2 Inches In 4 Months - Session 2 Of 3 - Sept, 2018 To Dec, 2018

Most of this is just a copy/paste from the APL 2018 challenge. The only new thing is the last question.

Current Length: Ear length on the sides, neck length in the back and the front touches the bridge of my nose. The crown is very short due to severe breakage and shedding at the beginning of 2017.

Regimen: Shampoo every 7 to 14 days, banana molasses treatment under a hooded dryer. I just started oil rinsing and I apply lots of conditioner afterwards. Currently using HEHH and I love it! My two go-to hairstyles are twists or two french braids. I use a lot of glycerin based products (moisturizers and gels mostly) and I seal with either pure shea butter or a shea butter mix. When I twist I keep them in for 2 weeks and when I french braid I redo them daily.

What will you do to achieve your goal:
I need to set aside a block of time to take care of my hair and be very patient and gentle with it. No ripping out knots when I can easily cut them with scissors. I need handle my hair when I'm not tired or stressed. I also need to keep my scalp healthy. I'm going to keep up with my supplements and make sure I'm eating well and staying hydrated.
Anything else you would like to share: I'm excited to see how long my hair will grow at the end of this challenge. I'm committed and ready to put in the work and enjoy the results.

I’m joining too!
1. Starting pic-DEC 31
2. Current Length- pretty sure it’s MBL
3. Regimen- alternate clay wash, cowash, and shampoo 1-2x/week; DC after every wash, alternate moisture and protein; daily tea spritz and seal with CP oil &/or Ayurvedic butter/pomade.
4. What will you do to achieve your goal- stay on top of regular dustings, keep up with bi-monthly henna treatments, no multi-day hair neglect in 2018
5. Anything else you would like to share- I find that once my hair life is all the way together, everything else falls in line too. And when things fall apart for me, my hair is the last thing to go lol. So, for a lot of us, and for myself most definitely, hair care is one of our most apparent and indulgent forms of self care. 2018 bout to be lit.
Planning to straighten my hair for pics Dec 31, Feb 28, and April 30. Listing the dates to mentally prep myself.

2. Current Length.... Uhmmm MBL very close to WL I hope!

3. Regimen: KP oils, starting whipped shea butter, 2 week min Protective styling and a whole lot of DC

4. What will you do to achieve your goal: Full WL/HL hair 2018

5. Anything else you would like to share. Not yet!
*** FULL MBL???

VERY NICE!! I would say you have about 1.5"-2" to go!! You will be WL by March-April. You are very close.

Your hair looks to be in the same spot that mine is, I might be wrong.

Great progress!!

I learned a LOT from watching this lady's regimen and listening to her commentary. I hope to incorporate some of her retention-causing moves. :yep:

A few take-aways for me:
  • She pre-detangles (separates, finger detangles, etc. so that when it's time to detangle with her wide tooth comb, it's much, much less damaging and much less time consuming).
  • She washes in twists.
  • She said that in detangling, her goal is NOT tangle-free hair. That would be fighting her hair's nature. She accepts that her hair will always have tangles. Wow. :yep: Super helpful.
  • She said that she moisturizes every other day DESPITE THE FACT THAT HER HAIR IS NOT YET DRY-FEELING. This because she doesn't want to wait until her hair feels dry to moisturize! Wow! Makes so much sense to me when I hear it aloud, but I had been moisturizing ONCE my hair felt dry. My reasoning: "Oh, my hair still feels moisturized? No need for more moisture, then." But her logic of simply moisturizing every other day -- regardless -- so as to never have to chase after moisture, makes so. much. sense.
  • She bands to dry the hair, THEN twists. Interesting.
  • She untwists to apply her protein treatment and then retwists, but she does NOT later untwist to apply her moisturizing DC but instead simply applies that DC on TOP of her twists. INTERESTING! Less manipulation, I guess??? My strategy will be slightly different but have the same aim: I will add Green Beauty Protein to my moisturizing DC so that I deep treat JUST ONCE. Thus, I'll go ahead and untwist and retwist for that (one) deep treatment.

Thank you so much for sharing this video. It was informative and valuable to me.

During my first snow day (Thursday), I did a quick length check for the front of my hair. It is now a 1/2" past my chin, while the back of my head is holding steady. I feel like I'm on the right path with my current regimen.

2. Current Length:14” nape just reaching MBL if pulled from back.
3. Regimen: Shampoo weekly in twists, dc/protein treatment, AVJ/glycerine/water spray, sealed with Shea butter mix, put into medium or large twists under my wig or bun in summer months. I clarify monthly.
4. What will you do to achieve your goal: drink more water, keep same regimen and products, dust ends quarterly
5. Anything else you would like to share: Want nape to be 17 inches by December. It’s very slow growing unlike my sides.

1. Starting pic - (I'll be back with a starting length picture (hopefully soon) ).

2. Current Length - BSL I think

3. Regimen - This is for the first part of the year, because I plan to keep my hair braided until at least March.
  • DC with heat
  • Blow dry monthly to make it easier to braid
  • braid hair
  • moisturize and seal nightly with a base layer that contains glycerin and an oil or butter
  • Visualize myself with longer hair/positive mindset towards my hair and doing it
  • Affirmations ("My hair is growing long, healthy, and strong)
  • Workout min 3x week
  • Massage scalp with growth oils min 3x week
  • baggy method (have been doing this nightly and I'm striving for at least 5x a week)

4. What will you do to achieve your goal - protective styles, baby ends, moisturize daily

5. I'm drinking Zhara's herbal tea for hair growth. Some of you may remember her from Fotki, way, way back in the day. She was my first haircrush! Curly Nikki has the recipe here: http://www.curlynikki.com/2013/11/herbal-tea-for-hair-growth-drink-rinse.html - I go to an herbalist and have it made.

NOTES regarding damage-reduction and retention maximization:

#1: Shea butter for a hair handling and tangle prevention breakthrough?
Jakeala Shea Amla Parfait over HairVeda Red Tea Heavy cream seems to allow my hair to tangle very little, even if I wear a puff for over a week.

#2: Predetangling prepoo: Best so far . . .
. . . is Shea Moisture's High Porosity Moisture Masque. Saturating my ENDS with it, letting it sink into my ends, and then applying it up the strands is a winner. EXTREMELY GENTLY elongating the strands COMPLETELY, and then and ONLY THEN finger detangling . . . seems to be an excellent predetangling method for me. This resulted in little mechanical damage. Very little. Much, much less compared to other methods.

This was my sink after predetangling (so little hair was in the sink!).

#3: No harsh detangling tools:
I plan to use the Magic Star Jumbo Rake ONLY on tomorrow when I finish wash day. (I won't use the Tangle Buster brush.) I will use it on hair that has been cleansed (Soultanicals Soulvedic poo bar or J.R. Liggetts Shampoo Bar or HairVeda something or other), DC'd (tomorrow I'll use Curl Junkie Repair Me for the first time), and saturated with Curl Junkie Smoothing Conditioner.

All of this feels so much less damaging. I may move from washing once a week or more frequently, to washing once every 10-14 days. That will be even LESS hair handling, which translates to more retention, I believe.

I thought I joined this challenge..
APL
Relaxed
Wash and deep condition 2x a week
Bun using scrunchies, hair clips
Daily scalp massages with different oils/WGO
Using Rogaine to help with hair loss
Looking to gain 2 inches for fullness
I’m in other length challenges, but that isn’t my main focus at this time. I just want my hair to be fuller and thicker.

I’m adding clay washes to my regi. I was doing clay washes a while ago when I was into MHM. I don’t think it was all of the 40 steps that improved my hair. I think it was the clay. I looked back at the pics and I compare them to now with just the clay. My hair and scalp love it!

Scurl and QB MTD Ghee is awesome! My hair is a greasy mess (I used WGO on my scalp), but it isn’t dry. I may not have to moisturize tomorrow. I haven’t used Rogaine in the last few days, but with this combo, I can get back to using it.

wash day tomorrow.
I’m really gonna make sure I get my water and vitamins in! I was down about my hair, but I’m going to get these inches in my crown and other areas!
