Am I Cheating...

It worked! I washed, braided in 4 big braids and air dried overnight. This morning I put it back in a french roll, put the smoothing gel on, and tied it down. I'm about 12 weeks post and it worked! You can see how thin my edges are (I'd been getting a texturizer ever 6 weeks) so I really should step away from the heat and the creamy crack.

Thanks pearlycurly. Maybe I need to stop towel drying my hair then applying products, I should apply them when my hair is wet.

There ya go! I've tried Eco-Styler gel on dry and wet hair. It works so much better on wet hair (not towel dried hair).

I'm liking this...although I am currently relaxed/texlaxed I havent relaxed since the end of nov.2009 and have been looking for something to smooth my edges down.
I've tried the ic green gel on semi wet hair but it'll flake up by the second day. I love elasta qp glaze but i have to combine it with gel and an oil and it still doesn't last all day.
But i may try a couple of the methods listed 'cuz these edges will not stay down!

Check out my pics earlier in this thread. That stuff really works esp with some castor oil!

Believe it or not I use Aloe Vera Gel (the kind you drink)...straight from the health food store! My longest stretch was 5 months and edges, while doing my wash and go's, were getting kinda hectic! So I started applying aloe vera gel with a toothbrush and tied a band around my hair. My edges would be BONE STRAIGHT!!! When I finally texlaxed my sister (who did it for me) was laughing because the whole from of my head was straight and the back was like RRRRRR **lion roar**!!! LOL Hope this helped!

Oh and I only suggest this if youre pulling your hair back somehow...I do not suggest if your hair is straightened and you are planning on leaving it out.

Sade, you can find them at Sally's for $10+. I've yet to see one at ULTA.
If you can't find it at the local Sally's, they sell it on the website http://www.sallybeauty.com/

I find it easier to detangle with a large tooth comb and then use the Denman brush to smooth everything down. I lose less hairs this way.

It's only cheating if you and you're natural hair are in a monogamous relationship. If you all have an open relationship then go for it. But don't get made if your natural hair breaks up with your relaxed hair at the line of demarcation!!!

This is a good thread. If I protective style, I have to flat iron my hair, gosh darnit. Yesterday I went to work with my failed rollerset from Sunday. I had my hair pulled back into a french braid, but my edges were just awful looking... FRIZZZZ.

On Tuesday I still had some curls, so I wore them. I looked cute even if a bit frizzy.

But if I wear my hair up, I feel as if I need to flat iron to look neat.


HOWEVER... because of this thread... I merely CHEATED. Last night, I just flat ironed my front hair line or so. Hopefully it looks good this morning!

On my natural hair if I relax my edges? I just want a smoother looking bun. I don't mind the rest of my hair being coarse I just like smooth edges. NOTHING and I do mean NOTHING lays my edges down.

I have the SAME problem. Nothing can completely lie down my roots.....they're just so frizzy and stubborn! I have tried all sorts of gels and balms and waxes. The only one which has come close is the Bed Head Wax Stick, but even that didn't really do it.....and for the price.....no thanks. I always want to buy a new wax or gel, etc. whenever I see a new one is out from a new brand (that I haven't tried), but I am always hesitant because it's always been a waste of money.

I saw this on youtube, and despite the price ($15.49 ) I went a head and picked it up, I was really tired of trying to pull my itty-bitty puff back while my edged were wet.

I have never...ever...ever had a singular wave in my life, and I was able to get a few after applying this. I moisturize like usual, then put a little extra coconut oil and unrefined shea butter around my (finally recovering!) hairline, then "waxed up" the front/back, and it was all good for the whole day. I've been able keep my hair laid down in between washes (2-3 days) without having to re-apply....Don't know if that's a good thing or not. The wax is very thick, so it's easy to be heavy handed with it, but it has a really soft, touchable hold if you put JUST enough. I was looking a wee bit crazy till I figured it out.
