I am not sure if its taboo to mention any other hair boards in here by name so don't whup me!! :spank: All I wanted to say is that I am a member of Nappturality too and I love LHCF just as much as them but.....thier website is always messing up!!! I mean always! Just when there's a thread I really wanna read, it won't pull up, or the site won't pull up at all. Or if it does the homepage takes 10 min to load and I have DSL. I know its not me because thats the only site that does this on a consistant basis. I just want to thank the mods and administrators for making this board a great place to visit, with little to no aggravation. This board has helped me out a lot and I am so glad I stumbled across it! Thanks for letting me get that out! ;)

You know, I visited them and loved some of their features but, when I read the rules, I was very put-off by the whole, "this is a forum for naturals, if you are relaxed, you are welcome but questions and suggestions regarding relaxing/texturizing will not be tolerated and you may be removed" vibe. Seemed a little harsh and made me feel a bit unwelcome. That's why I love LHCF so much because everyone embraces you for natural, relaxed, weaved, braided, short, long, etc.

I still visit the forum...because ive tried to transition several times and may do so in the future...but i sitll go on there...but u are right their forum does mess up alot...and go down...

I saw that too and I was like WOW! It did seem kinda harsh.

That website is very pro-natural with fist in air. They helped me get through my first transition...:look: and here I am transitioning again. I find their rules a little harsh, but some of the hair inspirations are great. Their website is ALWAYS taking forever to load. I like the site, but I find myself on LHCF more because we have such a great variety of ladies here.

The styling advice on NP is kick butt. All transitioners should check it out and www.motowngirl.com because the sites really break it down (and bring out the hand puppets). And I admit, being there gets me really hyped up about being natural. But you're right about the server issues. But I can't complain since I didn't have to pay anything. I usually stay a lurking because (while I understand their policy) it seems like any statement that could be interpreted as questioning is subject to some really salty responses.

I haven't had much success navigating that site in the past. I know many ladies visit Nappurality and LHCF.

I stay away from sites like that.. I ALways end up arguing about the lack of love I have for my self for relaxing.. The can have that mess !!!

They don't play over at NP! I love the site, but I do wish they would get a board simiar to this one. It is always messing up like the OP said.

They're not really saying you don't love yourself if you relax, but I think they're trying to say that if you're natural, you shouldn't be looked at like a freak for choosing to stay natural. :)

That's funny...lol. I remember I use to visit their website before I found LHCF. Thank God I found LHCF, because I almost when natural (still thinking about it). After being on their site and reading their threads, I was starting to think that going natural is the only way my hair will be healthy.

They are a couple of other hair boards that are similar to LHCF...I frequent one of them but it seems to have system issues alot as well.

Even though I'm relaxed with no immediate plan to transition, I still somtiems visit the site because they do have good info there, and there non-hair boards are quite interesting. But I would never post therein fear of being gunned down lol. I read one thread when a natural lady basically got shut down because she was asking a question about using heat on her natural hair. I didn't know that was against the rules as well.

I don't think discussing heat is against the rules per se, but you will get halted qick for talking about using heat in your hair. They have several threads about heat and how its so damaging. Its even a thread started by the administrator/owner that doesn't move, like the ones posted here about getting started with this board , surges new moisture products, ect. They are really zealous over there for sure.

 WHO made up that rule over there?!!

I visit from time to time, but as the others have mentioned, the site always has problems. And, yes some of the members can be very militant. That's why, I really love it here. We embrace everybody. :)

Actually it is a rule- no heat discussions. The posted threads are archives (like "we're done discussing this newbies"). I get the policy and it's not a big deal because I can get advice on this board and post in my albums but IMO it goes too far when people call each other out as "partial nappys" and "trendy nappturals" (as opposed to "real" naturals I guess) for using heat. Like blow dryer makes you a self hating poser but banding "to stretch" the napps doesn't??? (not to mention all the people bleaching their hair blond having the nerve to talk about permanent damage). But whatever. Whatever works.

I went natural w/ the help of that board in 2003--i was already planning it--but boy did that site help me through! The knowledge about caring for natural hair, prodcuts to use/not use, styles and photo albums are excellent :)

I visit there often, but like another said, I usually just lurk. I love my natural hair---but I am not set in stone about keeping it natural or not using heat etc.. This board does have a great variety of ladies and that keeps it light and refreshing! :)

I am also a member of Nappturality and have been since late 04. They are very "militant" at times. I usually just lurk. I thought it was just my computer taking forever to load the page. Now I see its the site. I visit very infrequently...maybe once every 5 months cuz the site's slow loading is so aggravating! I prefer LHCF to any other hair boards I've come across. There is a nice variety here. I don't have the patience for Nappturality although they are generally pretty supportive of transitioners. But then again so is LHCF.

I thought I was the only one having problems with the pages loading and stuff and I have broadband.

i too thought i was the only one whoes computer pretty much decided to take a break when it came to loading that site, lol.

glad im not the only one.

I also forgot to mention I thought it was odd that you are not allowed to post comments about hair TYPE on there. I think they have a censor that blocks out hair-typing like it's profanity or something! Why is this? The purpose of the hair-typing is for know which products work best on what mainly right?

I am a member of that site also. I love that site, but they do have alot of server issues. They don't require you pay to join or post, so they may not have the funds to upgrade. Don't let the "miliant" part of the site scare you away from the site, there are alot of helpful members on there. Like this site they give great hair care and styling advice. I appreicate that this site is here as well, I have more than one place to visit for advice. Both sites have helped me with caring for my hair.

It's all nappy love!!!

I think that they want to show that nappy hair is nappy hair, wheather it is 3b or 4b. Not to promote that one hair type is better than the other. Here we see it as a way to determine what texture you hair is. There some people see it as, "my hair is better than yours." I guess its different strokes for different sites.

This is the reason while I lurked around soo much. I'm glad because I would have never found LHCF. It seems that they get attacked for saying they have coils or curls, its unheard of. I never joined because of the vibe that I got. Over there I felt like if your not natural, your not right, evil and brainwashed! Thats ridiculous because on time or another we were all relaxed. I think it is so much more pleasant here. LHCF is the all time greatest!:)

I'm also a member. I love the products board and the off topic sub music board.

I think all the rules come down to them wanting to promote loving and working with your natural hair "AS IS". Some of us get so caught up in hair types, wishing it were one way or another, starting not to like our hair because it isn't a certain type, etc (I'm not talking about hair types in regards to finding what products work best for that particular texture)...I think they want to avoid and eliminate that kind of an attitude towards our hair.

Amen, that is just not right that they are so harshly judging like that...
