I have been reading a lot about Giovanni products...where can I get these products? Do i have to go to Ulta or something?

I found them in Duane Reade and target started carrying giovanni too!
Of course places like whole foods...

It's so interesting that you'd say that. The ingredients remind me of Kiyafizzle :yep:

Spring Water and (Dead) Sea Water , Silt (Dead Sea Mud) , Magnesium Chloride , Matricaria Recutita (Chamomile) Extract , Cetrimonium Chloride , Jojoba Oil , Olive Oil , Calendula officinalis Oil , Almond Oil , Carrot Seed Oil , Carrot Juice , Organic Extracts of: Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, Melon, Orange & Honey , Fragrance , Dimethicone , Wheat Germ Oil , Imidazolidinyl Urea

There is probably salt in the silt too...
Very interesting...
what? Salt.......NOOOOO:wallbash::lachen:

Welll maybe its different than table salt and with all the other stuff in it too

I dunno but it felt good, still have it in my hair , still feels good

Cream of Nature Moisturizing Detangling Conditioning Shampoo.

It really helped me take out the matts, knots, and tangles in my mothers 4 type hair.

These two NEVER fail me....

ORS REPLEN Conditioner
AO HOneysuckle Rose

Also, I still have the original CON poo that detangles well too

I 2nd the marshamallow or other mucilaginous herbs such as slippery elm. Knot Today and KCCC have these in the ingredient profile.

Detangling starts before I even attempt to rinse/co-wash my hair. Putting a good leave-in or styler in my hair keeps my hair from getting too tangled. Also, I stretch my hair out prior to letting the water hit it. Water on shrunken hair is a disaster in the making.

Nature's Gate Organics Fruit Blends has some decent detanglers.
Cheap route - VO5 conditioners are good detanglers.
ETA: Nature's Gate hemp nourishing, Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose, Island Naturals

ETA: I do not believe hair type is as significant when discussing detanglers. Density, texture, porosity is more important than curl diameter.

When I was natural and even now texlaxed 4a/b with fine strands that tangle once wet. I found that I had to (absolutely had to) detangle before I shampoo, then wet hair and let the water run down the strand, not putting the hair on top of my head and then I apply shampoo to the scalp and let that run down with the water. Sometimes I let the shampoo sit for a few minutes and then continue. I love these products for detangling and keepin the hair smooth, cuticle layer flat:

Keracare Humecto Conditioner
Redken Smooth down Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave in

These work for me better than anything else I've ever tried and believe me I tried many many things natural and processed shampoos and conditioners and butters. I use Castor oil, Jojoba oil and little vitamin E to lock in moisture once I apply my leave in. Generally I don't lose a lot of hair after my deep condition and during styling. But it's about trial and error to find the best products for your hair type. LHCF has helped me find the best products for my own hair. :)

There is nothing wrong with being curious and asking what people with a similar texture to your own use!

Most of the ladies here regardless of type or the way they choose to style their hair are very informed and I value all of your knowledge and opinions when it comes to hair :yep:

There is nothing wrong with admitting that there may be some differences between different hair types though.
Especially something like detangling.

How can texture not affect detangling? You're working with different shaped hair with different properties.

There is a difference between detangling type 1 hair and type 3 hair for instance.

There will sometimes be differences in detangling type 3 and 4.

It's a rational chain of thought. I don't ONLY listen to people with the same hairtype as me, but sometimes you want to hear what others with YOUR HAIR TYPE are using and doing. I read practically every post on this board  I'm not "discriminating" I'm not that type of person.

I've also seen plenty threads that ask specific groups questions... relaxed, natural, BKT'd, type 3 support, type 4 support, texturized.. There are several active threads asking for specific input up right now too!

I don't see how I offended anyone. Sorry if you (or anyone else) feels that way!

(I will remember not to put type 4 into my titles in the future, cuz people seem not to like it! lol)

ETA: I tried the aloe + water. It didn't give me any extra slip :( but it didn't make my hair hard like I thought it might!

I will be trying more things on wash day. and the coming weeks. :yep:

Hey Neith, the point is that the aloe and water are good basics hold moisture and great to detangle hair when you are going to shampoo or deal with your twists. However, if you are looking for slip then you have to go for a moisturiser product as some of the ladies have suggested. As I said I use the aloe and water to comb my hair gently each day in sectioned off twists and then use a light moisturiser/sealant.

In the end, different things definitely work for different people and it's a trial and error.

Best,
Almond Eyes

I didn't mean it like that Neith. I have no problem with your title or requesting type 4s. I know curl diameter impacts shrinkage but when I reviewed the thread...so many of the things listed didn't work at all for my dense, low porosity, coarse in strand diameter, 4a section. I wrote the comment trying not to balk at most of the suggestions listed. I know everything doesn't work for everyone but saying "most of this ish did not work for me and made it worse" isn't quite hair board PC. :spinning:

Yep, educated guesses (based on my knowledge of ingredients and my hair texture) and trial and error, is usually what it boils down to for me.

I get you. :lachen: I know everything suggested here isn't going to work, but I'll keep looking and trying things until I find it. I just needed some direction.

I'm not natural but I am a 4a long term stretcher and detangling is notoriously difficult during stretching and transitioning. I've found that DCing on dry hair, oil rinsing, and Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner really really helps. I remember last month I oil rinsed for the first time in a long time and kicked myself for falling off, because it was the business for real. I didn't even need to use a comb, honestly. :infatuated: The Oyin HH is just ridiculously good at melting out those knots and tangles. DCing on dry hair helps the hair absorb the conditioner or treatment much better than if it were wet, thus more behaved hair.

ORS replenishing conditioner. Sunsilk Hyra TLC, or the one for frizz free curls.

Cantu leave in, but I stopped using it.

be careful with the suave and really look at those ingredients most people love it cause its good for cowashing but there's even a thread on here about the ingredients of it along with the vo5. With that said, personally I've been natural almost 5 years and NOTHING has detangled my thick coils like aubrey organics gbp. I lovvvvvvvvvve it I deep condition with it with a plastic bag for 15-30minutes and rinse and OMG girrrrrrrl it leaves your hair tangle free for so long. If your hair doesn't like protein I've heard great things about giovanni direct leave in or elasta qp dpr 11. Also mane and tail detangler is popular among us naturals but haven't used that either. Usually after deep conditioning greg juice and some oil to seal does it for me.

I tried that once, but was turned off by the smell. :nono: I might try it again, though. :yep: I'm like you - I like my regimen and I have pretty solid staple products, but I love tweaking it for maximum effect. :yep:
Sorry the smell put you off.:ohwell:
From what I have gathered people are really divided on the aroma - for some it's horrible for others (myself included) it's great!
It's a shame you didn't like it 'cos its a nice product.

Neith, what did you end up using? As my 4b hair is growing longer, I'm having a hard time with detangling after washing. Please advise.

I am too in search of a good conditioner. But I will say, I tried the Senscience CPR, maybe two months ago, and AMAZING!

I plan to stop at a local Ulta, and hopefully find it.

I haven't read through everything just yet. But the best thing you can use to keep away tangles it to make sure you don't have split ends. If so trim them or mend them. (I know you say how do you mend them. But I'm natural and keeping my hair flat ironed for a few weeks help keep them straight so they don't tangle)

Pretty much what happens is when you're combing or trying to untangle your hair it sounds like paper ripping which is a sign you have a problem with your ends. (Believe me you'll know if it's happening)

Then, finding a good conditioner like Pantene's leave in hair mask that has a lot of slip. (Be careful it will make your tubs very slippery if not cleaned immediately.)

Once you rid yourself of the bad ends you'll see that untangling should be painless and keeping the hair stretched should help too.

VO5 or Suave conditioner, they work even better with some added castor oil.
If I'm not going to rinse afterwards, shealoe is the best.

I ended up using V05 :giggle:

Right after I finish DCing, I put the V05 on right on top. It doesn't melt the tangles away, but the comb glides through much better. I lose next to nothing in the comb. So, I guess I'm happy :yep:

Oh Thanks. Whats the entire name of the VO5? Got to make sure I pick up the right stuff.

BTW, yesterday I mixed KNOT TODAY ( 1 tsp ) with 1 cup of water in a spray bottle and it was like combing through butter.

Im using V05 tea therapy. Had a few bottles in the house already. Moisture milks also worked well.

I was thinking about knot today for use as a leave in! :yep: Heard nothing but good stuff about that product.
