Are there any products out there that reduce shrinkage?

In February, I cut my hair DOWN. It was just above my earlobes in the front and also very short in the back. Now it's about .5 inches past the base of my neck and .5 inches past my chin when it's straightened out. This was a drastic cut for me. The reason I did it is because I went a year without trimming... which resulted in splits that traveled up the shaft. :nono:

I know that I've got a little bit of hair now, but it always shrinks up! After a few hours after I've washed it it looks like a 3.5 inch baby fro, when I have lots more than that!

When it's wet it looks so nice and long and curly, as it dries it becomes shorter and the curls get a little tighter.

Is there anything that I can put in my hair to make it look wet all day?

I currently use curl activator gel, leave in conditioner, oil and a moisturizer on the ends.

I know about banding, but I'm unsure about how to do it. Can you give me info on banding or other techinques too?

:)

i have not found a product, and believe me, I've tried everything including curly pudding, but i have found a technique that reduces my shrinkage. this may or may not work for you depending on your hair type. i wear my hair in two strand twists for a day or two to give the wave/curl time to set. i take them out, but instead of wearing the twistout (which i don't like) i wet my hair, moisturize, and use either gel or mousse (i prefer mousse) for hold. do not comb your hair...this is the key. twisting forms big curls/waves and big curls/waves = weight so you will not have as much shrinkage.

Thata a great suggestion! I just don't think that I would like to walk around in 2-strand twists. I could just do it for overnight andfter my hair is a little airdried after a co wash.

I think it would work on my hair. I do something similar every night almost which does give me (slightly) elongated curls.

How do you wet your hair after you take the twists out, do you actually rinse it, or do you wet it with a spray bottle?
