I wear bun snoods often, both because they look good, and to protect my hair. Until recently I didn't know that they were 'snoods', though: I just thought of them as crocheted bun cages!

Serena, where do you find the crocheted bun snoods? I'd love to get some in black but I don't know where to look (besides online).

I lightened the pic of you in your snood and now I can easily see the maroon/dark pink color and texture. Can't wait 'till I get mine!

Alicia Keys is wearing one in her new video in her diner scene where she is a waitress. She has her hair braided in the front.

I remember in the 80s when snoods were in style. You could of gotten them in any color. I have too much hair to put in one now but I would not mind wearing one.

They make them now in all sizes so all lengths of hair can fit well inside. I saw one that looked like it's for waist length hair, and it stretches.

If anyone is interested in ordering a snood from www.snoods.com, the owner is running out of certain styles because of Christmas. I'm ordering two for gifts. Here is a reply she gave me Friday, December 12:

Well, I have lots of the fancy Net style in both standard length and extra long. I also have most basic colors in standard pattern and length. I have at least one of most of the metallic combination standard pattern snoods. I have just a few regular fancy and my beaded standard patterned snoods are more limited. I also have a few extra long standard snoods but not many. It would help if you would let me know what colors you are looking for and I can tell you more specifically what I have in stock in the colors you are looking for. It might be easier if you'd like to call me at my toll free number 1-888-532-3304. I should be home most of the day tomorrow between 9 & 5 central time.

It's easier to tell you what I have than type them all out. :-)

Thanks for checking and let me know what color your looking for.

Thanks for posting the link cause I didnt have a clue as to what a Snood was. I did have one and just wore it to bed. then it got all streatched out so I got a satin bonnet instead. I think I will go to the bss and buy me another one.

I sometimes wear a bun snood. Most stores that sell dancewear have them(Ballet dancers wear them all of the time). They should definitely be everywhere in NYC.

I thought I saw some made of a satiny material but I can't find the link. I've seen cotton and leather, probably because they are more durable.

I must admit that snood thingy looked beautiful on A. Keyes, but I still don't think I personally could pull that off.

I got my snood today! I ordered a beautiful handmade one at http://www.snoods.com. Mine is an extra-long black crochet snood with black pearls and it can go with anything, dressy or casual. I must say I already turned heads with it (in a positive way, of course!) and I'm so pleased with the way it looks on me. I'm stretching my relaxer as much as I can and my snood hides the poufiness from my new growth so well and so beautifully! Here is a pic of what I have (except mine is black on black - the model is wearing navy with gold pearls, which I like too!):

Great customer service directly from the owner and designer.
Pretty fast shipping too.

I like that style, Isis, but I wonder if an extra long one like that would slip off. Do you use pins to secure it?

It doesn't slip off. It has an extra long black cord interwoven around the edge, which ties in the front at the top. According to the instructions, I can cut it down (the hanging ends of the cord are very long). When I tie it, I can tie it as tight as I want. She makes others that one has to use bobby pins with. If I choose to, I can use a bobby pin or two with mine also.

Isis,

I really like the melaniemoore site. I like the snoods where you put your ponytail in and secure it. But they are sooooo expensive!!!! The one I liked was 169 dollars!!!!! NOOOOO way I'm gonna pay that. But they were really cute...hmmmm

Yes, that's so true, my friend and I were wearing them back them, but we used to call them hair nets. I'm glad they are making a comeback. Fashion Slave, you hair album is a great boom to look at.

i am using the mini snoods

in my album i have pics with my hair down, but this is not how i wear them daily. I wear my hair in a low bun with the snood over all my whole head. everyone likes this style alot (it's the snood version of wearing a nice scarf knotted in the back to me)
smile.gif
it really dresses up my boring bun
wink.gif
hubby had the nerve to ask why had i not worn my hair like that before

it's quick, easy and neat.

I got one of those mini snoods at home. I think I'm run some elastic through the edges and tie it around my bun! I have for some months now and did not know what to do with it. (head too big to wear it as cap

I like those ponytail snoods too.

They look so elegant. I can't see what it is that makes them so expensive though. I must learn how to make these.

If you already know how to crochet, they're really easy to make, even with beads crocheted into it. With practice, you could crochet a plain snood in less than an hour & hot glue some beads or sequins on it.

I'll have to learn how to crochet Ipanema. I think I can learn fairly quickly.

My first project would be a ponytail snood which shouldn't take very long to make if it takes about an hour for a regular one snood.

When I was at Sally's recently, I finally saw the snood some of the ladies here were talking about, very inexpensive too. I don't know how I missed it before.

Anyone still wearing snoods?
