Wow, that's just weird . I don't really like the idea of parents doing all these grown up makeovers on kids for a pageant; kids are supposed to be kids. Can they not make a child look nice and presentable without adding fake hair, makeup, etc?

Pedophiles, from what I have read and seen, are attracted to children regardless of the makeup/extensions/whatever. As a matter of fact, I would venture to say that looking more childlike is what gets them off. *shudder* I don't agree with that fact....if they have a type, they have a type. Basically, I don't agree with that part of what you said.

However, the second half of your response clicks with me. I don't like the fact that young girls think their hair has to be straight and/or long for them to be pretty. The fact that she said she wants her hair "down" bothered me....I wore pigtails up until I was in the sixth grade because my mom didn't want me thinking I was grown.

I think you have a good point here.

I don't like children's beauty pagaents, I don't like a tiny little child in a weave. But if that's what your mom is choosing as an appropriate expression of (whatever, haven't really heard a legitimate reasoning behind these things yet) the least of your problems are going to be whether you wore a weave or not. It will be being judged on your appearance, being compared based on attractiveness to other girls, and feeling your personal self-worth go down because of this.

However I also don't think there's much reality in expecting a mother willing to subject her child to that not going the 100 miles. If this is something you think is appropriate then I don't really expect you to then discriminate about whether the little girl wears weaves or a wig or has her hair done everytime. The message is the same 'we have to pretty you up for you to be a serious competitor in this 'beauty' contest'

In terms of pedophiles the other poster had it right, as sick and awful as it is most of them are aroused by children in a pure state of being children. Someone mentioned svu so I'll just say they've mentioned many times that even children's clothing catelogs work for the pedophile. Anything where children lose that aspect of innocence and sweetness and are dressed up as almost grown isn't appealing...so take some heart in that.

Weave and extensions are actually part of the glitz pageants. So it's technically normal in my opinion, but the trend is big hair not necessary long hair. Even if it was, they could have easily put in some kinky straight weave. I just hope the little girl doesn't thinking that hair she has on is superior to her own.

The baby is a cutie. (Sorry I consider anyone under the age of 7 years a baby.) I didn't like the weave though, she looked cute both ways but the natural hair was 10x cuter, I think it was a waste to do all that just to have the hair come out mediocre anyway. PLUS, I think that little kids should learn that their hair is beautiful no matter if it's stick straight, loosely curled, or tightly curled. It seems to me that self-hate towards her hair is being instilled in her at a very young age. My mum had loosely curled but relaxed, long hair; she never made me feel that my hair needed to have a relaxer or weaves put in to be better or pretty because it was natural and more tightly curled. Actually, it was always MY choice to get a relaxer because I always wanted to be like her and she made me wait until I was 13 to get one. Didn't mean to compare but honestly, it should at least be the CHILD'S choice without negative teachings and/or influences to do whatever they please with their hair.

That may be very true, and I can certainly understand that if a pedophile is a pedophile, he'll probably be attracted to kids no matter how they look, (nasty f***ing bastards!) but this is the kind of thing I think of when I see little girls made up to look like tiny little women! nono:

I always though that the whole idea of a pageant was to stand out and bring something unique to the competition, she was working with something the rest of those little girls didn't have and by her G-mama putting that weave in her hair she made her look like all the little clear girls with their long straight hair, its really too bad that she couldn't find a cute but elegant natural style to put the baby's hair in.

You're right, I have no idea what other values she is teaching that child and my emphasis was not on the extensions themselves, but my stance on the beauty pageant stands. I don't care for them - whether the person competing is 3 or 23, because of this my personal views will be negative and I will view those competitions as negative. Every person has the right to make their own decisions but based on my own personal morals I don't approve.

I personally think all those little girls always look alike (partly because little kids tend to have similar features and because they all have the same style in beauty pagaents), I think it's the talent competition that's meant to differentiate them because otherwise...just very similar (sometimes eerily so, lol) little girls all grinning in a row.

I also agree. I saw the episode and I didn't have a problem with that family in particular especially bc 90% of those other little girls had weaves, extensions, or wigs. I do think 3 is too young for a weave and I was wondering how GMama was going to put hair on that tiny little head but If she's doing pageants all the time a quick sew in on what looked like 4 cornrows or a wig seems less damaging than styling her hair every weekend for a pageant. Little girls like to play dress up and I can remember having on way too much stage makeup on for dance recitals when I was little.


I have no problem w adult women or teens participating in pagents bc there are good and bad aspects and they can make their own decisions but I personally would never allow my young child to enter a pageant.
The makeup, tanning, big fake hair, the outfits, I have issues with all of it at that age.

Did anyone notice how the fathers expressed these same concerns with the girls looking too grown up?

The kid looks like she has lots of hair on her head and it can be longer with more care and time. However I don’t know if the mother doesn’t want to straighten it with heat so she put in weaves? IDK. The one good thing is the mother didn’t braid the kid’s hair tight.

We know they are in the beauty business and the mom just taught her daughter the trade secrets about fake persona of being beautiful – however does a 3yr really understand? Are these beauty enhancements for children going too far? It starts off with little girls with makeup, fake eyelashes, dressing adult like and now the fake hair. Let no one cross the bridge to plastic surgery for these children.

Clearly for this pageant the mom is going with the beauty industry standards of long straight hair instead on working to make her daughter pop out with her natural beauty. I would wish for this and other families that the parents and relatives find long hair boards, hair magazines and YouTube for hairstyles and hair care for their little divas.
Unless some intervention and she doesn't retain her length and unless she finds short healthy hair beautiful this little girl will be brain washed about natural beauty is not beautiful enough not on the run way and may spill over to her own daily life.
