Are people excited for you now that your hair is growing longer?

I flatironed my natural hair for the first time at my sisters house and my neice who is 15 kept coming into the bathroom to look and commenting on how long my hair had gotten. Now she ask me to do her hair frequently and has told me she is going natural and that she wants curls like mine. She hasnt had a relaxer since about October but her relaxed hair is breaking off ( more than it was previously) because she isnt Dcing and moisturizing like I showed her.

My mom acts like she is not impressed but ask me to bring products for her to use and also ask me to twist her hair.

My superviser (she's hispanic) was the only one who acted excited though when she saw my straightened hair she was like Wow I couldnt tell your hair was so long! (I wasnt even Apl yet at this point) I told her its because my hair shrinks when curly she said yes but I can still usually tell. Now that I think about it she seemed dubious my hair was mine lol.

when i do wear my hair out people are more so shocked than excited (i had EL hair for a while, by choice, and now im past APL). For the most part im always in PS (braids, half wigs, buns, weaves) so when i do decided to wear my hair out, folks are amazed at "the amount of hair i have" . I even had a friend get upset with me because i wear weaves.
 
My male BFF keeps telling me "will you stop growing your hair?!' To which I usually respond 'no' and then we both laugh...

I think people are bored seeing my hair now. Except for my grandmother, unless I get to FULL HL, it's no biggie to them. NOW, when I decide to flat iron with the marcel at the salon @ the end of the year (already made my apt.) THEN I'm sure I'll get all the questions lol

It's funny how they just ASSUME I've always had long hair and b/c of that assumption, they don't see it as an accomplishment. Sort how we feel on this site when we ask 'have you always had long hair?'

OP, is your hair full APL or a few strands APL? Full APL looks longer than strand APL.
I'd love to cut to a full blunt APL-BSL length, yum!

No, I am actually getting pestered because I dont show my length. I get "Why arent you wearing it out?" Why dont you get a relaxer to show how long your hair is? " "Why dont you do anything with you hair, yeah its long but you dont do anything with it!" and my personal favorite "All that long hair gone to waste!"

They dont get protective styling and I wont waste my time telling them becuase they wouldnt listen let alone implement it.
 
I've come to a decision...

No one really seems to care about my hair now, and I'm perfectly fine with that, but, just for fun, I think I'm gonna go out and buy a really short, really cute wig. Maybe a pixie cut or something. Then I'll tell everyone I'm going to the shop to get my hair done, and come back wearing the wig. THEN we'll see what kind of reactions I'll be getting! lol!

I think I'll wait till this summer to do it, when I'm full SL! :scratchch

Yes. My mom can get a little TOO excited. she wasn't happy when i BC'd so now that i've gotten serious about my hair she's super excited. my BF met me a year after i started growing my hair out but he gets excited when it's in stretched style. my friends, those i've known for a good 5 years, have noticed the changes in my hair over the past year and a half. i've given out a few reggies and have styled hair. my hair isn't even full BSL and i can't think of any natural i know IRL with hair my length. i guess that's why i'm getting this response.
 
Yes, right now my mom is watching from a far.

But the biggest surprise has been my new stylist. I walked in curly needing a dusting. I let her flat iron it so that she could dust on straight hair. She kept saying "WOW...look how long it is..." and could not stop touching it. :lol: She already said she was looking forward to my next visit next month to fix my color.
 
Most people don't know anything about my hair because I live in a bun.
And the people who do know don't particularly care, although once in a blue moon, my mom and older sister will compliment me on it.

Personally, I don't care that people don't pay my hair any mind. In fact, it's better because people used to be all up in my head, bothering me about my "white people" products and regimen and laughing at my aspirations and it got on my nerves. Now they keep quiet and let me do what I do, and that's good enough for me. :yep:
 
NOPE!!! LOL, it's just because A) I have a short TWA now so there's nothing to get excited about and B) I used to have APl-BSL relaxed hair and when I cut it off the first time, everybody I know acted like I killed their child or something, my mom wouldn't talk to me for 2 weeks!!!

I know that when my hair reached pre-cut stage, it will be awesome again and everybody will love it, so check with me again in like 2 years (lol)
 
yes they are, I just hit APL this March...the longest my hair has ever been:grin: and my best friend took so many pictures of my twist out a few days ago. She absolutely loves my hair and supports my growth journey. She's as excited as I am the longer my hair gets.

An ex BF of mine is also constantly asking me how long my hair has gotten since he last saw me. He is also in awe that i've come so far in only 1yr 4 months:lol:.

My hair is usually in protective styles under wigs so most folks have yet to see my growth, i'm hoping to surprise them at a huge cultural party this summer. I can't wait:lol:

My SO was amused at first, but he's kinda bored now, although he certainly likes it when I wear it down. :look: Like another poster said, I always had SL hair, it just tended to break off past that point so APL really isn't that much of a difference. I will say that female acquaintances seem to be hating a little, though. Oh, and people done started with the, '... but you look like you *should* have long hair.' :ohwell:

But she really looked like she coulda been your sister. I think I prolly looked at her, like, three seconds too long, but then I smiled and made it like, Awww, you're expecting. :giggle:

I'm full APL but I still think it looks shoulder lengthish

That's kind of my length check shirt, in August my hair stopped above the words, and last time I had it straightened it was about .5 to an inch below it.

Second pic, it's APL but IDK still doesn't really look longish to me.

Oh wow no way! I'm in Mass so that definitely wasn't me. I hope my twins hair was on point LOL I'm not prego but I'm trying.

It was a few ladies of LHCF who said it, lol. I'd have to e-swing it!

IRL, no one has ever mentioned my hair, good or bad, other than my bff. I've never been asked about the switch from relaxed to natural, either. I'm not including men. I have a couple guy cousins (in their 60s) with long hair and they noticed I was going natural. But who wants to talk hair care with old pimps? :lachen:

Your hair is gorgeous and yes its long and past APL. You're not too far from BSL.

My hair isn't long yet but it is definitely thicker and bushier and healthier than it's ever been. My mom has really noticed and likes that fact that I have finally started caring for my hair. We talk about hair care routines all the time now and she has me buy her amla oil for her hair each month - so she's even learned some things from me. My hair get stares from people at work - mostly friendly and positive. A few ladies have asked me what I use in my hair. My hard work is starting to pay off. :)
 
My mom is only excited when I straighten my hair. When it's curly, she complains that it looks nappy. Lol.

It's kind of sad cuz I really enjoy it when she's excited and proud of my hair. When I straighten I make sure to send her a pic of it just so I can have her ooh and aah at it. This little girl just wants her mommy's approval every once in a while. *sigh* Where are the violins when you need them?! Lol.

My friends and acquaintances get excited with just about every change I make to my hair. Lol. Most of them are relaxed and they have this notion that natural hair can only be worn in afros. So when I do an elegant style, a straight style, a sexy style, or ANYthing really, they're in shock.

This post makes it sound like I have a lot of ignorant people around me... :scratchch Maybe I do. :perplexed

I remember that thread and I was one of the people that said you were being petty. I said that due to the things you said in your original post in that thread. You insinuated that the people who did not "notice" were jealous of you among other things.
 
Nobody has said anything about my length even though I was NL less than a year ago and now on my way to APL. I guess its because I'm transitioning and shrinkage is crazy. They have noticed how thick its getting though, but that would also be because I'm transitioning. All I hear all day is "its SO thick!" or "how do you deal with all that thick hair?" or the best one of all from my grandma "how do you comb it?" :drunk:
 
Yes and it is a very good feeling. It's great to feel supported.

My family gets excited as it gets longer. My mom and aunt are very proud of me for learning to take care of my hair and how well I am doing it. They both wish I would show my length though.

My co-workers, especially Black co-workers, always compliment and praise.
I sometimes feel like a mascot though. The ones I'm closest to are prideful of my hair growth and that I am proving that Black hair can grow. On one hand it is wonderful. On the other hand, it sometimes feels weird.
 
Yep. I think ppl are more in "awe". They have definitely noticed that my hair is the longest they've ever seen. I get all kinds of questions from friends especially regarding hair care. My family doesn't seem as shocked though.
