Because I'm worried about thinning edges, I don't bun continuously for weeks. I set my bun and forget it for the whole week and then do a different loser style the next week. I wet set my buns, apply some moisturizer and aloe vera gel and then tie it down at night with a scarf. I'm not sure I could do this more than X2/week though.
It's by no means a lose bun. They remind me of Tracy's buns.

But how do you know if your bun is too tight? I don't headaches, my eyebrows aren't raised and I don't have any lil' white bumps around my edges but yet, I am still worried. My hair def. stretched into the bun but I'm not obsessed with getting it super straight. Any clues on how one can tell if a bun is too tight?

I did it for months at a time and it definitely helped increase the moisture level of my hair.

However, the last time, at my 1 year transition mark. I was a little careless about it. I tried to get that smooth sleek bun and would brush the top of my wet hair to smooth my bun. :perplexed

Well needless to say the top part of my hair broke off and is now a frizzy mess.
CO Wash buns are not possible anymore. Now once a week I wash and rollerset, then put up in a bun. This will be my style until I cut the last few inches of my processed rough ends.....

I thought earlier this summer that my hair was damaged because I saw frizz. But, a family member assured me that they were new hairs and then I read in health magazine in the stylist section that humidity >than 80% can cause frizzyness and where I live has been 100% humidity everyday this summer. He (the stylist) also said the cuticles are not sealed when you have frizzyness. So, I had to bust out the styling aids this summer.

I saturate hair with conditioner and oil first and have not noticed any breakage. I dont wear tight pony's.

I use a bbb to gently smooth. I had forgotten bbb's move sebum down until I read centeredgirls post in the brush thread.

ETA: buns aren't for everyone though. My mom's favorite protective style are twists. She is a little over 2 yrs natural and is below shoulder length stretched. She detangles ever 2 weeks.

IBump! Is this going to be a challenge?

I don't know. NO one has started one yet. If someone starts it, I would actually join this one.

This would certainly inspire me to bun more often.

I have been enjoying my hair since late '07 after hiding it for so long. However, I am now on a serious mission to hit MBL and then, grow that out to a full MBL. Maybe returning back to bunning will help me keep my ends healthy on my way to MBL. ...

You can start the challenge LadyEsquire :) . I thought that maybe kgard7777 would start it :)

I would love to co/wash and bun but my hair is just grazing shoulder length and super thin. My bun looks very skimp, esp. when my hair is wet. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, what do you do?

Well I have found that wearing a phony bun has helped me because a bun with my own hair would not be as thick as I would like. I like this bun because it looks very neat and full and it allows me to protect my hair underneath andI can baggy under there when I want to.

I would join something like that too. Maybe not a full 6 months straight but atleast 2-3. I am trying to get to apl by the end of the year so I think it would help.

I bunned for about 15 months nonstop. When I started my hair journey I could hardly get a ponytail, but as soon as I could get a mini donut in my hair I was bunning from then on out. I still bun on the regular...it's just natural to me now.
