Anyone here with type 4b hair with length to it???

Well... I do here what your saying, but I agree with jainygirl. Its all about how you care for hair.. it can be jacked up with any hair type. I'm a 4a at the crown and 4b in the back and my hair is close to bra strap. I have about an inch or more of new growth and I'm deep conditioning under the dryer as I'm typing this. I'm gonna press it out because its outta control. I'll try to post some pics when I'm done so you can see.

i'm a type 4b, and my hair was past bra-strap and always had been until i hooked up with the WRONG hairdresser (she does my mom's hair well, but f&cked mine up [excuse my french, i'm still bitter about it]) and she said my hair was damaged and CUT it wayyyyyyy up to my chin. (that was about 8 months ago and she's cut my hair 3 times since then too, so now my hair is only to the bottom of my neck).

.. what was i saying? lol. it is possible to have long 4b hair though... and i have a consultation with another stylist on monday, i'm leaving that scissor happy stylist alone!

People with 4b hair have to take the most care of it. They can not treat it like everyone else dose because it is the most fagile.

I have 4b hair, relaxed, extremely coarse. My hair Halle short in 10 of 2001. Now it's between my shoulders and bra-strap. I think I will be bra strap by 8 of 04. So just a little shy of three years of growing. And definition of 4b is can't comb it without it either being relaxed or plaited to straightened it. A lot of people mistake my hair for a wig or a weave when it's done right (relaxed and flat ironed), but otherwise you don't want to do this.

Yeah, I saw her hair. I actually bought her UBH products. I like the conditioner and the shampoo. The moisturizer is a little too wet for me although it does moisturize. And yes, I agree that she looks like a 4b......
Thanks,

An inch every 2 weeks huh? She must be a chia pet!

Girl, U gave her a couple of chances too many! She would've been cut after she chopped my hair off the 1st time! Good luck with the new stylist....

(it's a song, had to say it).
I can't wait til my hair gets to be that length! I hope I can keep it natural for that long. How long have you been natural?
Keep up the good work! You know what works best for your hair!
These pics are so inspirational. They give me something to look forward to!

Thank you girl!! I've been natural for a little over a year...I'm just starting to gain some length now since I started my regimen 4 months ago...

I know the song...everyone sings it when I do my hair like that

...Don't worry, your hair will be there before you know it...you just gotta be patient.

Re: Anyone here with type 4b hair with length to i

I have 4B/4A, I have yet to figure out the difference between the two, but my hair is definately the typical "nappy" type hair. My hair is bra strap length and thick, it's withstood me stupidly blowdrying it every weekend and then flat ironing it and I wear it out every single day not counting weekends. I tried conditioner washes but I couldn't style my hair like I wanted to so I stopped doing it plus I didn't like the idea of not shampooing my hair. I think the key is figuring out what products/techniques make your hair happy, honestly speaking I think it's harder or should I say requires more dedication then growing out wavier textured hair, but it can be done, our hair is drier and more fragile. Also hair grows from the inside out so having a healthy body is a good way to start, when I'm eatting properly, drinking water, excercising, etc. my hair is thicker, shinier and grows faster and when my diet sucks so does my hair

This is my routine:
Wash and set every weekend, regular shampoo then CON, deep conditioner. Blow dry roots straight (only), wrap it overnight.
I moisturize my hair twice a week w/ kemi oyl, I used to use wildgrowth oil, but it stinks

I moisturize my hair edges more often though and usually only moisturize the ends of my hair.

Yeah I know, but I've known her since I was 8, am friends with her daughter and she lives next door to me so I assumed she had my hair's best interest in mind. She kept saying my hair was breaking so.. but now I've wised up and know how to detect these kind of things myself.

Everyone seem to post pics of soft wavy hair that is any type but a 4b. Not hating on those sistas but that hair is easier to grow long! When you see people with hair to the bra strap or longer, it's a 3 something or a 4a, not the kinky kinky stuff!

Not that it's never seen, but it's rare. Our hair is dry, wirey and breaks easily. What moisturizers work best for folks with the nappy stuff????
Is washing once and twice a week o.k. although it's drying to hair that is already prone to be dry?

Or, should I just condition wash 2 times a week and shampoo biweekly??

Myspice, please don't be discouraged! Faith is an LHCF member here with Type 4b hair that she wears natural, and if it's not at waist-length yet, I'm sure it's getting close! Her hair is definitely past bra-strap - she started out with ½ inch! Den1 is also a member of LHCF. You might try paging them both. Their pix are truly inspiring.

My hair is now just a little past my shoulders. I put it in flat twists, which last me 3-4 days, wash my hair every two weeks, but I do conditioning waters, nearly every day, I also rinse and spray my hair with my rinses, about twice a day. Plus I surge at least once a day and put castor oil on my roots. Plus I try to exercise regular and try to eat healthy, plus my vitamin supplements.

When my hair was relaxed, it grow collar length, never longer, when my hair was in curly perm or texturised, it grows longer. But being natural, this is the longest my hair has very been, I had great problems growing out my back hair and my sides, now it really grows and I realise that my hair (4b) is very fragile and it is very dry, so making up herbal rinses,(most times I make up glycerine, boiled water, rosewater, plus 1 teaspoon of MSM) does wonders for my hair.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but I've been on travel. My daily routine is rinsing/washing with CON in the shower and follow up with WGO, Profective Break free and the bun method. I do a weekly deep conditioner with EVOO and Sustenance. Sometimes on Saturday night I leave the conditioners in overnight. I relax every 4-5 weeks, I've not been able to stretch it out because the new growth just does not cooperate. I currently have it braided in individuals, but not micro. I've been using Surge also daily. Hope this helps.

Totally true. This is why I dont understand how some people put down others.. every one has their reason why they cant be natural. I learned this a year into my natural journey, so I decided to relax.

You may want to look up (mwedzi )

She is a member here. She is 4b and her hair is long and beautiful
