Any Bellydancers wear naturals?

Hi, not sure this belongs here but I couldn't find anything related to this in the search. I have been Bellydancing for years but just began my natural journey for real 18 months ago. Right now I'm in yarn braids(twists) but wanted to know if anyone else has gone this route what the are doing with their hair. Anyone rockin' a 'Fro? Blowout, twists. Let's hear about it. Please try to post pics if you can.

Thanks!

I am a belly dancer! I wear my natural curls in a variety of styles and know another afro'd dancer. :)

Hey fabulous! What ways do you wear your hair?

The yarn twists are nice but I'm kinda eager to wear my own hair soon. My issue is I miss my longer hair. I learned dance from a few performers that used their hair as part of their dance, so now that it's short, I tend to feel like I need a little help. In a way, it's changed the way I dance, so I've got a lot to get used to.

I've started getting into Tribal style "hair gardens" with draped headpieces and all so that I can transition to wearing those when my twists come out.

Love to hear/see what folks are doing.

@ Diva_Esq, what ways are you wearing your hair?
@ Iluvsmuhgrass, why did you stop dancing?

Thanks!

I will be starting bellydancing with my daughter after the holidays..she has been at it for about 5 yrs. She is natural and wears her hair in afro puffs with flowers. It is quite beautiful because the puffs are big and well groomed. She also rocks twists with shells, cornrows, high afro bun, etc. You can have a field day with natural styles and bellydancing. I will try to get some pics for you

Good question. I'll be starting bellydancing after the holidays and I haven't thought about it. I'll probably do a combination of hiding my hair under a scarf on really dry days and rocking a twistout if I'm feeling particularly limber and coordinated :) LOL.

I need to get better at putting up photos but I've really started getting into big fascinators and decorated hairbands. Trying to find a way to be more ok with my short hair after I take my yarn twists down. My hair is only 6 inches stretched right now, so :(

I think I stopped because life started to get in the way. You know how it is when you become so wrapped up in everything else that you become a stranger to what you love? I think that's what happened to me. Lots of physical issues and various forms of stress.

Disclaimer: I only bellydance in my own home...lol:

I enjoy bellydance partially because it makes me feel as if I'm celebrating my natural femininity which includes my hair. Sometimes my hair is in my usual bun or I let it free and just let it do it's own thing. I do have a natural friend that bellydances and used to perform with her class. She keeps her hair pretty short and often plays with color.

Aw, I think bellydancing is beautiful as well. Neither of the criteria apply to me, but I would like to do it some point.

Does anyone know of any good free online workouts to get started?

I think a natural bellydancing -particularly one with a fro (e.g. @Soliel185 ?) would look so good.

I took a bellydancing class recently. My teacher was natural, but I think she may have locs. I thought they were two-strand twists at first though. She did do different styles with them.
