Can someone please post a simple way to use these powders and which ones should be used together so I can get rid of them?
I see so many recipes that I get confused as to which ones are conditioning or cleansing.

Mix any powders you like (I use 100g amla, 100g brahmi & 100g shikakai) in a big bowl. Add coconut oil to taste (I use about 4 ozs (?)). Add any cowash conditioner you like (I use VO5 or Suave, about 64 ozs). Add conditioner to consistency that you like (I like conditioner consistency -not too thick, not too runny). MIX WELL. Bottle (I use the conditioner bottles that I just used in my mix) & refrigerate.

This amount lasts me between 4 -6 months (that's why I use sooo much powder & condish). I just transfer some to an applicator bottle (with the pointy tip - about $1.50 at Sally's) so that I can apply directly to my scalp.

SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING.

I wash my hair with this mixture twice a week. My hair loves it. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.

For me, mixing the powders is strangely therapeutic. I love mixing them togther to get that next perfect mix that would leave me oooohing and ahhhing like a kid with a new toy:grin:! That's just me though. Some people like eggs, mashing avocados, whipping butters, etc, I like mixing ayurveda powders and oils:yep:.

I love having a spa hair day put aside just for my hair with these powders. I don't do it every week but maybe every other week to 3 weeks or so when I am not in extension braids. I look forward to this day with my hair:yep:.

I'm with you Aggie. I'm an Engineer, but I think that I've discovered my inner Chemist. I love making the various mixtures and seeing the results in the hair. It's like a living experiment. And it soothing too! :yep:

I do like eggs, mayo, shampoo bar ,but I have ALOT of powders I need to use up. I really just been too lazy. I need to at least use these things up before they go bad. How are you guys pre mixing everything? just refrigeration?

ITA @ the bolded:yep:.

Not tired yet. I mix:

1 teaspoon brahmi
1/2 teaspoon amla
1 cup hot water

let it sit over night
jump in the shower
wet hair
pour over my head
let sit
rinse
deep condish while in the shower
rinse
and I am finished.

use a leave in and seal with oil.

Just recently I poured my tea in a spay bottle and saturated my roots and hair, massaged my scalp and let sit for 30 min. Rinse, co-wash, and condition, and I am finished.

I have temporarily.
I have to buy some empty tea bags and put the powders in those to make it easier.
I'm also going to try the ayurvedic shampoo bar from chagrin valley because i'm all about consolidating products!

I still love henna, and when I get some extra cash I will be stocking up, and I use vatika and amla oils in my prepoos sometimes...as for the amla and neem and shikakai powders, I gave up on that due to extreme laziness. I still have a barely used box of each under my cabinet just taunting me!

I loving my powers , oils and henna, I mixed it up easiely put everything together then save the rest for my next treatment. In the beginning it was a lot of work , I just made it simple , by mixing early, I henna weekly for coniditioner , I relax for about and hour under heating cap then wash out. My hair is really getting healthy. Last thing the products are cheaper and I can buy from the indina stores here. I realy getting rid of all that old BSS stuff I not using.

I haven't used them in a long time because I usually wear braids underneath my wig. I do not want to risk a setback dealing with powders getting stuck braids, because i wash and DC with my braids still in.

i add 2 teaspoons of amla powder to my deep conditioner every friday. This lazy method works for me...it saves me a lot of time. I dont see me stoping anytime soon.

Here is what I did, I purchased a small and cheap coffee pot and I use the powder right in there and then save my rinse. I never like the thick paste option so this works out perfect for me and I bottle it up, label and stick in the back of the fridge. This when I'm ready for a rinse I can just use it, instead of having to mix and strain and all that jazz otherwise I would be done with it too.

Also, I purchased the Ayurvedic Bar from Chagrin Valley... haven't use it yet

Maybe that will help some ladies who are tired of the 'process' of using the powders because the benefits are there... well at least for me and my hair.

I used a coffee pot, too :look: I just got tired of waiting for it to cool and I really didn't see a definite benefit in using the powders.

Oh this sounds ,'less lazy.' When you do this, do the powders dissolve in the conditioner after shaking it up? I will try this tonight.

I love experimenting with powders!!! Seriously I do!!! I find them more exciting than average deep conditioners and reconstructors. I've just received 31 boxes of Amla, I can't wait to rip a bag open tomorrow and get to mixing... I'll stop typing now lol

Love my 'Veda treatments, but I feel you on the prepping. But I found a trick that works for me. A lot of ayurvedic powders are strengthening, and some even contain protein. My hair feels really strong after an ayurvedic treatment, so I use them instead of protein treatments, every two weeks alternating with my moisturizing DC's. I keep it simple, I just mix my powders with boiling hot water, apply to my hair, leave on for an hour or so, and I'm done. I also made a list of the powders and the benefits they have on hair, so I can mix powders that complement one another together.

I LOVE playing mixtress!! :woot:

No, not at all. I love mixing up some Ayurvedic herbs. I still need to try them in my conditioner, am sure this will make rinsing time much, much shorter.

Do you use a moisturizing conditioner afterwards?....are you cowashing with this or letting it sit for a while before rinsing?

I want to cut down my wash day time too....when I don't feel like mixing I just use the poo bar...

I love dabur vatika but last winter coconut oil was a  nono so I have said good bye to it for now and switched to my beloved JBCO with camelia oil :blush:. I had to stop using the powders, it wasn't the effort it was the fact that I couldn't wash it out!!! Then I started straining it and it was just too much so I started added powders and oils to my henna treatment. The thing is now I think I need to lay off the henna! My hair has gone from fine to borderline coarse:wallbash:!! I have been hennaing every other week since July. So I guess in short like some others I have significantly backed off especailly since I'm not washing as often this winter.

Hey GuudHair!

I use this as a cowash. I don't let it sit. I do, however, wash three times with this mixture. I follow with a dc everytime. The only time I don't use this mixture is once a month when I'm going to henna. Then I use a clarifying shampoo - Pantene at the moment - because I want nothing between my hair and the henna. My henna mixture does not contain conditioner so I dc after that also.

I have a neem, kalpi tone, fenugreek seed and amla tea rinse in my hair. I'm about to wash it out right now.

Yea I have, I got tired of prepooing with them, but I might get back on the powder bandwagon, but I honestly didn't see results like some people did.

The powder dissolves in the conditioner easily. i add the powder to the conditioner and mix it up with a spoon. And if you want to add oil to your conditioner with the powder make sure you add the oil to the conditioner first mix those two together before you add the powder if you dont do it that way it takes longer for the powder to dissolve for some reason.

I did because it was taking up alot of my time on the weekends and I really think Joico K-pak is working much better for my fine hair, cost more but I love it.

Update on the bolded: The Neem powder cooperated well with the other powders. For some reason, I was thinking it would be drying but it wasn't. It wasn't bad at all actually.
