Do you flat iron your hair every other week regardless if your hair is still a little straight and shiney or would you push it back another week?

All replies would be helpful...

I just started straightening my hair again after over a year....but I used to get my hair straightened alot. I used to do it every 2 weeks even if it was still straight just because it needed to be refreshed or my scalp would feel like it needs to be cleansed- but thats just me because it might still look good but my scalp gets itchy at times. But of course you can push it back. I have seen people go 3 weeks or 4 without re-straightening or washing. I guess it all depends on preference.

For some people, low manipulation is the most important thing, so they'll wear their straightened hair for 3-4 weeks.

For me, moisture and a fresh, clean scalp are the most important things, so I never wear straightened hair for more than 10 days. I just feel that I need to wash and deep condition at that point.

me personally..I sweat tooooo much in my head (while I sleep) so anything str8 doesn't last 2 long on me.. However I have noticed my roommate ( a natural 3c/4a) Straightens her hair and it will last a good 3-4 weeks without a touch up..She doesn't do anything to her hair other then wrap it up and unwrap.. and maybe a moisturizer here and there..

I usally flatiron once a month (sometimes I skip).

My hair last a good two weeks. I always wash after that 2nd week although I could probably push to three weeks. I only faltiron once and never do any "touch ups" or add any bumps or curls. If it gets puffy/frizzy then oh wells, I will throw it into a bun.

Currently my hair is pressed; I got it pressed December 28th and I swear that I can get another two weeks out of this-I still have curl in my hair because I pincurl every night...Now a few of my edges have gone back but not enough for me to care to restraighten...low manipulation is important to me and I moisten my hair every day or at least every other day--
I never straighten/press/curl dirty hair...IF I restraighten my hair I will have to wash it first and start over
by the way...I have very dry scalp

I'm considering taking a trip overseas for about two weeks, and was thinking about straightening my hair so I don't have to worry about lugging hair products all over Europe. I've never stretched out a blow-out for that long. How do you guys feel about dry shampoos?

When I'm wearing flat-ironed hair--I make it last 2 weeks, which is pretty easy. I could make it go a little longer--but by the end of the second week, I just don't like the way it feels--so I wash. If I plan to wear it straight back-to-back. I'll usually wet bun for a few days to a week before the next flat iron, thus giving it about a 3+ week interim between flat irons.

Thanks for the replies ladies!

Now, when I went to a stylist that used a lot of heat when blow drying and pressing with the marcels ,I went every 3-4wks, (Mostly once a month). I have a new stylist that doesn't use a lot of heat when blow drying and presses my hair with the flat iron marcels. The 2nd week I have waves near the scalp, hair is still bouncy. The only thing is my hair makes a lot of oil, so it looks very shiney and oily. (people say it looks like a wig)

I think I might go back to every 3 wks for the low manipulation. I guess I can alternate a roller set for 2 weeks and flat iron the other 2 weeks.

I use Ojon's dry shampoo and it works well for me  Does your hair normally get oily after a few days of the press? Mine does, that's why I use dry shampoo if needed (actually any powder will work -- I've used baby powder/regular talcum powder and liked the results as well, plus it smells nice).

I normally wash every week, but if I want to go 10-14 days (primarily if I'm traveling, as you mentioned), I actually flat iron my hair more lightly. I do this because the oil from my scalp actually causes my hair to get flatter and flatter as the days go by. When I know I won't be washing at my usual 6 or 7 days, I start with a fuller look so that I don't look like a greasy rat when all is said and done. Dry shampoo helps, but it only can do so much to take out the oil.

Fantastic advice! I tend to overdo it with the serums and heat protectants when I straighten, but it's never that much of an issue because I wash and go back to curly 6 days later. Now I know to go easy on that stuff to preserve the style and I'll definitely check out the Ojon. Thanks!
