i havent used a curling iron since last august but i am considering using cathy howse's methods to use it to straigthen my new growth out since i will be going 6 months till june for a proper relaxer.

I use a curling iron once every 3 months if I want to see what my hair looks like really polished.I use a ceramic flat iron to straighten out my new growth once a week. I only straighten the new growth,I never bring it all the way down to my ends. My hair hasnt suffered any,as a matter of fact its growing faster than ever.In my opinion my usage does not constitute excessive heat abuse at all so I dont feel I have anything to worry about. If I were putting heat on my ends once or twice a week then I would be worried.

i used to use a curling iron about twice a week. eventually my hair just couldn't take it anymore and broke off pretty bad so i stopped about 2 months ago. i haven't used one since, however i'm sure my haridresser will be using one on my hair next month. anyway, i did still use it to smooth my new growth some but now i've been just doing twist outs to make the growth more managable. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm not ashamed to say that I use my curling iron 2x a week, after I wash, condition, and flat iron my hair. My hair does not break off or anything and I prefer a smoother look. I think as long as you pamper your hair you won't suffer for it. I haven't and I'm not giving mine up!

I haven't used my curling iron since last month to straighten my hair. I really don't have the need to use it until my hair grows longer. Heat is not really good for your hair anyway. /images/graemlins/nono.gif
