I BC'D IN FEB 2010...I am currently mbl (4a/4b ) and I am ready to go back to relaxed hair for now. Anyone else doing this or thinking about relaxing . I'm not looking to convert but I guess I am looking for advice...I have some heat damage and don't want my hair to be overprocessed when I relax this Thursday, what should I do to prevent breakage before the big day?

I'm not planning to relax, but I'd suggest maybe a protein treatment in advance to strengthen your hair. For after you relax, I recommend Roux Porosity Control (shampoo and conditioner). I've been using it since I was relaxed.

It's supposed to equalize porous chemically treated hair. It does a good job of laying the cuticle down and isn't stripping at all. I can even detangle with the shampoo, it works so well (which is why I still use it).

Good luck to you.

Deep Condition + Protein Treatment the week before.

Stretch your hair with twists/braids before to make parting easy.

Make sure you trust the stylist.

Add a moisturizing oil to your relaxer to prevent your hair from becoming bone straight.

DC and moisturize a week before

if you have heat damage on your ends trim your hair yourself after the relaxer when you go home, your stylist may insist on trimming and will tell you she's only going to trim whats needed but what is needed in her head is a good 5''......not cool

make sure u base your scalp and edges well

It's good to ask your stylist or if you're doing it yourself to do a mid-step protein treatment after washing out the relaxer.

i'll add more when i remember in the meantime you can check out this thread:
