How has your hair thrived? Keeping it simple or do you have to do a lot?

For me its been K.I.S.S...when I first started lurking on this site around March 2008...I was so overwhelmed and just tried everything. By April I had it down and realized that simplicity is the key for me. My hair grew from a pixie cut to full SL in about a year and 2 months...its almost APL to date. I find that when I do too much...my hair just gives up and goes "plefft" for lack of a better word.

How about ya'll?

Simplicity is best for me. My hair thrives when I put it in a weave, spray moisturizer on it daily and leave it for a couple months (without even washing :look:). So, I'm going back to that.

I'm lazy, so I don't like having a lot of steps or different products anyway. I'm most likely to be consistent when I make things easy on myself.

After many setbacks:wallbash: I have finally learn that KISS is what works best for my hair:yep:. Now that my main focus is on the health of my hair I'm achieving the length. So, for me KISS works, and NO more jumping on bandwagons for me.

I honestly think it really depends on the individual. For me, K.I.S.S yields the best results as I’m able to remain consistent with this kind of regimen (due to laziness).

My below regimen is simple for me to do and works well (currently transitioning to natural in braids);

- Moisturize with Qhemet Biologics’s Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm & Qhemet Biologics’s Burdock Root Butter Cream, seal with Black Jamaican castor & Jojoba oil (every day).

-Once a week; Pre-poo, wash with a shampoo bar, steam DC for 40min-1 hours, final rinse with ACV and apply Oyin Honey-Hemp Conditioner as a leave-in then seal with oil.

- I use Joico K-pak Liquid Reconstructor when I feel the need and clarify in the same manner.

K.I.S.S. I've even cut down on my wash 'n gos. I just keep my hair stretched in twists at night and wear a bun during the day. That has really cut down on my need to co-wash everyday. My hair is responding positively to it so far.

KISS for me! I pretty much do the exact same thing the previous ladies posted. I just cornrow my hair under my wig once a month, and spritz it every day in the morning and at night before going to bed, and co wash 2x a week. I take it out once a month to clarify, do a protein treatment, deep condition and rebraid. Fuss-free works for me!!

Lol, me too msa.....I leave my weave in for 3-4 months at a time and I'm soooooo lazy I don't like washing it either. I'm however forced to wash at a maximum wait time of 3 weeks cause I work-out 5 days a week......and I mean strenuous work-out so by week three if I don't wash my hair the smell will knock me out, lol.........I know, I know:spinning:

The only thing about a KISS regimen is that many that claim to have a KISS regimen don't...

I can't tell u how many ppl that say they have a KISS regimen, but use soooo many diff products and do sooo many diff things to their hair...

That's so true.

Simple means different things to different people. And very few people like to admit they have a "complicated" regimen. But hey, if it works for them, it works.

I think most people would see more success if they simplified their routine, or their products, or both.

Lol, that may be true. I guess it would help if people actually mentioned what they did.

As of a couple of weeks ago, my regimen is this:

Co-wash every 4 days
Seal with shea butter
Put hair in 2-4 large twists
Bun when going out
DC whenever I feel like it with whatever I have around the house (honey/oils/keratin mist that I'm trying to use up)

I do plan to buy some Giovanni's to co-wash with and to leave in but that's it.

So true at the bold. While my regi may seem more "complicated" than others it's the simplest and cheapest regi that works for me!! I can't get into pre-pooing, henna, and the other stuff, or anything outside of the basics of cleansing, moisturizing and protecting my hair. It's worked so far, as I've had no set backs.

Which leads to me question, at what point is a person's K.I.S.S. regimen too simple where they begin to experience setbacks? Or what exactly causes setbacks? Simple regimens, neglect or complicated regimens?

It really depends on the person.

For example, Lunademiel cowashes everyday and that's it. Super simple. I tried that and my hair started looking crazy on the ends.

I don't think a regimen can be "too simple", it just depends on what works for the person. If you don't know your hair well and the things it needs, then you'll end up with a setback whether your regimen is simple or complicated.

Now, neglect is another thing. Neglecting the hair means different things depending on the person as well. In my case, if I try to wear a shrunken fro everyday, sleep on it loose, and avoid detangling, that's neglect. But when I put in a weave for a couple of months and only spray moisturizer on, that's benign neglect. I don't have to do a lot, but I'm meeting the needs of my hair (protection, keeping it stretched, and moisture).

It's all individual. You just have to know what works for you, be it simple or complicated. I think most people get into problems when instead of learning about hair, and their hair specifically, they just jump in and buy a bunch of products and try a bunch of techniques because they worked for others.

Well keeping it simple works for me, but my simple may be someone else's complicated.

I pre-poo with a hot oil treatment or protein
Shampoo
Deep Condition w/ moisture
Add my leave ins and Rollerset

I do this every week and my hair has thrived. It's only when I started addding additional things did I have a setback.

I stick to what works for me no matter how complicated or simple it is to someone else.

IA: My "Simple" Might Be Your Complicated and Vice Versa.:look:

However, I'd like to think I keep a detailed, yet very simple weekly Regimen.

Mine is simple. I normally wash twice a week. I alternate between a baby shampoo and a medicated shampoo. I moisturize and seal with oil. I then normally slick my hair back and wear it in a bun, or hanging down my back in a braid. I rarely use heat, when I do it's post relaxer. I sometimes rollerset if I want my hair straight on the week that is not post relaxer. I stretch for 12 weeks plus. It works for me. I think it's pretty KISS :)

When I started my hair journey, I was like many ladies here, overwhelmed with all the knowledge and countless products that were discussed on the board, that I became a PJ in a heart beat and wanted to do everything:drunk:.

Just recently, I decided to scale down my products and my regimen and now as time progresses, it has been getting simpler and simpler and this pleases me....a lot:spinning:.

I now know what works and what doesn't and have been concentrating my efforts on keeping a close eye on how my hair responds to products. No more jumping on every band wagon there is for me.

I am discovering that keeping it simple is way better for me now:yep:.

LOL, :lachen:I'm cracking up laughing just because as I stated pre-pooing was my complicated, you stated it's your simple. Don't get me wrong I've pre-pooed before and I really liked it, but just can't incorporate it into my regimen. And I'm sure others can say the same about things in my regimen. I guess it's really funny to me because pre-pooing is a simple act/idea to do for me, but it isn't something my hair needs (at least not now). I absolutely mean no harm at all it's just funny because you can truly see in this thread that it's different strokes for different folks. Everything's left up to interpretation.

I have a complicated kiss:blush:, The steps in my reggie are simple but the products and stuff i use i guess makes it complicated. And as long as my hair is healthy and growing this works for ME.

Right now many different methods as I think its a part of the learning my hair process and also because its the first time in my adulthood that I am even paying attention to my hair and not a hairdresser but I am looking for my KISS regimen!!!

KISS all the way. I used to cowash everyday and then bun but now I cowash once week and then rollerset. The rest of the week I just wear a ponytail. I can't be bothered with complicated things.

I guess I do too (at the bold)!! Anything more or less, I'm scared of risking a set back (hence my question that MSA wonderfully explained). I've been doing what I'm doing now since I chopped and my hair is thriving, so I don't want to fix something that's not broken.

Everyone will say simple, but what's "simple" to one person is not simple to everyone. On more than one occasion I've seen people refer to their regimen as "simple" and it definitely didn't sound simple to me.

KISS !! I cowash weekly with kiya fizzle added to my nature's gate conditioner and lately I've been moisturizing with smooth n shine curl activator gel, putting my hair in a bun and that's it. I baggy several nights a week and I may add some more product and some aloe juice to my ends as needed. So I feel like a KISS queen!!

That is funny, but I just use the pre-poo to get that oil or protein in, that's it. It just saves me time and I don't have to do it during the week.

K.I.S.S,I condition wash/deep condition for 30-40 mins 2 times a week under a heat cap
moisturize and seal and i bun 5 days a week.

Ok so explain to me please the protein pre-poo. I use Aphogee 2 step protein treatment once a month, applying it to wet hair. And I'm not sure what's wrong but when it drips on my skin it feels like it's burning or itching really bad. I don't like sitting under the dryer because my hair is too big and I don't like it sticking to the inside of the dryer. I've been wanting to try a different form of protein because I'm experiencing more negatives with it. But as I've stated it's been working thus far and I'm hesitant to change it and have a set back. Oh and I used to spritz daily with the aphogee leave-in conditioner but that only took me a week to realize it wasn't going to work.
