Have you tried slicking back wet hair? Mine stays down better when it's wet.

Personally, I like smoother lines better, even as a lover of curly hair. It just looks neater. There's nothing wrong with that preference (or yours!) Not to mention, for me, there are regs on how I'm allowed to have my hair at work, and so it has to look semi-professional and tamed, and so it's pretty important for my overall hair bun/updo.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You, Sade!! I was just thinking about this today. I really haven't tried anything to lay my edges down (except the curling iron...I guess that's why they are so thin) but now I have a few things to try before I relax.
This is exactly what happens. I plan to go natural then I decide...well maybe I will just touch up the edges but I end up doing my whole head!! I'm 12 weeks post so I'm going to try:
Murray's
Let's Jam (I think this is the black gel people were referring to, if not please let me know)
Garnier Fructis Wax
Eco
water aloe vera gel and Let's Jam
Hicks
Liz and Daughters (I'm not sure where to find this? anyone have a website?)
Have I forgotten anything before I go back to the creamy crack? (I'm willing to try multiple things before...well you know)
Thanks Sade for asking the question and thanks everyone else for your responses!!![]()
Ok ladies thanks for your responses! Here are my results using this product!

I will check back in at the end of the day.
Sade, all of the gels that you mentioned have a very light hold. I too use the brown/black gels and it slicks back my hair nicely. I don't even need to use a lot of gel either.
If you relax your edges you're not cheating you're just prolonging your transition to natural. I had a hard time laying down my edges when I was transitioning. I would either rollerset and flatiron or I would wet my hair, add a leave-in and use black gel to slick my hair back.
Once I did the BC I didn't have any problems laying down my edges.
Girl apply some castro oil you will be good
Sade your pics look really good. thanks for coming back in & posting them
Girl it looks great! Good job in doing it and better job in researching to find a solution other than the chemical. By the way, is your hair straigthened or are you transitioning and have a lot of straight ends?

for those using the garnier fructis wax, which type because ive seen 3 different wax products. thanks
Sade' (since we are experiencing the same problem - see my thread too http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=455358&highlight= ) the Garnier Fructis Strye Brilliantine shine - Water based shie wax DOES WORK....but just not long enough for me. By the middle of the day, it's looking a little scraggly back there. But my edges in the fron hold up very well. It's the best product I have used for my edges thus far, it doesn't build up either......but seriously, I am tired of waxin up my neckline everyday... let me know what you decide to do or if you find any better products.
Softsheen Edge Tamer..... I will definately be going out to try this today....well see what it can do with my hairWhere did you find it? Is it at the local drug store....or do I need to go to a Beauty Supply store?
oh pleaseee, relax your edges if you want tooo, who the hell cares if its cheating or not cheating, as long as your happy with how YOUR hair looks.
On my natural hair if I relax my edges? I just want a smoother looking bun. I don't mind the rest of my hair being coarse I just like smooth edges. NOTHING and I do mean NOTHING lays my edges down.
ECO STYLER PROTEIN STYLING GEL (aka brown gel)

No cones, lanolin or mineral oil (a.k.a paraffin).
Trust me, a few slabs of this and your edges will lay down. I also suggest using a brush like this one on your edges if you wanna 'smooth' it out.
It's called the denman brush.![]()
I also suggest slapping on a little olive oil or some oil to seal your hair before you apply it and yes you'll end up with hard hair at the end of the day so try doing this when your hair is a bit damp because wet hair tends to stretch a more , so when that dries after you've slapped that gel in, your pony tail will get tighter and thus... headaches
Oh btw, I've got a perm.
Oh a little tip, before bed you can always sprit your hair with a little water, add a little more oil, then tie on your silk scarf, the next morning your edges will still be smoothed down, toss it up in a ponytail again and viola you're good to rock it another day, I still live by this bunning styleI can go a whole week like that and if I'm gonna skip my weekly dts, I do the same thing for another week. Detangling is a hassle but meh, wearing a hairstyle that takes me 5 mins every morning for 2 weeks is worth it.

I agree do what you want to do. Who or what are you cheating on? I personally think it might look odd as the front continue to grow out but do what you want. Will you still be natural- technically no. So you have to decide what's most important.
My hair is STILL in place and it's 3:00pmtoo funny. That sounds just like me. I just left the bathroom doing a brush touchup.
