in my hair now when I could barely leave it down before
