How do you protect your hairline??...planning on wigging it for all of 2016 but terrified my edges are going to be fried by the hard front laces...

2016 Goals

1) Keep up with trims (every 3-4 months)
2) Protect my hairline
3) Find at least 2 more simple styles other than my wash and go and puff.
4) Perfect my blowout.

Consistency. I've seen how my hair has benefitted from me just keeping the same basic regimen.

I'm hoping that I can get over wanting to buy too  I'm slowing getting tired of trying deep conditioners because not only are there so many but so many don't really do anything for me. Deep treatments are the only thing I'm really addicted to and being a part of the Use Up Your Stash Challenge made me realize just how many don't work for me. I bought like 30 packets of treatments and only 1 really worked for me and during that challenge I must have had an additional 30 or so more deep treatments and almost all of those did nothing for me too. I've tried a lot of the natural deep treatments over the years and some of the diy ones worked but they were messy and storage/preservation was kind of inconvenient. The other natural ones were nice but they cost a lot and ordering/shipping/waiting for sales/just dealing with small businesses sometimes got on my nerves. I've been trying the more expensive "unnatural" ones also and they're better but just ok... Going to try the few I have left and see how next year goes. I have staples in all categories I use so that's the good part. I think the funniest part of this whole thing is that $5 in store, easy to find products were some of my best discoveries of the year

@Prettymetty

Are we treating this like a challenge? If so, when would you like for us to provide updates?
I will personally update every 3 months to coordinate with my trim schedule and see if I retained an inch.

We should check in once in March, June, September and December. If you have monthly goals you can check in more often. It isn't a challenge per se, but we have to keep ourselves on track.

Goals:

Do everything I can to maximise length retention and improve the overall health of my hair.

Eat more veggies/fruits
Drink more water
Exercise consistently
Be gentle and patient when handling my hair
Be consistent with my regimen
Keep hair stretched
Protective style all year

Well my plan to protect my hair line is to use my puff style less. It's my go to style but keeping it pull back like that too much will cause damage. It's another reason why I'm searching for new hairstyles so I can rely on the puff less.

I've never worn a wig before so I don't know any tips to keep your hairline protected while using them :(

I want to be in this "challenge"! Subbing...

My goals are:
  • To reach full APL stretched
  • To find and see a professional stylist four times this year and get professional trims
  • To not be hair lazy anymore and "do" (wash and dc) my hair no less often than every eight days (giving myself a week and a day grace) and stop going to sleep with my hair loose
  • To further reduce my stash and get darn close to having only staples/HGs

Yes,yes, yes to all of these goals!!:amen:

A new year is around the corner. This is a great time to improve our regimens and start some New Years hair resolutions.

What hair goals do you have for 2016?
*Thickness
*length
*retention
*more moisture
*strength
*no trimming
*no/low heat
*more protective styles
*overall health and beauty
*reduce breakage

My goals are for growth and length retention. I don't want to be greedy anymore. I just want to grow and retain three inches all around by this time next year.

Have about 2 strands of hair touching bsl now. So my goals are to:

~Pass bra strap length.
~Deep condition every week at least most of the time.
~Stock up on high quality products.
~Find a hair vitamin for thicker hair.

Bonus goal: buy a steamer.

Get to Full BSL
Grow my hair in the front out so that the heat damaged ends are gone.
Leave in my crochet braids for more than 3 weeks at a time, lol.
Start to wear my own hair out more often. (I take a couple of days' break in between protective styles, but i'd like to extend that to a week or two.
Continue pre-pooing.

My goals this year are mainly about health and retaining what I have.
1. Trim more frequently, every 10-12 weeks or so (for 2016 only)
2. Reduce ssks
3. Baby my ends
4. Figure out my moisture problem
5. Enhance my flat ironing technique
6. Learn how to self-trim
7. Start roller setting

My hair is currently waist length, I'm straightening and trimming next week so we'll see if I'm still there after the trim. With my more regular trim schedule, I'd be happy to retain 2 inches next year.

This is a nice thread @Prettymetty.

My goals for 2016 are:

-Achieve and retain the overall thickness of my hair including my hairline.

-Length is important but not as important as thickness so 4 inches is more than sufficient for me. I don't car where this length takes me. While BSL would make me very happy, full APL is fine too.

-Take in more protein internally via amino acid pills. I also take branch chain amino acids in powdered form as a pre and post workout supplement and I really believe they helped tremendously with length in 2015 because my hair grew out fast, faster than I thought it would.

- Continue taking my hair and other vitamins, especially my Beautifully Bamboo.

-I need a good trim also so I will be getting one sometime in January.

-Keep up with my exercising because I also need to lose 15-20 pounds in 2016.

-Eat a lot more fruits, veggies and fiber rich foods for better bowel movements.

-Detox at least 6-8 times next year for 5-7 days at a time. This really helps me remove the toxins and sludge out of my body to allow important nutrients to work optimally. That works out to once every 6 weeks.

-I will try hard to deep condition my hair at least once a week, even if I have to leave my celies intact and if I do I will only do so with a moisture rich conditioner. I don't want to chance leaving protein conditioners in my hair too long and risk losing all my progress.

-Color with either demi permanent or henna every 3-4 weeks.

-Protective style with wigs, half wigs and buns. No wash and goes for me. I get too many SSKs when I do.

-Pull out my hair steamer again and use it when I color my hair. I haven't used in it in about 2 years:nono:. So sad.

-Reduce my huge stash a bit and minimize new purchases except to replace my staples/holy grails:grin:

I'll add more as time goes by.

My 2016 Hair Goals are:

1. Be more gentle with my hair.

2. Baby my ends.

3. Gain & retain 6 inches.

4. Reach MBL.

5. Be more confident about my natural hair and wear it out at least once quarterly.

6. Reduce my product stash.

I know this challenge is for 2016, but I am starting early.

Goal 1: Today, I pre-poo'd and I was more gentle with my hair.

Goal 2: I have been babying my ends each night with butter.

Goal 4:
Below is my starting pic and I am about 4.5 inches away from MBL.

Goal 5: I wore my hair out today at our family Christmas Lunch.

Goals:

  • Take my vitamins daily
  • Drink lots of water
  • Incorporate daily smoothies again
  • Keep hair in protective styles
  • Learn to do my own crochet braids
  • Perfect my blowout/flat iron
  • Try roller sets/flexi rod sets
  • Deep condition/wash weekly
  • Incorporate protein treatments
  • Trim an eight of an inch maybe once a season
  • No more big chops
I'll try to update everytime I take my braids down.

My 2016 hair goals:

  1. Stick to my regimen and products. They work.
  2. Find a wig and master wig wearing. I want to wear straight hair on occasion, but will never straighten my own.
  3. Baby my ends and trim them twice in 2016.
