I was looking at my hair and was sad that I haven't even accomplished phase II of my length goal (APL). But then I remembered what my hair was like back when I first started and realized how long I have come.

These are the things I had always wanted to be able to do with my hair pre-LHCF
1. Have free flowing hair
2. Have hair long enough to get stuck in my hair stuck in my purse handle:look::grin:
3. Have a full pony tail that I can pack from the back.
4. I love shaking my hair and having it smack me in the face.

What are your list of things you've accomplished but yet just realized. Think hard ladies and go back to those scary starting pictures.:grin::grin::grin:

I was just looking at old hair pics this week. My sides which were severely broken off last year have grown back and as a result my hair looks thicker.

I just wish I was APL. Thats my final goal.

See siggy....

I made it all the way to Full SL when I had a setback. I couldve been at least APL by now.
Every time I think about it, I get mad.

I just made it to SL tonight for the SECOND time in my life. Now if I can just get past my shoulders again.

Before LHCF and BHM, I had hair that was an inch all the way around, with plenty of bald spots from ripping my hair out with glue and not giving a damn.

Ive been lurking for over a year.
I've went from APL to close to MBL before last week's haircut.
Now I'm transitioning. I've wanted to be natural for so long, but I never thought I would have the guts to go through with it.

The sides of my hair and especially the crown are much thicker and fuller. When i last blowdried my hair I was blown away by the thickness of my hair!! So even though I may not be APL just yet I know how much healthier and thicker my hair is

For the longest, I've never been able to get my hair beyond this length:

That's my first hair shot ever (before I mastered the art of taking self hair pics). I was my own worst hair enemy, getting frustrated and chopping it off. It was always dull, dry and frizzy. My most recent length shot is in my sig. Still haven't reached my final goal, but I think I've made a lot of progress :)

My sides are thicker, I am almost SL again(sigh) actually I am grazing the very top of my shoulder. I actually have had hair get caught in the strap of by purse so it maybe longer:grin:, I'm not measuring until 12/31.

I had surgery in November 2007 and the medication I was on broke my hair off something awful and I was still having side effects in 08. This year things got a lot better so I am back on track. Hopefully I will reach of at least 1/2 meet my goal of BSL by 12/2010. The only heat my hair will be seeing 95% of the time will be from by dryer so hopefully it will help.

My hair has much more health and strength now...it used to be that whenever a good wind blew, I'd literally lose hair. It'd just detach itself from my head and fly away. :nono:

And my ends aren't see through anymore. My hair used to be top of ear, and even at that length, my ends were tore up...you could read a book through them. I'm not happy with the thickness of my hair still, but it's much better than it was.

I think when I can finally pull my hair over my shoulders and have all of it stay there, I'll do a jump for joy. :yep:

Good thread, OP!

I have been on my hair journey for two years. From January - August I took a hiatus. I was a pregnant and couldn't care less about my hair. So I'm not surprised that I haven't gotten to my hair goal which is BSB natural. Right now my hair is SL natural, straighten it is APL. However, this is the healthiest my hair has ever been. It thicker and my ends feel great. But I am back in the game hard and ready for some serious hair growing and retention. 2010 is going to be a great year for my hair.

Well I'm only APL. And my goal is MBL. When I feel discourage, I remind myself that my hair was dry, unhealthy and really uneven. My right side was a good 3inches longer than the left side for years. Now my hair is healthy and even now. The rest should be smooth sailing.

I would like it thicker & a lot more healthy/entire length. (And of course longer)

Happy Hair Growing!

Before LHCF and BHM, I had hair that was an inch all the way around, with plenty of bald spots from ripping my hair out with glue and not giving a damn.

I also made full SL just to have a setback due to braids w/ kanekalon hair (my ends weren't braided up and I got breakage. Thinned my ends out badly and I lost about an inch.). I started doing BKT's and that has helped, but I braided my hair again, because every time I looked at my ends, i got the urge to cut back to NL.

I am glad I did accomplish full SL, and I am going to try to get to APL by next summer.

I'm glad that I am 2 months post in my transition (that's a huge deal to me, and every month I make without relaxing is another goal met).

finally, my edges are growing back .

My ends aren't breaking off anymore. When I touch my hair, those little bits aren't found in the sink or on my shoulders. My hair is thicker (which isn't so much a plus since my hair is naturally thiiick) but it can now withstand heat like nobody's business. And I can handle my own ng. No more running to the salon afraid of my own hair!

I still have breakage but not as much as I had before. My hair isn't as dry and brittle as it used to be. When I used to do my nightly routine of wrapping my hair at night before LHCF, my sink and bathroom floor would be covered in small broken hairs. I'm no where near my goal length (BSL), but I am glad that half of my hair no longer ends up on the floor, on my shirt, in my food etc.

My hair used to be so horribly uneven and if I parted it just right, you could literally see places where it was 3-4 inches shorter due to breakage from wearing TIGHT ponytails round the clock (yes even to bed :nono:). I also used heat EVERY day and the only thing I ever put on it was serum, so basically I was coating extremely dry, unconditioned hair with cones :nono: so my ends were atrocious!

Now my hair is much MUCH healthier and thicker at the ends :yay:

Now if I could only break the SL-APL curse

Supermodel Sonya I have noticed the great progress in your siggy. It looks like two different heads of hair. I'm sure you will make all your goals in due time if your progress is a measure of the potential of your healthy hair growing practices. Keep up the good work!

I did not gain as much length as I would have liked to. However, I think that I accomplished my 2009 goal of reaching APL (not full of course).

Also, I have gotten better at styling my curly hair so I will probably begin to wear it down more--even to work! :)

Since I found LHCF, I've stopped wearing tight ponytails. That has been one of the best things I've learned. My nape is now growing like nobody's business. The hair at the very edges of my nape is still only about 6" now, but that's about 5" longer than it was! My sister always told me "That's just how your hair is", and for some dumb reason, I never associated the ponytails with the short nape. :nono: Now that I know better, I don't even wear ponytails at all, cuz I know I'll be tempted to pull it tight. I know as it grows, my hair will look much thicker in the back and my ends won't look thin when I wear my hair down.

I've been on this HHJ for a while and I have yet to meet my goal length of BSL. I've had a few major setbacks. Then there were times where I stayed too long with a regimen or products that really didn't work for me, but because they were popular I continued with them. However through it all my hairs health has transformed and while I have not met my goal, the journey has been soooo fun, uplifting, hard, trying and worth while!!!

I'm banking on 2010 to be my year as well!

My goal for the year was BSL (looking back, it was impossible), and I didn't reach that, but I am full APL now (when I started last May I was NL), and I plan on self-relaxing this week for the first time. If that is a success, I will be very proud of my progress and what I've learned this year.

I get my hair caught in lots of places now. Purse straps, food, my mouth, other people's mouths...

I like seeing how long my shed hairs are now compared to how long I was used to seeing them be for years (now they seem to go on forever lol).

After I wash my hair feeling it on my back is nice.

I can do unassisted buns with single clips and ponytail holders now. When I use a clip, I don't have to divide my hair and shape it in opposite directions so it will all fit. I can take it all in one direction and twist and it still fits easily. When I use a ponytail holder, I can just twist the bun in one direction not once, but twice(!!!) and place the ponytail holder on top, and everything stays put!

I am finishing off my longest stretch ever, at 4 months now (can't foresee myself going longer in the future, but it was a nice accomplishment).

Well I have been stuck around BSL for about 2 years now, it's a decent length so I'm not complaining but my goal is WL. My hair was about APL before joining but I have learned alot.

1) I learned that my natural hair has curls, I really didn't realize this
2) I have learned how to style my hair w/o heat
3) I am finding the benefits of using natural products
4) I got rid of the damaged ends I had from coloring and flat ironing
5) The biggest thing I learned: Don't jump on every bandwagon, find what works and sticks w/it (now that I know what works I think I will reach my goal by the end of next year)

Great thread, OP....It is so important to be thankful for what we already have, while we heading toward our goals.

In Dec. 2005, my broken nape was an average of 3" long, the result of relaxer and heat damage. The rest of my hair, which reached between NL and SL, was damaged as well. Six months later (July 1, 2006) I began my HHJ, which included transitioning from relaxed to texlaxed and removing direct heat totally from my regimen.

Now, my hair is thick and healthy, and my nape is as long as the rest. When I touchup in December, I should have some strands at WL, and I plan to reach full WL, my final goal, in July 2010...my 4-year haircare anniversary. Thank God for LHCF!!!

I've made tremendous progress, particularly in health and thickness, but I just want my hair to be long enough so that no matter what I do to it it looks long KWIM?

I want to be able to be confident that when I put it in a LOOSE ponytail that the pony is long enough to be attractive.
