So I've honestly tried to stay away from the whole hair typing thing because I know it can be inaccurate at times, but I also see it's benefits with product selection and things like that. That being said I'm giving in and would like to ask for your opinions of my hair type. I'm pretty sure that the hair in my crown area in in the front are scab hair but I'm not sure what texture it really is.

I know this looks like two different heads of hair but it's the same. Just a couple months apart. Sorry if these aren't good hair typing photos, I've been kinda lazy with photo taking lately.

TIA.

OT: You have the cutest fro! It looks very moist, dark and healthy!!!!

Now, back to the question. I'm not too sure about hair typing either, but I would say both 4a&4b.

it's really healthy and thick. 4 means the type (coily, kinky) and a,b,c means the density so I would say you're between 4b and 4c

Looks like 4a to me. So thick and pretty!

EDIT: I found a description at naturally curly.com on hair typing -

There are two subtypes of Type 4 hair: Type 4A, tightly coiled hair that, when stretched, has an "S" pattern, much like curly hair; and Type 4B, which has a "Z" pattern, less of a defined curl pattern (instead of curling or coiling, the hair bends in sharp angles like the letter "Z"). Type 4A tends to have more moisture than Type 4B, which will have a wiry texture.

Well it looks like we have a concensus. 4a/b. Thanks to all who responded and for the compliments. I have to say though, from reading that description I don't think my curl pattern is z shaped I would definitely say more of an s shape.
