AM I JUST "SPECIAL"???? (Vent)

I think I have got to be the most "special" person on this board!!!:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

After reading all the rave reviews on curlformers, I went out and bought 5 packs in anticipation of finally finding a style I can actually do.

As I've stated MANY times before, when it comes to doing my own hair, I have no skills, but I thought these would be my saving grace. I THINK NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I even practiced on dry hair because I know how I am. It was perfect! I did a whole section and was confident that I would be able to set my hair today with wet hair. Well...after washing and conditioning my hair, I applied conditioner and a little diluted Lotta Body. I never even got through the first row before I started messing up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I followed the same directions from the youtube tutorial, but the stupid hook kept getting hung up in my hair. In fact, when I tried to pull the hair through, the actual hook kept coming apart. At one point I thought I was going to have to CUT the stupid hook out of my hair. Then the took kept pushing through the actual mesh curler. Finally, the hook just broke.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

I have a date tonight, and I so wanted my 10 week post hair to look decent. I don't know what to do now. I could go out and buy another hook and keep trying or try to suffer through a roller set, but I suck at that too.

I'm thinking about just cancelling the date and buying some Breyers and watching lifetime.

Lesson: If at first you don't succeed...STOP TRYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Girl, you are not Special--don't say that!:lachen:Naturallady had a real hard time too and after watching that Youtubevideo I could tell it was not that easy. So don't feel bad. Just do a simple style and have fun on your date--your date will never know the difference! Maybe it was the two textures idk, just try again some other time.

Don't feel bad.. I can't do anything to my hair but wash and flat iron it.... I tried a straw set today.. I look like a poodle.

:lachen: :huggle: Awww sorry hun... you're not special!

Some things take practice. Maybe just do something to your hair for tonite, then another day when you have more time, practice the curlformers. :yep: And try a way that works for YOU, which may not be exactly how the ladies here do it.

Why don't you just do it on your dry hair? What you can do is set it on your dry hair with maybe alittle holding stuff in it, or on your dry hair alone, it is afterall a roller. Notice in the video and on the site, that they're doing their hair dry. You can then sit under the dryer to speed up the setting time. Try it on your wet hair when you're not so pressed for time:yep: HTH

ETA:: DON'T NOT GO ON YOUR DATE, DON'T LET THAT HAIR STOP YOU GIRL!! If that style is not working, do something else that you are comfortable with and try the new style when you have time to play with your hair.:yep:

Ya'll my maxiglide is broken!!!! It gets worse! I tried to suck it up and went ALL THE WAY TO SALLY'S and bought another hook. Two curlformers went in fine...the third time SNAP!!!! I broke that one too! I give up. I am going to do the unthinkable... blow dry and hot curl it which I haven't done in over a year. I hope this doesn't set me back, but I don't have a choice. Yet another failed attempt at DIY hair.

As for a "quick" wash n set...not on a Friday. Any salon outside the Dom' is going to be a 4 hour minimum which is why I don't patronize "our" salons anymore and the Dom is about a 45 minute drive away. Gas is too high. Oh Well...I ain't going out again. If duct tape won't fix the hook, I'm just gonna let it go.

Is this a sign that I shouldn't go on this date? Hmmmm...

I did mine on damp hair rather than wet. I sprayed it with water to set. My hair soaking wet just tangles and gets in everything so I thought damp would make it less of a headache.

Why you keep trying to get out of this date? If you don't want to go use this as an excuse, otherwise, don't think of it as a sign. If anything it's a sign that the curlformers are not for you, not that the guy is not for you. I say go ahead and flat iron and curl and keep it movin'. Everyone is not good at DIY and that's okay. Please update us and let us know what you ended up doing. Good luck.

Ive spent too much $$$$ this week... and just wen I spent $50 on various sized flexirods yall start this curlformers thing....

I was do a twistout for your date, come home & still eat the Breyers and try the Curlformers when you are less pressed for time

I didn't show it in my video, but the back of my head too me a really long time to do...It took me like 30 minutes to get the technique down. :wallbash:

I did record my troubles with the back, but youtube only allows for a 10 minute video, so I had to do some serious editing.

So don't worry, you're not alone. :perplexed

UPDATE: I ended up blow frying my hair, setting on carusos (ya'll taught me well! I couldn't bring myself to blow fry and apply more direct heat) then wrapping it for about 20 minutes. I ended up with a pseudo roller set which got me through the evening.

The date was nice as well. I've been out of the game for a little minute, so I was really nervous. The highlight was when he said..."Wow, I didn't know your hair was that long."

YAY! My hard work is paying off! Thanks to my sisters here, by hair is at its longest point, so curlformers or not, I'll keep doing what I'm doing.

I will also wait until I have a lot of time and a few Advil before I try the curlformers again...when there's less pressure and more time.

BREATH!!!
I had a VERY hard ime getting those things in my hair too. We had similar problems but with much persistance and trying not to lose it, I was finally able to get them in after about 2 1/2 hours. The more you try the easier it will get. I am no means an expert, but the more I do them I'm sure I'll get better, as will you. Hang in there!

BTW, before I even came into this thread, I already knew that you were going to be talking about having problems with the Curlformers! :lachen::lachen:

Yay for you! Carusos always come in handy for last minute styling. :yep:
It's good to know everything turned out well plus you received a great compliment on your hair!!!
