Hi Ladies, I recently threw out all of my old and no longer used products. I looking to start all over with restocking my products and appliances and other things such as pins, clips and things like that. Please help me out with suggestions for

1) products- shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, shine serums etc..
2)other supplies- clips, rollers etc....
3)appliances

Please give me recommendations. What are your staples?? What keeps your hair in tip top shape.

oh my goodness. it has taken many months for me to find my staples. I just threw out a bunch of stuff, as well. Now I am to a point where I don't fall for the lastest trendy products because I know what works for me.

Shampoo actually vary. I can use any but I like Kenra Platinum for Thick coarse hair. That one is a teat because it is quite expensive. I like NTM shampoo and several Nexxus shampoos. CON Ultra Moisturizing is good for a quick wash when I don't have time to deep condition.

Kenra clarifying or CON clarifying are in my collection, as well.

Now I have been deep conditioning EVERYTIME I shampoo so CON can be a bit much because of the build up. I use it less often these days.

MISS KEY 10 en 1 Super Conditioner - I cannot live w/o this one for my deep conditioner.

Porosity Control Corrector seems to be a staple for me, as well. I need it after a relaxer.

My list is pretty long, but I have photos of my staples here: http://public.fotki.com/amalata/my_products/

Shampoo
Plastic caps
Deep moisturizing conditioner
Protein Treatment
Instant conditioner
Wide tooth comb
Fine tooth comb
Hair gloss (shine)
Leave-in conditioner
Light hair oil (coconut)
Heaver Hair oil ( I personally don't have or want for that matter)
Setting lotion
Protein gel
Rollers and clips
Night-time head wrap

I got this information from "Healthy Black Hair" by Nicole Elizabeth Smith. It is LHCF in book form in my opinion.

very nice list.

there are so many.
you have to know what your hair needs for you to know what to look for and what to get.

i'm using nexxus right now, but i'm running out. I'll be getting organic products (Giovanni Direct and Aubrey Organics) next month when i'm done with nexxus.

Read her book and it will solve all your propblems I promise you.

Oh, I have finally figured out that it really doesn't made what band of moisturizing conditions you use or what kind shampoo you use as long as you have a relaxer.
I think anything will do in my opion, now that I have a relaxer and all the products work just fine, even the ones I thought I hated.

Getting this book and a good relaxer is an excellent start.

The book will tell you.

She will have you do a quiz on whether your hair is dry, health, or damaged. She will tell you what to do and what products to use.

The main difference in the recommendations is that if you hair is dry get braids or other protective styles for 6 weeks, and if your hair is damaged get braids/protective styles or 12 weeks. She also reccomends a cut if your hair is considered damaged.

She recommends the same product for all hair types, she sorta gives you a list a products to choose from under what you need. For example she recommends about 3-4 shampoos, but there all what you need. You can also choose somehting similar off the list.

Protein treatment:
healthy hair: Nexxus Emergence
Damaged hair: Aphogee, she also recommends that if your quiz says you have damaged hair. Do an Aphogee right away.

For the rest you have to buy the book! You will refer to often trust me.

Big ups to Macheriomore for reccomending, well she didn't recommend it. I just seen she sald this book taught her every thing she knows. We all know her hair is the bomb, so I went and ordered it off line the next.

Moisturizing shampoo: Nexxus Therappe
Moisturizing conditioner (even weeks): Nexxus Humectress
Pre-Shampoo conditioner: Daily Defense Ginseng Boost, Joico K-Pak Daily Conditioner for damaged hair
Clarifying shampoo: Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo
Clarifying conditioner: Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Conditioner
Deep conditioner: Nexxus Humectress, J/A/S/O/N Sea Kelp Conditioner
Light protein: Nexxus Keraphix
Heavy protein: Nexxus Emergencee
Leave-in conditioner: Giovanni Direct Leave in conditioner
Oils: Wild Growth Hair oil, jojoba oil, extra virgin olive oil
Moisturizers: moisture mix, Elasta QP Mango Butter
Temple maintenance: rosemary essential oil
Miscellaneous: Aloe vera gel, raw honey
Heat Protectant: Giovanni Vitapro Fusion Leave-In Treatment
Detangler: Paul Mitchell The Detangler
CO wash conditioner: J/A/S/O/N Sea Kelp conditioner, Kiss My Face Whenever conditioner, Daily Defense Ginseng Boost, Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner

ITA w/ Carlita that products are soooo incredibly subjective and I think the best way to arrive at an effective regimen is through trial and error. Anyway, as you can see, I mostly use Nexxus, but that will change since they are now being mass-marketed and the ingredients have changed. J/A/S/O/N will become my staple line, and Aubrey's & Giovanni's will supplelemt J/A/S/O/N with protein treatments, leave-ins and styling aids.
