Be Honest - How many of you use curling irons??

Just curious. I completely understand that heat damages the hair, but I have to admit there have been a couple of times, namely Saturday that I wanted to whip out my jumbo curling iron, but didn't, I didn't want to let the board down and myself of course, so spill it. Do you? EVER??

I've used mine twice since September. Curling irons are not good for my hair, my hair is fine and curling irons make my hair look really flat.

I used mine yesterday after blow drying to get my hair straight. Other then that haven't used since January 03??? I have also used a pressing comb on occasion(sp)? Hair always feels hard afterwards. I prefer a wet set.

I use mine 3x a week until I can grow my hair long enough for a protective style, but I've found that as long as I can keep my hair moisturized, the less dependent I am on my flat iron. My curls keep much longer when my hair is in good condition. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

does a flat iron count? i don't use the curling iron anymore. i hardly ever use the flat iron either, but when i do, i don't feel guilty about it. it's my hair, and there are things i can do to pamper it afterwards.

bottom line: sometimes i just wanna be extra cute,

and why have long hair if i'm NEVER gonna show it off?? i say enjoy it, but don't go overboard... at least until you reach your goal... /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Since Jan 01 of this year I can say I've used mine about 3 times. Sometimes I just want it to be a little straighter and the curling iron is what works for me.

Not since September of last year. I have a ceramic flat iron though that I use once a month. I'm too focused on my goal to do more than that.

I beat the temptation to use my curling iron this afternoon. I am however guilty of great heat usage last night with my h./dryer (time and laziness)
Peace

Re: Be Honest - How many of you use curling irons?

I have a ceramic curling iron. I have not used it yet this year, but I plan on using it some time this summer. Remember though, a curling iron is far less damaging than a blow dryer. You see you can get the job done with the curling iron in a matter of seconds on each piece of hair. A good heat protectant on it before hand should also help to keep the hair in good condition if a curling iron is used. A silicone based product would work well in protecting the hair /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I haven't used one since I got my Caruso curlers in Dec. Yayyy Caruso... they're the best. I can keep a bend in my hair for 4 days or so without recurling /images/graemlins/smile.gif

all flat irons are not created equal. i think the ceramic ones are way less damaging than regular flat irons. i think regular flat irons are about as bad as regular curling irons. that's just my theory though. /images/graemlins/smile.gif not that it matters because i think they're all worse than roller setting... lol!

I don't ...I don't even know where it is....My hair is curly enough on it's on....I'm trying to get rid of some of the curls! I did flat iron last week when I was pressed for time and I wanted to get rid of some of the curl....

does that count?

Re: Be Honest - How many of you use curling irons?

Well,I have not used my iron in about 3 years. But I did try to use it over the Christmas holidays. I was having a problem trying to hold it right and it slipped out of my hand and hit my toe. I guess this gave me 2 lessons:1-wear my slippers and 2-leave the iron alone! I was left with 1 curl and a blistered toe! Needless to say I put the iron away. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Girl I am loving your 'smiley'..it is so cute!!

I guess I'm the odd ball here. I'm using a curling iron alot more often than anyone who's responded to this post. Maybe once or twice a week. So far no split ends and I've been doing this since 12/02..... I don't turn the heat up super duper high and I make sure I use some type of protectant.

No comment about the post but oh my goodness @ the cute nubian angels in your avatar!

I'm getting sooo broody, you know I won't be able to read any of your posts from now on.

I never do, but I did last Saturday. It was the first time I used the curling iron in almost a year.

I had such a salon finished look, almost makes me want to go back.. /images/graemlins/smile.gif But I wont. Cause I like my Caruso..

I dont own a curling iron nor do I use one. I never really used one before either I always used to rollerset. For some reason hot stuff near my head and my face always freaked me out so blowdryers didnt come near me often either. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif God bless you all.

I haven't used a curling iron since last year. I have used my ceramic flat iron a few times this year (when I first bought it). I don't think there is anything wrong with occasional use of heat as long as the heat is not extreme and the hair is coated with some sort of heat protectant.

Nope Caramela - I'm with you. Whenever I rolleset and wrap I need the curling iron to take out any little bendies I get in my hair and then again two days or so later just to bump it right before I wash it again. Usually to get some shape for a ponytail or something. I really pamper my hair tho and it's growing well so I'm not too too worried. I used to really be concerned about it. With the success I've been having tho I think I just realize that the age old adage we have on these boards is true - it's all about finding out what works for your hair. I also use the low setting and I use a regular curling iron. Not the gold plated ones because they get hotter than normal ones to accomodate "our" hair supposedly. I think they are just more damaging so I stick with my Conair. It doesn't get very hot at all and it's not so tight that it sticks.
