Are We To Blame? Online Vendors

@shawnyblazes
Here's one I just talked about in U1B1. :angry2:

When "Vendors" offer a particular discount% if you spend $X but it is almost impossible to get to that number without added an additional item or product you had no intentions of getting just to get to that $.

That Burns me up!:burn:

I've abandoned a lot of carts with this practice, because they round it up so, you have to add something else to even get to the discount.

It seems to be a big hindrance in buying for me as well. I get excited then realized I'd have to buy something I didn't even want it desire to have in the first place. You're happy for a discount but it's hard to decide to give up your money for the unknown.

I only have a problem with this when the amount is outlandish, e.g., free shipping on orders totaling $75 or $100. Since I never just buy 1 or 2 things, a discount or free shipping on $50 or $60 is fair. However, if I do spend $100+ dollars, I will feel let down if there isn't any free shipping or free viable samples (no packets or teensy conditioners).

Found a new vendor I want to try out.

The product is $18.99

Discount $3.80
Shipping $9.00

-_-

They are based in Fla. I'm in NJ. A flat rate of $9.00 for ONE product??

I am going to guess Hydra Bar Salon's Curlformer gel. What is wrong with Priority Mail?
Bingo. What in the sand heck is going on???

:amen: This foolishness is why I've been shopping my stash lately.

:nicethread: Everyone has mentioned the major issues I have with these vendors

@shawnyblazes i am one state above you and it does not cost that much to ship up the east coast.

These people need to stop playing with boxes. No one has time to be standing in lines to retrieve a box with one tiny little item in it.

I also have an issue with the sales then free shipping. If the shipping is reasonable, I won't be too upset. Especially if I had no intentions of buying more that I already put in my cart. When I ordered my slap cap, the shipping was $3.50. I think she is based in philly. This is why I like to see the shipping before purchasing (insert Hattache shade here but that price was still poppin and shipping was $6). MHC wasn't offering free shipping and had the nerve to want $10 for shipping. I can't. I just can't.

Last, I know for a fact on etsy, it's linked up with USPS, so if people are going ham with shipping, it's because they set it up that way.

Had an issue and emailed APB. She was on it, but I have a friend who wanted to try a couple items so we made another purchase. I didn't mind. When I have a vendor responding immediately and going out her way to ensure i come back, i will spend the money.

With that being said, I find it to be a weird situation when vendors don't respond to emails on weekends. If a sale runs on a Friday through Sunday and you ship within 2 weeks and 2 weeks later I email you on a Friday evening because my package didn't ship, am I expected to wait until Monday the earliest when you get your email. I've tried. I tend avoid those kind of vendors based on one bad experience, so I'm really trying. But I don't trust it.

Because they are shipping in boxes. It's really not affordable or pratical for some of us.

From a business standpoint, you use USPS and it allows you to choose beforehand your shipping method. Then it goes by weight. If you use a box, it will start around $9-12. That's a lot for something that weighs less that 1lb.

From the customers standpoint, its like paying $9 extra for a product. You could buy another product. Then your forced or tempted to spend the minimum for free shipping which is what I did when I purchased MHC. I was going to purchase 3 jars anyway, but for someone who just wants one item, it's a really turn off.

Wait, they jacked up the price again? How are these eBay vendors able to ship so cheap?

A lot of them don't use the flat rate envelopes or won't ship priority unless it's the same as regular. Some of them can charge you enough to still cover shipping cost. You also get a shipping discount on eBay when you purchase shipping through eBay.

I've ordered from MUAC and Bekura and Slapcap and they have offered $3.50 shipping (I find that price no coincidence). Bekura doesn't offer anymore, but they get to me in roughly 5 days or less.

Hairveda has Flat Rate Shipping for $6.75 regardless of weight, items, volume etc.........and another vendor has $5.00 Flat Rate Shipping and there are others that offer one cost for Flat Rate Shipping.

I have 8 conditioners in my APB cart and shipping is $8.55. Naturelle Grow has 4 items in that cart and the shipping is still at $5. Flat rate and low cost are possible.

I read an article a few years ago about this very same issue to buyers about shipping prices and purchasing.

Hi Ladies,

I think a lot of vendors may not be aware of the Rate A and B boxes. Depending on the shipping location those boxes can ship much lower than a medium or large flat rate box. For example, I can ship to some parts of Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi for cheaper than the cost of a flat rate bubble package. I didn't know this until someone at the post office told me. As a vendor I do take a slight hit when it comes to shipping costs especially during a big sale. But there are ways to make it economical for the buyer without it eating into too much of your profit.

I'm learning a lot from this thread from a vendor standpoint. I think most of us are receptive to feedback and constructive criticism. It only makes us better.

I'm tired of these vendors that act like they don't want to make money. I truly don't understand why people have to constantly contact you about offering a product in a size that you've previously offered. You ran out of 16oz jars, buy some freaking more or give me the option of 2 8oz jars at the 16oz price. We're trying to throw money at you and you're just like whatever.

And $27 for shipping when I'm 5 miles away from you just makes me delete my whole cart. I don't care if you're offering me 50% off. That $27 eats the entire discount and I know darn well there's a better option.
