April Fool's Stretch Club/Challenge

I didn't sign up for this challenge, but I actually ended up meeting it. I won't be getting a relaxer until April 1, 2006. I got a relaxer at the very beginning of January, and it was underprocessed, so I've been working with it since then (almost 4 months!)

I can't believe I made it this long. I'm getting a touch up next Thursday (13 weeks). I probably could go longer, but I'm getting married on the 22nd and I need to figure out what I'm doing with my hair for the wedding. I didn't do the two-strand-twists like I planned, but it still worked out. I can't wait to see how far past collar bone my hair is. BSL here I come!

I've done pretty well, but I'm not ending my stretch. I started a swim class last week, so I'm extending the stretch until the end of the month.

I think I've got a routine down, so it's not so bad. I found a new friend in CON:love: and actually enjoy washing my hair now. And let's hear it for the scarf! Thanks, Sylver2!!!

Don't mean to hijack the thread---but could one of you do a quick rundown of Sylver2's scarf method.

I viewed her album some months back--but I was natural and just kinda scanned over that part. :look:

I've been doing all kinds of searching---but none of the posts I've found detailed it and her password is no longer in her profile.:(

Thanks in advance.:)

congratulations ladies!!!! can everyone post their results here or start a new thread with result pics. mine are below. (i quit 2 weeks ago at 22 weeks)

I made it! I made it! Although I didn't officially join the challenge, I still made it to April 1st. My last relaxer was on Nov 11, 2005. I just finished up my relaxer and I am now deep conditioning under my heating cap:)

Made it! Just a little past 6 months and my hair is ANGRY!!!!! I'm going to try to go further; now incorporating more deep conditioning. I have my 3 inches of new growth, and a couple of dustings along the way. My hair is evening out and definitely thicker.

Moving to a new place in a couple of HOURS, so will post pics in my fotki when I get settled (probably in a couple of weeks).

Great job ladies! Keep it growing!

Thanks! I didn't like it at first but it's definitely grown on me in the past 3 weeks.

Ladies that made it I commend you! I have been peeking in from time to time to see what's up....I wish I was brave enough to have tried this (but I probably would've looked like Buckwheat).

Congratulations!

Salaam,

Congrats to all of us that made it and for those who tried!!!!!

I'm going to continue to stretch until after I have my baby.

Here is my adapted version of the master's scarf method. :) After I wash my hair (with CON) and detangle it (MNT), I apply my leave ins (NTM, Pantene R&N) and smooth down my hair. Then I tie my scarf on really tight across the front and top. I try to pull down the back of the scarf as tight as I can and either have my hair hanging out the back in a braid or tucked under in a loose knot. After about 30-45 minutes, I take off the scarf, and work my moisturizer (combination of scurl and another activator) on the new growth. Then I do four braids and tie the scarf back on to sleep.

Using the scarf to smooth my hair down in the first step has kept it from drying frizzy and puffy. Applying the moisturizer and doing the braids when my hair is partially dry has also helped cut down on the frizz and the drying time. I also apply extra moisturizer or gel to the crown to help with the frizz.

It took me two months to get this system down, but it's working well for me now. So I give my props to Sylver2 for letting us in on her secret.

I made it to March 26th... 3 months post relaxer to the day. I could have went to April 1 but I was bored, starting at half a jar of relaxer. But congrats to all the ladies who made it!

In 2 weeks I would have went 4 months no perm.....My hair looks and feel great. Ladies when I comb my hair, nothing comes out. I mean nothing. I am kinda shocked mysef to be honest. My hair is sooo nice. I am going to update tonight my latest hair style......:)

I made it!! I got my relaxer on April 1st. My last relaxer was November 26th so that makes its 4 months and acoupl'a days. I use Mizani Sensitive Scalp which I LOVE. My hair is usually flat against my scalp after a relaxer but its not like that this time.

Also, the last two times I got a relaxer it's been dryyy but now, its so soft!! VEry excited.

The only problem that I did have however, was the fact that my hair is falling out still. I'm not sure its breakage its just shedding.. I think I mioght have to investigate perhaps having scalp problems

Congrats to all!!

I made it. No breakage. So im still going to stretch until 6 mths post. Good luck ladies. What benefits did you guys find form doing this?

Hi Ladies,

I made it too! I am going to relax my hair next wednesday or thursday. The last time I had a relaxer was December 23, 2006.

I put in braids for the last six weeks of the challenge (crown and glory method, did them myself) and took them out last Friday.

When I relax next week it will be 3 months and 3 weeks since I got a relaxer (my longest stretch to date). I could wait until exactly 4 months, but my birthday is on the 18th and my boyfriend is coming to visit me next weekend so I want to have my hair done.

I have decided that I will be getting my hair relaxed 3 times a year. So my next after this one will be in August or September.

Thanks ladies for starting this challenge

I learned to love my hair the way it is. I can't believe I used to do all the things I did to my hair to get it straight or curly by applying heat and relaxing it every time I saw some "naps." I've also learned that those "naps" are actually signs of healthy hair growth, and I love them. I love my little curly-ques and waves!

I also learned that I like my hair full and wavy. I hated getting relaxers that plastered my hair to my head, but that was the only way (I thought) to comb my hair. Now I can comb my hair with my fingers and it's so soft and moisturized! I'm looking forward to relaxing next month only to see how much my hair has grown, and it has grown. That'll be six months post, so I'll be stretching with you.
