A beautician told my friend....

...that if she shaved the sides of her head 3 times, and cleaned those shaved sides with alcohol daily then her balding edges would grow back. My friend showed me her edges, I saw a little peach fuzz on the very top but nothing noticeable. I didn't, however, see what she was starting off with before she shaved her sides because she kept them covered up so well.

I wanted to get you all's opinion on this. I thought this was a horrible and silly idea, but my friend is confident in her beautician. What do you think?:ohwell:

lol I know some cultures shave the heads of little girls so that it grows back thicker and longer. Not sure if it works but if chick had bald edges sounds like she has nothing to lose :look:

She might be better off stopping the activities that made her edges bald in the first place :yep:

If she isn't taking care of her hair and keeps pulling them out wearing tight braids, ponytails, or things like that, shaving would definitely help the hair grow back.

When my son was younger he had long hair and people would always put their hands in his hair, causing a lot of breakage. I decided to shave his head to avoid dealing with it and all the hair that was pulled out from his edges grew out much thicker than I thought they would.

But at the same time, keeping tension off your edges and proper hair care will give you the same results. Its just low manipulation and no tension/stress.

I wouldn't shave unless I had really bad traction alopecia.... :nono:

But what about rubbing your bald edges with alcohol daily???? Does this not sound crazy to anyone else but me??

I told her she could use tea tree oil in a carrier oil and rub that on her sides instead of the alcohol. But no, she was hell bent on rubbing her edges with rubbing alcohol because her beautician that she "trusts" told her to do it.

. It sounds crazy to me too but more importantly is it working?

This story is interesting :look: Were people swinging your son by his hair?

That's intense. I think this is how cults start lol

Seriously, that kinda gave me chills...

My friend said it's working but I can't tell because I never saw her original bald edges to begin with. So I really don't know.

She may think the tingle from the alcohol is working but that could be her hair shrivelling up and dying lol I imagine keeping the scalp clean should have some benefit but I would expect her to be doing other things like moisturising the scalp and taking some kind of vitamins or something alongside this.

Idk about the alcohol but your friend's beautician probably suggested this using the analogy of when you shave your legs. Hair on your legs/armpits/brows seemingly grow back thicker once a blade is used for removal. Really it just looks thicker because of the blunt cut given to the strand.

She can stand in the mirror and say, "Bloody Mary," thrice too. LOL! Sorry.

:(

 I was thinking about her rubbing a bottle waiting for a genie to appear!

My take is the beautician wants to clear the pores on her scalp...which would be better accomplished with a clay mask IMO.
