I've been here since 12/31/05 almost two years and I should be MBL but CLEARLY I am not it gets so frustrating its not funny but hopefully NEXT year would be my year!!!!

Been here for 2 years - hair grew and thrived. At 8" relaxed, I decided to go bald :nono::lachen:. It's now 3" long so bottom line is in over 2 years I have not made any progress at all.

It seems like lack of progress that people have mentioned is mostly due to scissors. Is there anyone that is a long time lurker that have not had progress that have not cut their hair as much and that have been generally takig good care of their hair or have been taking vitamins or other growth aids?

That's me. I look at my hair on my driver's license and almost want to cry. I was at this same point 3 years ago, and 1 year of stress, an international move to a place with wacked out weather (20% humidity one day, 90% humidity then next) and an inability to get my usual hair products had taken it's toll. That and the painful discovery that virtually ALL my texlaxed curl was removed by Henna and Silk Elements relaxer. :wallbash:

I'm really torn because I get great growth with my Freeda Biotin, but my skin is really suffering here and I think good skin and jacked up hair is a better combination than the opposite.

So...I'm down to lo-mani, co-wash, regular DC and attempting to texlax more with my Design Essentials. And wiggin it until next December. By then I should at least have some good length. Also, I've started Nordic Naturals Pro-Omega to see if I can help this skin insanity.

Sorry, I needed to vent.:perplexed

I should be waist length by now! Shoot, even tail bone length, but nooooooo, I'm barely armpit length due to a number of incidents. :wallbash: It seems I still have much to learn. Hopefully I'm finally on the right track.

Oh and about hair, I would just like to add that I understand about the cuts and trims we have to do to obtain and maintain healthy heads of hair. I was not referring to that. What I was referring to was people who just love scissors (Smiling) And if you love them you just love them! I ain't mad at cha'. Heck, a pretty cut is refreshing from time to time. So please, do not take offense. This was just my observation.

I'm not sure if you were referring my post but no offense taken at all:)

If you go by my join date, my 2 year anniversary is in March 2008. I'm currently SL in the back and mid-neck in the front. This is actually great progress b/c I had to cut my hair almost bald in March 2006...I had an inch in most places and a few bald spots in others:look:. I had to wait for my scalp to recover which meant many, many trims on the hair growing out of those damaged spots b/c it grew out weak and/or very wirey textured. My scalp was fully healed by December 2006 and the hair was very thick and soft...I never even knew that's how my hair was.

So in all honesty, the hair grow out process didn't start until about January 2007. So I went from ear and nape length in January 07 to SL in about 10 months. Shooting for full SL in March 08 and APL by Dec 08. I can't wait to have hair that I can toss

According to the 6 inch per year estimate, I should be well beyond BSL this year but I'm still stuck at APL. I don't aggressively cut my hair, I only trim when needed. I've been at APL for the past 8 months :nono: !!! And to top it off, for the past 2 or so weeks, my hair has been falling out (it's breakage, not shedding cause I checked for the white bulbs on the ends). I know that this time last year, my hair broke off cause of the weather but I was determined to do better this year but it looks like all my progress is going down the drain again! I guess I have to start over when this weather warms up in a couple months :ohwell:.

Heeyyyyy

I've been in major lurk mode haven't posted in a llllooonnnggg time. I definitely feel like I haven't made progress. My hair should be to my knees caps by now, but I became lazy and started slacking. Anyways, a new year is coming and I've already started giving my hair that special attention it needs. I'm claiming bra-strap by the summer.

Im a long time member with no progress. My hair was about 1'' when I joined LHCF after about a month in Oct 2003 and fast forward 4 years later, its only APL. But its due to being scissor happy. I never had a real mishap (ie stylists, bad relaxer, breakage etc) but Im just addicted to starting over and having nice ends. Ive been really good these past six months however and I hope to be BSL by this summer or early fall.

Yep, that's exactly what happened to me! There was a period of time where I took a long break from the forum (not intentional, just got busy with other stuff) and it caused me to lose focus. I neglected my ends for an entire year. Than started getting sloppy with heat and hot irons which I usually never even use much. I won't be repeating those mistakes again!!!

Lurker prior to '04, signed up summer of '04 -

Definitely had progress in the quality of my hair (from damaged to healthier hair), but didn't really see any true length progress until this past year..:ohwell:

I empathize and understand...:yep:

Patience...

MY hair is finally retaining length. When I first joined, I jumped on the stretching bandwagon. I lost much hair doing that. Then I tried different conditioners and shampoos such as Damage Remedy and Abba. Hair broke off in little pieces every day. Tried the baggy method. Ends split from that. Now I'm back to the basics that grew my hair before I came here with all Keracare. (Mariechamour was my motivation). I am rollersetting now instead of flatironing, so now I am finally seeing some retention. I cut off about 5 inches since my last update. That's why I haven't updated since. It annoys me everytime I look at it.

Yes, I've been a member for awhile and I still haven't reached any of my goals. My mom trimmed off 3 inches I'm pissed  . I don't know why my ends do not stay put. Once again I was 3 inches away from BSL and now it's gonna take me 8 months just to gain it back. I guess I'm gonna be APL forever.

I found out about this forum in 2004 but I wasn't really serious until I became a paid member in 2006. So, in my one year of seriousness I have made alot of progress and I'm happy with it. I know if I would have starting in 2004 I'd probably be BSL

I never make it to bra strap length. I'm not accustomed to long hair yet. Sometimes I feel something crawling on my neck and realize that it is my hair. I get layers cut twice a year. It gives my hair more body. Maybe one day I will learn to deal with long hair.

I feel the same way!!! Mine is due to the scissors also, but not by my own desire!! In Jan. '06 I went from below SL to nape/ear length when I went in for a TRIM!! Over the next 12 months I had to trim a lot to even up that horrible hack job...about 6 inches in total. :look: This year I've only used heat twice and STILL had setbacks due to certain bandwagon procedures! :wallbash: I'll probably got a trim in January and I hope I have even a little progress to show for the year! :ohwell:

My hair doesn't grow very fast, and I did not have long hair as a child, but when I came to LHCF my hair was at bra strap level, but it wasn't due to any intentional hard work on my end. I simply had worn braids off and on for years with maybe 3 perms per year. Ate healthy (vegetarian), with a vitamin here and there, but I never used hair conditioner, or moisterized, I was simply out of the loop, on the proper hair products for our hair. So when I saw all the wonderful progress the ladies on here were making with their special techniques.
1. baggie method 2. MTN and 3. hair supplements I just knew my hair was going to be jaw dropping by the end of that year. :drunk: NOT :nono: After months stalking fokti's, researching until 3 in the morning, and running out to the store to purchase whatever product worked for another member. I'm just 1 inch longer than what I came with. I wish I could point to scissors, but I don't own one pair, and my new beautician is a non issue b/c we established that understanding from the very beginning. The epifany came for me when I ran across an old picture, and realized that all of my frantic behaviour to "get there" was probably causing more harm and hairloss than Benefit. If hair grew by the sheer number of products and what was hot at the moment, then I'd be sitting on my hair now. So I've decided to stop and really evaluate what works for me and my hair and then let it do what it does.

I've been a member for more than 3.5 years and I think I should be brastrap by now:rolleyes:

I think that most ladies can consider the first year a part of your learning curve(i.e. trial and error) but after that its YOU:cool:

I loved fresh haircuts and blunt ends so I undermined myself until I got serious this year. I am happy with my progress and lots of people comment on how healthy it looks:up:

My ultimate goal is full APL and I'm still confident that its reachable for me:wink2:

Well I feel you on that learning curve. On top of that, I decided to go natural and BC'ed in March 06. From then til now I've getting away with wigs, kinky twists, and wash and gos without having to come to the hair board much. I took a set of kinky twists out almost 2 months ago and realized how my hair got longer and is now at a length where I need to get on the ball or else it'll fall out (tangling, shedding, thin edges). It's not long by anyone's standards. So I need the hair board again and I feel like a loser cuz I'm on here asking questions like a newbie....I feel embarrassed that I don't have the answers to give to people

I've made a little length progress but I will be stuck at SL for a while because I have to trim off damaged/thin ends. Plus the first year I was here, I wasn't even taking care of my hair. So i've been on this journey for about a year.

Sometimes people wonder why some people here dont have any progress but you have to get your hair healthy first. there's no point in trying to grow long hair if it's thin, and snapping and breaking off left and right.

I wholeheartedly agree with this :yep: Overall instead of the 6 avg inches one acquires in a yr, I retained maybe 3-4 :ohwell:. But it's 3-4 inches of healthy hair.

Also, I agree that the learning curve is in full effect that first year you start. I lurked for a long while up until 2005, and then joined, but didn't really come here that much. I was natural and rocking braids all the time, so I guess I felt like I didn't need the boards...:nono: Anyways my official journey didn't start till Oct '06, and I had to repair a lot of stupid, preventable damage for the first 6 months. These last 6 months have been a/b establishing goals and a regimen (done!) and being patient (easier said than done!) So now I am ready to do it big in '08 :)

Glad to see this thread..I have been here and on hair boards since 01 and I still ain't at brastrap!! :( I don't get discouraged, primarily because my hair is the healthy and strong now--heck it took two years to get rid of all the damaged crap. )Now that I have found a vitamin regime, relaxer and haircare system that works my hair is really thriving. Chin up ladies!

Thank you for sharing your story. I think that's what we all need to do. For some reason, I always get to a certain length and then destroy my hair either through neglect or trimming too much. I wonder if subconscously* I really don't believe I can do it?

DON'T feel embarrassed. You do what is good your hair and your hair only. We all go through different challenges in our journey. We are not here for judgement nor is this a competition. Your hair is beautiful.:yep:

yes and no.

I started out here on the board with 3 inchs of hair. transitioned, then decided to relax. cut it then grew to mid back length. THEN cut to underarm length after my bigchop. It grew back to a few inches past brastrap length. THEN i recently cut it blunt to an inch or two past underarm.

My hair is all one length including my bangs. but if you didnt know me, youd probably be wondering how i could be here since 2003 and only have underarm length hair lol....

at least now with this blunt cut, all i have to focus on is just growing my hair out.

I saw progress big time but then I had a setback and had to start all over. Actually I've had 2 setbacks so I'm not showing the progress like I use to when I first started.

remember if subconsciously you don't believe you can do soemthing, it wont happen. in the words of henry ford, "whether you think you can or you can't, you're right!"

sometimes i felt i could never make progress with my hair because i kept having setbacks. But then I said, you know what? if there are so many women here that could it, so can I!!! Patience and pereseverance is key!

I also agree with nicki6, it does take time to learn about your hair, im still learning and it's been more than a year.

Although I haven't been a member here long, I've stalked this and other hair boards for two years before joining LHCF. You would think that I would have hair down to my feet by now with all of the knowledge I gained over that time, but I think I'm just now starting to get the hang of it and gaining some length, albeit slowly.

The last two years was spent on trial and error (...and cutting off the remains:rolleyes:...)
