Im trying to see if there are any naturals out there who didnt have to big chop they just stopped relaxing and the relaxed hair just sort of fell out on its own with out them having to cut their hair out at all.

Why I am asking something this strange? :look:
well i started out with neck length relaxed hair and i finally decided to transition but i wanted to do a long term transition and decided to go with the 24 month transition.

because im anal about dates like that it would have been perfect cuz i would be graduating and cutting off the relaxer but it seemed my hair has just forced the relaxed hair out all by itself and as i near my two year relaxer free anniversary it seems like my hair has done its own natural chop along the way and i swear to u i havent cut my hair

my hair has grown to sl but i just retained the natural hair and if anything ill be doing a big trim instead of a bc or that should be lil trim cuz there is like barely any straight hair if i can find any

so just wondering if anyone has experienced this feel free to chime in or maybe my head does not like relaxed hair period. who knows.

I think it's just that the relaxed ends are weak and they just slowly break off on their own overtime. I've noticed that there is quite a bit of what's left of my relaxed ends but not nearly as much as before the new growth appeared. Because I know my relaxed hair was much longer than that lol :yep: It's like a few inches of the relaxed hair dissapeared since last June...:scratchch

The back half was completely natural before I did the BC so all I had to do was cut the front. So it is possible for your head to do it's own bc. I ended up have to trim the back nevertheless because it broke off unevenly.

It's more than likely because the weaker relaxed ends are breaking off. I never did a bc, but I had mini chops along the way. This helped me not to stress as much over the breakage and also kept the natural hair healthy.

i know it just like where did my relaxed hair go like seriously one minute is there and the next its not like in the summer i noticed that i barely had like 1-2 inches of relaxed ends being held on to and i havent put scissors to my hair and yesterday i had my hair in 6 fat twist and did an overnight dc and it looked like my ends were all curly well the ones in the front cuz i didnt really check the middle and back

I am transitioning and I have not done a big chop. My last relaxer was 07/31/09. I have done some minor trimming along the way but I have not had any major breakage. The last couple of weeks though my hair has been shedding like crazy. The relaxed ends looked so pitiful and stringy next to the natural new growth. I went to the salon this past weekend and got a pretty big trim--1.5 inches. That left me with a neck length bob. It's a cute style. Sorry I do not have any pics to show right now. Even though I was retaining both textures pretty well, I asked for the cut b/c the ends of my hair looked awful and I knew that would eventually be gone anyway. Before that cut, my hair was at the top of my shoulders. I still have some relaxed hair left. I hope to be 100% relaxer free by 07/31/10. I will be getting braids next month and wearing them for 2 mos to give my hair a rest.

really i didnt even do mini chops i got a trim and color 3 mos post but the color ends are still on my head but only the newgrowth from that time not the relaxed hair i guess i should be happy but it kinda sux cuz i guess i wanted to do a big chop too :perplexed cuz my friend was asking if i cut the relaxer out and im just like no my hair just kinda pushed it out oh well ill just do a trim on my two year mark and call it a day cant expect everything to go as planned at least im on my way to apl and this is the longest my hair has been in my life so i should stop stressing over spilled milk or however the saying goes

Yup, the natural hair is taking over so the relaxed part just gives up on life :afropick:

Yeah I didn't BC I just knew in 2008 tha once I took out my weave I wouldn't relax again. The scary thing was that I wore the same damn weave for six months from August '08 to about Jan going into Feb '09. I knew I wasn't going to relax my hair anymore I just didn't know pretty much what I was doing was transitioning. So I threw in another sew-in from Feb to July '09. I didn't know how to take care of my hair until I came to this site. When I finally took out my weave I had more NG vs relaxed hair that it never made me even blink twice about cutting off the relaxed ends. On July 4th I took out the weave and most of my relaxed ends had already fallen off because of my lack of care and I cut off the little bit that was left. I also found this site in July and I lurked until this month. Thats why I don't have a BC date because I never really BC'd.

see me too im not gonna have a bc date either cuz even though i was taking care of my hair seems like the relaxed hair just got pushed out and i didnt even noticed it just seemed as if i was sheddin a lot now there is no relaxed ends to cut off:lachen:oh well

me! it was mainly because I hit difficult times that I stopped relaxing and starting braiding and weaving. I know nothing about hair and I was an ardent trimmer. Everytime I took down my extensions, I would dc and then trim about 2/ 3inches. I have no idea when, but obviously at some point I had no relaxed hair

Same thing happened to my mom. She was in weaves non-stop, didn't relax in between and after about 2 years all her relaxed ends had broken off.

:yep: @ the bold. It was easier for me to do this also.....it allowed me to keep some length and not worry about breakage.

I didn't have to BC but I can tell you for sure that my hair looked like sh*t most of the time. I ended up braiding my hair with extensions for years.

i grew out of a short bob that wasn't tapered in the back and did bantu knotouts to hide the 2 textures. i think it took about 2yrs.

the thing is i barely have split ends its like 1 or two here and there cuz ive been braiding my hair and keeping my hair wet in nd out of the braids. im in the lhcf bootcamp for the second time nd i barely use heat so that may help with my limited split ends

Really?? you guys are making me nervous:blush::blush:...I'm transitioning (last relaxer aug 09). I know it hasn't been that long so far but I don't have any breakage (yet)...

about when did your relaxed ends start breaking off??

My nape is breaking off. I am almost 11 months post and BCing soon, so I'll just let it do its thing. I think it's from all the bunning and the nape being most exposed b/c of winter coats, etc.

my hair started breaking a lot between 4-6 months but once i got past 6 months it wasnt that bad anymore and i had relaxed ends but between 10 months and now 19 months they seemed to have disappeared somewhere my hair feels healthy though and its thriving but i did have a natural bc without using scissors it seems

I didn't have to. My relaxed hair just broke off after a while. I also trimmed the ends as I went along because they kept getting so snarled. I pressed my hair through my transition.

OP, what you describe used to be my MO all the time. Relax hair; over-process it to the point where it really needs to go;, braid it and let the relaxed hair just fall off on its own; go back for a fresh relaxer on virgin hair. And actually I would have done that the last time I decided to transition except I'd started a regimen that advised to trim hair every 6-8 weeks so I only cut it off gradually coz I was going by that regimen, otherwise I would have just braided it to grow new hair and then gone for a relaxer in a year or so, by which time the relaxed hair would've broken off on its own as it always did.

The first time I went natural I just braided my hair for two years straight so eventually all the relaxed hair broke off.
