Asian BSS owner tells me I don't need the weave, I can grow my own hair lol!

This was just after I had a huge setback when I tried a texlax and my hair broke off last year.
I went to the BSS store early in the morning to buy a quickweave. I was holding one close to my face to see if the texture suited me and he goes, " Just take your's off and try the new one on:yawn:".

My hair was in 4 day old cornrows which were fuzzy, around 3" with the kitchen broken clean off so the cornrows stopped short:look:, but I was like what the hay (partially because the shop was still empty lol) and took my QW off.
Later when I was going to pay and he was like mumbling to me that "You don't need all this" [gestures towards the fake hair that takes up half the shop], "you can grow your own hair long you know?".

:lachen: I don't know why, I found it inwardly amusing and didn't know what to say. This guys pretty cocky and jokey usually but when he was trying to spread the message lol, he seemed quiet and unsure of offending me.

I don't need the message but someone else he tells might never have seen the forums. I bet he may have seen the forums himself and may well be recommending it :sekret:

I doubt if he has seen the forums but he has probably seen alot of the abusive things BW do their hair. I think alot of blacks feel that every other race looks down on us and criticizes us. But often times other races see the potential and beauty that many of us possess.

I went to a bss to get hair for microbraids several times 2 summers ago and the guy told me my own hair was too pretty...I didn't need it. I laughed. Everytime I went in there, he was telling me the same. I think sometimes people want to help us find the right product to take care of our own hair. Sometimes they have the knowledge...sometimes not...and they are aware they might come off offensive to us "trigger-happy" Black females :lachen:.

You are so right. My family and friends criticize my natural hair like crazy but other races, children and grown-ups, compliment me like crazy when I wear my natural hair.

I've also had this happen to me at a local Asian owned BSS. I know that owner, and he said, "Black women can grow their hair long, they just don't know how to take care of it." He then proceeded to talk about low heat, DCing, the whole nine. I was very impressed. :-)

Surprisingly I went to the dry cleaner today. I had just blow dried my hair straight but did not style it with heat yet. The Asian owner complemented me that I had pretty hair.

It seems other races do see and value our beauty. It was definitely a nice compliment. Sometimes we get so comfortable wearing weaves that we forget that we have nice hair underneath.

I am amazed and pleased that someone who makes a living selling that hair would tell you that you didn't need it. I hope you thanked him for his honesty. If you didn't, go back and do it. He may be encouraged to say it more often to those who need to hear it.

Very nice. Thank you for posting this OP! Usually, it would be the reverse, but this is a shop owner that obviously cares about more than lining his pockets.

Very true. Most of my friends are very encouraging of my goal to grow my hair long. They also told me they liked me with natural hair better. Makes me happy.

I know some Korean BBS owners I went to college with their daughter and they peep this site all the time to keep up wth things. Oh they know FULL well about LHCF. You know someone in Korea or LA right now is trying to formulate something for BW to grow their hair

It would go by something like African Ginseng grow you hair from SL to WL in one year.
