Any Naturals Have the Reverse Habits, i.e. PS in Summer and Straighten in Winter?

Hey ladies! I find that winter is best for my straight styles because of the lack of humidity in the air. We are about to come out of my first winter where I straightened my hair almost exclusively (with a few wet buns placed in there) and y'all I have NEVER retained as much length in the winter. Straight hair has allowed me to have ends that are more well maintained with almost no SSK's.

Now that Spring and Summer are upon us I am looking forward to doing a few natural styles since there is no way my straight styles will last in the humidity. Am I alone in this? Any other naturals have similar practices? I know we all love pics so...

Your hair is beautiful! I actually do the opposite sorta. I stay heat stretched in blow-dried state 90% of the time. I straighten when I get sick of big hair. And I do that summer or winter. If you don't mind a lil grease, you can actually straighten with any generic brand like Blue Magic or Dax and your hair will stay straight. The "oiliness" everyone always dreads with grease only last about 2 days until your hair soaks it up. It stays moisturized, soft, and you have full reversion on wash day. And no, it does not feel stiff if you use a dime-size amount.

ag00 How do you use Blue Magic or Dax? Do you flat iron straight and if so do you use Blue Magic or Dax on each section that you flat iron?

TIA

Yep, I straighten during fall/winter and I wear it natural and/or PS in the summer/spring. Since I moved to the east coast there is no point in my straightening my hair over the summer due to humidity. I usually flat iron it 1-3 times in fall/winter. This winter I kept is straight nov, dec, and jan. I sprained my ankle so I couldn't work out, so no worries about reversion lol. However, I will say my hair is natural or in crochet braids 75% of the time. I may straighten more when I'm just maintaining my weight (instead of losing) and once I reach my hair length goal.

Your hair is gorgeous btw :)

No problem! After I wash and deep condition, on damp hair, I rub a dime size amount of blue magic on the lower part of my hair near the scalp. Then I take another dime size and rub it through the middle to end. Then I blow dry. And then I flat iron. I have straight hair for weeks as long as I don't wash it or get caught in the rain. I take that time to trim my ends and I bun. Don't have to deal with my hair for a while.

ag00 thanks for sharing! I have never used dax or blue magic to straighten. My fine strands just have never been able to take grease or heavy oils. I have heard that peoples' hair stays straight with these, though.

Gorgeous hair!!!

Yes I usually PS in the summer (buns and ponytail) and stretch/straight styles in the winter time.

I am hoping to get some length since I cut my hair in January.

The MAIN reason why I like my hair straight is because it does NOT get those dreaded SSK's :nono: , AND I feel like I retain more length. :yep:

Too bad I can't keep my hair straight all the time. :ohwell:

I don't really straighten very much. But most of the people I've heard discuss their seasonal routines, do what you mention because there is less humidity during winter/fall. I'm a Cali girl, so I don't feel like it makes much of a difference out here. But I love the idea of having versatility and aligning it to weather and health.
