Hey ladies,

Im currently using JOICO K-PAK line for the first time and my hair has become very dry and hard.... is this normal when using this product? Or am i doing something worry? BTW, this is the second time using this product to wash my hair and im 14 weeks post.

TIA,
Trinistarr

I haven't used the products, but I've used other protein/strengthening product lines and when my hair began to get hard and dry, I knew that meant that my hair was getting too much protein.

I'm still a newbie so I'm sure others will chime in with a more detailed explanation, however I believe K-Pak is heavy protein. If your doesn't need protein at the moment then using this will cause it to feel dry and brittle. You should try using some moisturizing products like a CON & dc. I have K-Pak too, but I only use like once a month and I DC with a moisturizing con afterwards.

A possibility is that this Line may be too much protein for You, sounds like there may be a little overload, My suggestion is to do a moisturizing DC, try doing a strand test before You choose which one You will be using between the Protein or the Moisture Products, You may have already been balanced and went a little too much the other way or Your hair may not be able to stand too much Protein, but in any case its up to You to decipher whats needed at the time, being as though You can feel Your hair and assess what it may need........HTH

What exact products are you using in the K-Pak line? How are you using them (how long are leaving them in)?

Is the K-Pak deep moisture a protein conditioner as well? I used it for the first time last night but there is a lot of keratin in the ingredients.

IA Taz:yep:: This all factors in to the 'results' we get from various products. We try to make products be/do something they were not intended to do/be.

We leave them in longer than the intended directions, we try to change the purpose of it etc.....(not saying you did this OP). :yep:

But it's been known to happen more often or not, and then we say the product didn't work for us, but we used it wrong. Or we mixed it or we slept in it etc.....:ohwell:

But with K-Pak, I would probably follow up with and DC with Moisture Recovery or Intense Hydrator. To Replenish My Moisture Level

Did you DC after you used it? How did you leave it in?

K-Pak only needs five minutes. If you left it in longer, you might have a bit of an overload. Also, you MUST DC after it.

I've been using Joico Kpak exclusively for about 4 months now. I find that the K-pak line if used in totality is a great balance of protein and moisture. We would need to know more about what products in the line you used and how you used them before assumptions can be made on whats going on with your hair.

Thanks ladies for you all feedback. However, to answer all questions...

@taz007...I am using the K-Pak Poo/Cond and Deep Penerating Recon. I wash first with the poo and then deep cond with the conditioner for 15-20 mins with heat and wash out and rollerset.

@LisaLisa1908....Yes, i do DC after my wash and i dc for about 15-20 mins.

Lastly, after reading all comments, i think i am going to cut down on using my JOICA K-pak Every week.

Thanks again ladies for your help in this matter.

I think this is the problem. You are not using an intense/deep moisturizer after you use the reconstructor. The k-pak conditioner is not a moisturizing condtioner (well at least for me its not) nor is it a deep conditioner and the Deep penetrating reconstructor is...well a reconstructor, that should be followed up by a deep moisturizing treatment. I like using the Joico K-pak Intense hydrator after I use the recontructor. Actually I use the intense hydrator after I use the reg k pak conditioner also (For me the k pak conditioner is a mild protein conditioner).

I HTH!!!!

ITA with Charmtreese. This is the mistake. You cannot leave K-Pak in for 15-20 minutes. You must leave it in for the time stated in the directions.

I also use the Intense Hydrator as my final step. :yep:

I brought joico about a month ago and I have been using it weekly, I use the k-pak poo and cond but I follow up with Intense Hydrator, Elasta QP DPR-11 or Nexxus Humectress for more moisture. I only use the deep penetrating reconstructor every 2wks.

This. Joico really works. You don't have to do a whole lot of extra too it or with it.

That`s weird! Ive never had a problem with Joico- I actually LOVE them. Try changing some other things up in your regimen to try & figure out if it the K=Pak or something else.

IA with the previous posters...the Joico line is one of the few lines that work best when the you adhere to the directions...

Trial and Error...:)

By the way ladies, if you have a Trade Secret near you, STOCK UP! Joico is on a mega sale and the gift sets with shampoo, conditioner, and treatment (depending on the line) are $10!
