Any Naturals Going Straight for the Summer?

It seems like I spent my winter months doing braid outs and protective styles, now that it's super hot all I want to do is blow my hair out. I'm trying to resist but I'm not feeling these looks lately and my hair has never been cute when I do a wash and go because there's like 8 curl patterns and my hair is mega thick. Is there anyone else out there as crazy as me?

I'm the opposite, I only go straight in fall/winter. My hair would never stay straight in summer, most natural hair doesn't.....how do you keep yours straight?

Lucky you. It's too humid here so it's pointless for me but if you can why not.

Keeping mine straight all summer too. But Bunning, itsbeen raining all week so my hair doesnt stand a chance of staying straight in this humidity. the buns are working though

I used to straighten even in the summertime but for me, it felt like my hair was at such an awkward length that wash and gos looked weird. This summer I put myself on a no heat challenge, so the last time I straightened was in April and I won't touch a flat iron until at least mid-September or even October. It's just way too hot and humid this summer in NYC for me to even think about straightening.

I normally straighten once a month in the summer. And wear it straight for 3 weeks. Im going to the salon for a blow out today.

I thought about flat iron, becuase my hair has grown so much but I live in TX and with this humdity :nono:...all summer all will be doing phony ponies and high buns....

I haven't straightened since Christmas. I have a serious itch to straighten but I'm on a heavy exercise regimen and it's hot as hades out here. It'd be an exercise in futility.

@bklynheary - your siggy  Fresh Squeezed Kool-Aid, really? :lachen:

I was going to try to go straight for the summer or at least a few weeks. Had a nice silky flat-iron that I destoyed in my sleep. I woke up and it was a ball of frizz, I was fighting all night with the scarf.

So I'm just going to keep it braided for the summer and may be try again in the fall.

The curls and wavy hair will rule this summer. It is 100 degrees in Chicago. I am not going to even try to put any heat near the hair. Co-washing is the answer.

I wish I had the texture for a wash and go. It's just not cute more like a wash and HELL NO :nono:! I'm between Philly and NJ all the time so it's been a major heat wave. I've been doing the wash and bunning for a week but I feel so BLAH. I'm trying to resist but I don't know how long I can resist.

It's way too hot in NYC to try to flat iron. My hair would revert too quickly. Not to mention, I work out 5 - 7 days a week (cardio and weights) so my straight hair would not last more than a day. I could have straight hair with low impact workouts (walking with light weights) but I can only do low impact outside in cooler weather.

I have not had straight hair since January. I have been kicking around the idea of trying out a new, natural salon for a blow out but until this heatwave is over it would be a waste of money. Even the salon owner said as much.

My hair would revert as I was straightening it. Waaaaaay to hot for me. But if you can do it go ahead.

keepithealthy I'm glad I'm not the only one that happens to. When I was a girl and my Mom hot combed my hair. Some times she'd get upset because she could see the first half of my hair reverting as she pressed the second half. She used to say "stop sweatting."

I knew better than to point out that it was August, our house was completely unairconditioned and she had me sitting next to a stove while she ran a hot comb through my hair. How exactly was I supposed to not sweat.

I'd live to straighten my hair but it's useless in this heat. I'm at the beach approx 2-3x a week so there's no point. Plus the second I step outside I end up looking like medusa.

Ive been straight for a few weeks. Im going to go back to wash-n-go's next week though.

I pull it back in a sleek pony to keep my roots straight when it is really hot.

This is my mantra for the summer. I either sport weaves or try to get a decent straight style and my hair just doesn't want to go that route. I am sporting my wash and go for most of the summer. It just doesn't make sense for me to fight against nature this summer. DC is way to hot this summer.

I saw the title of this thread and cringed like you wouldn't believe.

Going straight for the summer is SO counter-intuitive for me!!!! The humidity, the pool, the endless showers I take everyday...I would lose my the remnants of my everlasting sanity if I tried to keep my hair straight in the summer.

Hell my hair's been in a bun all week.

Just curious OP, do you live in a dry climate? What's your secret to keeping straight hair in the heat?

I live in Atlanta. It's hot as heck and humid, but I'm straightening next weekend. My braid outs never come out right and my wash and go's leave me with so many tangles! It'll probably only last a day maybe 2 if I stay inside, but I don't mind. I really want to see my progress.

I usually straighten my hair in December to do a year end length check, but I wear a lot of sweaters in the winter and I got tired of hearing my hair snag on the sweaters. I decided I would straighten for the summer to see how it goes. I straightened my hair a couple of weeks ago and it has maintained even in this heat. I tie my hair down with a scarf during workouts, showers and for sleeping. I also tie a silk scarf around my edges for about 5 minutes to lay them flat. So far, so good. I don't sweat a lot in my scalp so that has never been an issue for me.

Once I went curly I never looked back. I dont have patience to flatiron at all anymore or run from the rain or wrap my hair or wear a shower cap. lol

Once upon a time when I lived on the west coast I flatironed religiously.

Then I moved to DC & met a little friend named Humidity & it was all over.

I am contemplating it....the ssk's are driving me crazy.....I would just wear it in a bun if necessary

still on the fence
