Anyone Wearing Snoods To Protect Their Hair?

I knew 3 black ladies who looked so beautiful wearing their snoods to work and everywhere, as a protective style. They never had "bad hair days" and they always got compliments. I was especially intrigued by Mahalialee on this board with her posts on how she crochets snoods, especially her "Jewel of the Nile Egyptian hair snoods". (Are you selling any yet Mahalialee? If so, I want one!)

One great snood site I found is at:

http://www.snoods.com/snood.html

When my challenge is over, I'm getting some.

Anyone wearing snoods to protect their hair or just because they look great?

I wear snoods all of the time. They look great over my fro. I don't order them from snoods.com. I get them at the beauty supply store for $1.50 a piece.

It's true they are old school like, Middle Ages, but I think they will always look good! The Egyptian one Mahalialee makes sounds like it looks exotic. I really want one now! I would rock one too!!

Only $1.50 each?!

Do they have them at Sally AFashionSlave? I've never seen one except on the internet!

I have several snoods that I crocheted myself--large ones & a bun-sized one. I don't wear them too often, but I might wear them more when it gets really cold outside.

I just bought hair net type thing from Sally's for 2 dollars. I plan on wearing it as a "cap" with my hair out and not very often.

I didn't even know what a snood was lol. The way they are wearing it is definitely not my style. It reminds me of Coretta Scott King and even she recently changed her style on Oprah.

Snoo...what?

this is definitely not a style i could/would sport.

I'll leave that to the more fashion adventurous ones here!

I have never seen them at Sallys but I always see them at black beauty supply stores all of the time. They are not that impressive until you put them on. They are nothing but crochet nylon with a covered elastic opening. In the south we call them "Coup Caps"

I wear bun snoods often, both because they look good, and to protect my hair. Until recently I didn't know that they were 'snoods', though: I just thought of them as crocheted bun cages!

I have a couple of these; they're only a dollar or two at discount stores... I wear them to bed over my rollers sometimes; I would NEVER wear it out in public!!

I have 2 that I purchased when looking for something to wear to bed at night. Ummmmm. I'm going to start thinking about more creative ways of wearing them. Maybe pushed to the side as a Beret...add an ornament....scrunch the excess length of the long dread type Snood to form a rosette thingy....yeah, your right, I'll go somewhere and sit down now.

Here is another website selling snoods. I would definitely wear a snood in public. I think it's a cute style. Oldskool but effective protective hairstyles. They come in different styles and you can also make your own for a more personal touch.

http://www.tznius.com/cgi-bin/group.pl?id=30 (little bit pricey, non-crochet snoods in different fabrics and designs)

http://www.faireware.com/headwear.html

http://melaniemoore.com/snoods/snoods.htm (really frikkin expensive but very pretty, decorative snoods)

http://crochet.about.com/cs/snoods/ (make your own)

http://www.mjtrim.com (beads, lace, and other marerial to make your own snood)

http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip199.htm (info about snoods)

http://www.discountdance.com

http://www.dancewear.com

the above three were posted by Tracy on another thread

Thanks for those links, Boadicea. I put the ones with the make your own crochet bun cover/snood patterns in my Favorites folder. I'll be giving them a try some time.

Yes, thank you Boadicea for the links! I've never seen so many beautiful snoods. The ones at http://www.melaniemoore.com are so elegant and dressy and I like the way the model is wearing it. I like the Nigerian, black leather snood and some others. Very expensive like you said but great ideas. The others are nice too. I like the description one site gave that these are bags for our hair.

Aren't they pretty? I may try to make my own and decorate it with stuff from mjtrim.com Seems like all you'd need is the snood and a long rectangular barrette...and sewing abilities...of which I have none

I tried to wear a snood out one time and my mama and sister told me they weren't leaving the house with me with it on because it is not for outdoors!

Anway, I think they are cute as well.

You look good in your snood!

I saw your other pics too and your hair is growing fast - congratulations!

i just bought one today. I just tried it on and it looks cute. I can't wear it yeah because I am on the vaseline challenge. Does it serve a protective style?

I think it's supposed to be a protective style.

We just need to make sure our ends are not exposed. So did you buy any particular style of snood? What color?

That looks good, AFashionSlave! You're making me want to pull out my snoods from wherever I hid them & slap one on my own head.
