Thanks girls for the replies! They help! @BronxJazzy nice photos! Your hair looks good. :yep:

Welp, I might as well tell my story. What I found helps me besides cutting back heat (and using lowest setting), is good ol' Megatek and daily moisturizing with my Acai Berry-Avocado Mist. My hair health has really turned around: very shiny, soft and bouncy. I was having setbacks throughout last year each trim @ salons, on top of slowed growth from having to stop my beloved It Works supplements (eBay saved me though lol). 2015 & prior my enemy was dryness/breakage.

I'm tired of salons chopping my hair off so I'm investing in the Split Ender this month. I should hit MBL by December. :woot: Currently nearly BSB.
@SweetestChick , links for itworks, megatek and the acai berry mist pretty pls???

@scarcity21 you gotta choose which scent you want. If you choose the scent option under the "all natural hair detangler and conditioning" items you'll see acai berry-avocado I believe.

And you're welcome! :D

Just a repost about the split ender, in case you're having trouble keeping length:

Hey again, lovelies... just giving you notice that if you are considering the Split Ender you can certainly obtain an authentic product from eBay! For less than what you pay at the retailer site (including shipping). I got mine last night :yahoo:and it is definitely the real deal and was brand new with the plastic encasing around the box, manuals, distributor poster (if you're a salon owner), etc. The seller wasn't joking in the description of the product lol. :yep:

Look for the seller named beauty-pro. Located in NY. I suggest the red trimmer, better price.

I have fine, tightly coiled 4a hair that I love to wear out. I've been wearing wash & go styles since May.
I haven't relaxed since 2007 but have still not reached MBL. I cut too often (was going to the salon every 3 months) and I don't protective style my own hair much. I use heat, usually every 3 months but sometimes more.

For 2017, I am not trimming much, if at all, and I plan to only use crochet braids rather than any other type of extensions.
My last trim was about 3 months ago. I am not going to get a trim again with straight hair since I only wear straight hair 3 - 4 times a year (usually after a trim).
I plan to keep up with my protein treatments. I've been doing them monthly.

I had better retention in 2016. This is my hair in February 2016 before and after a salon blow out.

Thanks! @naturalmanenyc I was getting trims about every 3 months as well. I think it's recommended to trim every 6-8 weeks so I wouldn't say you're going overboard at all. What is more than likely the culprit is stylist(s) that does the trimming. Other factors contribute as well but I--as well as a few relatives and friends of mine notice how much length I would lose after my salon visits. Hence my investment of the Split Ender. And I agree protein treatments each wash day has helped. Do you moisturize regularly?

Yes, I moisturize regularly and wash & go generally weekly with Curl Junkie shampoo/conditioner products and different stylers.
I 100% trim too often. My hair doesn't grow fast enough for my 3-month trims. I am going to trim every 4 - 6 months, if I trim at all in 2017.
I have a Split Ender. I need to sell it though since I don't use it. I have no plans to wear straight hair in 2017.

Repost for those of us on a budget that need some strength/breakage protection...

MT
= Aphogee 2 Min Reconstructor
Eqyss Leave-in = Infusium Pro Original Leave-in Treatment
Eqyss Shampoo = L'Oréal Triple Resist Shampoo
Eqyss Conditioner = L'Oréal Triple Resist Reinforcing Conditioner (currently using)

Since there were several sites claiming arginine is great for hair strength and growth, I fig I find an affordable leave-in with that ingredient. Aphogee 2 Min was the closest to MT I could find that wasn't the same price. Guess I'll find out how things go with these new products later in the year. If anybody tried any of these replacements, feel free to give feedback.

@SweetestChick how's that Split Ender treating you? Does it get caught on your hair at all when you are using it? I have a lot of SSKs and I'm worried they might snag in the blades or something. My hair needs a trim badly but I'm too scared to go to the salon...

I have fine 4a, tightly, coiled relaxed hair. Medium to high density as well. I have made it to BSL in the past. I'm working my way back to that again. I don't really do protective styles. It's more of low manipulation. I may put my hair in a bun, but I take it down daily, I undo it just to play in it, etc.. I wash my hair twice a week. I only comb my hair on wash day. My hair is prone to knots and tangles, relaxed or natural.
