So since my touch up last week, my ends have been catching on themselves. I have always been scared to trim my own hair. Today I dusted my ends using scissors, a small toothed comb, 2 ponytail holders, and a hair clip. My hair now is very even and no more hair catching!!!! Instead of my stylist cutting 1/2-1 inch, I dusted very little hair and my ends are so smooth! Now if only I can learn to self relax :look:

congrats, I cant wait till i dust after my next relaxer.. it will be the 1st time, thats the only thing i've needed a salon for since i became a DIYer.. maybe read some of the threads on here regarding self relaxing, they helped me alot fix my process. i relaxed in sections the last time, and the relaxer came out excellent.

Thanks! It was really easy, I didn't follow anything special, I just did it in sections. Im scared of over processing when I self relax. I want to learn to do it so bad tho.

I didn't do anything special, no ponytails. My hair is APL in the front and BSL in the back. All I did was start in the front and work my way around my head until I got to the front on the opposite side. I would take small sections, making sure they were pretty much the same length, comb my hair from root to tip, and drag my middle and pointer fingers down the hair until I reached the very end. Then, I cut straight across. I made sure to separate the hair I already trimmed with the hair I hadn't yet trimmed. I cut very little hair, but it has made such a difference. No breakage

Oh ok~ Ima try it when I relax in two weeks if I need it. I got a mini trim last relaxer. Trying to even up my layers. Last time I dusted on my own I tried the ponytail method. But that makes me so nervous.

Ponytails are not an option for me. I think that's best for blunt cuts. I hope it goes well for you :yep:

Nice job! I wish I were brave enough to even dust my own hair. I am still at the mercy of a stylist for that.

Oh! That is a great feeling :yep:, isn’t it? Congrats!

I’m a DIYer as well. I lightly dust my ends by parting my hair down to the middle and moving my hair over my shoulders to the front over my girls…..lol, dust a little on each side, then comb it straight back and put it in a tight low ponytail, put 1 or 2 extra ponytail holders on the length of the pony so the hair won’t move or get loose, grab it to a side an cut the tip of the pony. I do this because I like a U shape better than a V :ohwell:; if you like the V, then you don’t have to do the pony thing. When I need a fresh trim, I use the CreaClip as someone posted before; of course I cannot do it by myself but I trust my boyfriend to do it for me, I really can’t go wrong with the creaclip, it gives me a precise cut in a slightly U shape, just like I like it (the pic on my avt shows the end result).

As for self-relaxing, all I need is to really base my scalp and a double mirror to get a clear view of the back. You have to give it a try, practice makes perfection…….:yep:

How do you use the CreaClip? The link was not working for me. I may try the pony to the side when my hair is more blunt. If I do that now, Ill only trim half my head LOL

I reeaally wana try self relaxing but Im so scared Im going to under process or over process. What kind of relaxer do you use?

you can google CreaClip and it'll give you all the info, the site, youtube videos of how to use it, styling guides and all.......it's very easy...:yep:

I don't relax my hair bone straight, so maybe that is a factor, if I would, I'd prob. be worry about overprocessing......:perplexed. I use ORS No-Lye.
