2016 Wig Challenge

I just realized I never official joined the challenge lol.

2. How long do you plan on wigging it?: At least until May and then picking it up again in October. If it turns out not to be too hot to wear during the summer then I might try to go the whole year with a few temporary breaks when I relax. ( I have been wigging it since 1/31/16)

3. How will you take care of your hair while using the wig/phony pony?: So far I have been washing and DCing once every 2 weeks. My hair doesn’t hold up in cornrows very well past the 2 week mark, so I take them down and re-braid them then. I use a leave in, Shea butter, and coconut oil, when I re-braid my hair.

I moisturize and seal every day with some type of leave it (which ever I grab first) and olive oil. I also use a cream based moisturizer and rub it through the braids every few days.

4. Natural, Relaxed, Texlaxed, Transitioning: Relaxed

5. Current Hair Length: Between Shoulder and APL

6. 2016 Hair Length Goal: Full BSL

This is the wig I have been wearing this month. It is Model Model Beauty Meadow in a color # 2. I plucked the part a little and added some powder my skin tone to the part. I also added some baby powder to the wig to take away some of the shine. This is heat safe up to 400 so I have curled it a few times on about 350. I really like this unit, it looks like a fresh sew in. I will definitely re-purchase this and it will more than likely become my go to style.

What do u ladies wash your wigs with and how often?

Do u take it ofe every night

And where do u get a satin cap/lining for the wig? Does that not make it slip off?

For my synthetic wigs I have been diluting some laundry detergent in the sink and letting it sit fr about 30 mins. swishing it around every now and then. I repeat the same step with fabric softener and let it hang dry over night. Pretty much good as new in the morning.

I take them off every night but not right when I get home, closer to bed time.

I got it on Amazon. With Amazon prime free 2 day shipping. I used some Amazon points and got it for under $20.00

That is awesome! I might have to look into that.. Honestly never even thought about checking amazon for wigs which is funny because I have check Amazon for lace closures and bundles but not wigs lolol.

I also fill my sink up with water and shampoo and let my wig sit in it with occasional dunks. Then I rinse and put conditioner on it and let it sit on the wig head for an hour or so. Then rinse. I use cheapie shampoos and conditioned and they work just fine. I wash whenever it gets stringy

I take my wigs off every night

Today was Shampoo Saturday:
  • Pre-poo'd overnight with my AVJ spritz & coconut oil.
  • Applied Mane Choice Green Tea & Carrots DC and went under my heat cap for a little over 1 hour.
  • Shampoo'd with Coco Curls, CW'd my length with Ynobe's Pumpkin Silk, reconstructed with Ion & rinsed out 80% of V05 Island Coconut Conditioner & ACV rinse.
  • LBO'd with L = Cream & Coco's 1000 Flowers, B = Alikay's Shea Yogurt on length, Liquid Gold's Green Magic on scalp & Honey's Handmade Whipped Vanilla on ends, O = Sunny Isles Lavender JBCO on edges.
I am really hoping for some growth & retention when I do my 1st quarter length check at the end of this month.

My daughter cut and styled Beshe Drew (yeah, I'm late) but I'm scared to cut the lace and to attempt to make the hairline more natural. Ive watched a ton of YouTube videos about doing it.

I put HE Totally Twisted Conditioner on my braids, sat under the heat cap for a little over 30 minutes, CW'd and rinsed it out and rinsed out 80% of V05 Island Coconut Moisturizing Conditioner.

I LCOB'd with L = Cream & Coco 1000 Flowers Martini Mist, C = KJ Naturals Lemongrass Marshmallow Slip, O = Duafe Naturals Love Me on length, Mielle Organics on scalp & Sunny Isles JBCO on edges, B = Hairitage Hydration on ends.

How long do you plan on wigging it?: on and off for the year. I plan on learning how to cornrow and flat twist this year

I washed my chocolate wig yesterday and let it airdry. It looks so cute. It waves up when wet, but the waves are really loose and soft. I'll wear it wavy this week and next week after I wash it I might do some wand curls.

2. How long do you plan on wigging it?:
all year for a week at at a time

3. How will you take care of your hair while using the wig/phony pony?:
I wash weekly or biweekly with Ion Healthy scalp or Cream of Nature shampoo, dc with Kerastase masks for 30 minutes and I wear about 12-14 braids underneath the wig. I recently switched from wig caps to a satin scarf under my wigs and it keeps my ends from drying out. I moisturize every couple days and I wear a bonnet every night.
