Im alittle disappointed. 2 yrs ago I was just learning how to wash my hair myself after years of going to the salon every 1 to 2 weeks to get my hair done. I didn't know ANYTHING about co-washing, the drying effects of shampoo, moisturizing daily, etc. I remember being very concerned at times but my hairdressers would only tell me to put Biosilk in my hair every day and come to them everyweek. They didnt even dc really. It makes me somewhat annoyed and sad to think they were trying to get more money out of a kid/teen instead of teaching them how to take care of themselves on their own out of fear that theyd lose customers. :nono::wallbash:

So Ive learned alot and my hair has become fuller and has more elasticity. But it's hard for me to get past a few inches past APL. When I look back I didnt know what moisturizer to use, and I'd wait FOREVER to get a trim, so my hair prolly looked shorter than it should have been due to the splits. I dont really know that much of a difference from a year ago, which annoys me. I should have BSL by now- I didnt really use heat at all. I'd roller set and air dry, and Id dc everyweek and protein every other. I cant figure out why Im not getting past APL. My only guess is the trims. But I just got a trim right before my last relaxer, and two weeks later my ends look splitsy again. From what I dunno- it may be because I ran out of time and used a round brush and blow dryer. im gonna say that's why because I'd hate to say that healthy hair practices are not working for me. So yeah...it was the round brush that I used twice...

Next time this year will be 2 years for me with this regimen. I am very happy with the health of my hair. I do pull my hair out by hand. It's something I've been doing for a while now. When I get nervous or anxious I pull my hair out. I also rub my hair a lot because I'm in love with the thickness. The length was going great until recently the length has not been so great like I thought it would be. I went to the doctor yesterday and I think I know why. I have low blood pressure. My heart isn't pumping like it should so that could account for the lack of circulation that's needed to get the blood to my scalp. So physical heath is most important with me right now.

I have learnt so much from this forum in regards to hair care that I don't even go to a salon. I am mad that when I was going and my hair was breaking my stylist did not mention anything about protein/moisture balance so I was not given any protein treatments this imo would of stopped my breakage.

I believe I started my hair care journey in Oct of 06. I am at full BSL now but my hair look very thin and uneven. I get a lot of compliments about my length and how much my hair has grown but I am very unhappy with how my hair looks overall.

At this point of my journey I am not concerned about my hair getting longer. I would rather have thicker BSL then to reach MBL having this thin and stringy hair.

I'm very satisfied with my progress. I went from shoulder length in June 07, to Almost BSB in February 2008. Chopped to about 3 inches in February 2008. Now in September 2009 I'm almost BSB again.

I dont want this to be a sad thread, but I'm just curious. I see alot of you have been at this for a long time and still arent completely satisfied with the current state of your hair. I for one am unhappy. But I cant blame anyone but myself. I started this journey in 2005 with Neck length hair. I was able to get to APL in 12 months....and then I stopped with the TLC. I really thought I was hot stuff with my little old APL hair. I was getting stares, compliments, and a whole lotta attention from Men so I said, "to hell with all that bunning." I wanted to wear it down EVERY DAY and started blowdrying twice a week and pretty soon I ended up cutting alot of it off and starting over at shoulder length.:crying3: Now my hair is back to where it was when I stopped before(APL), but had I never stopped in the first place I KNOW I'd be BSL+ by now. I could slap myself:spank:

So whats your reason for not being where you thought you would by now? What set backs or road bumps have you hit along the way?

I like to know how did you get from Neck Length to APL in 12 months?

I know my major setback has been consistency and patience. It's like I want results in like 2 weeks  And I never stick to something long enough to see major results. I see results but not major results like Neck Lenght to APL.

I am going to get back into the swing of things starting yesterday. I am currently Neck/Chin Length. I am so unhappy at this point, I don't even know what kind of hair goal to set. So I say by the end of December, I just want to have longer hair that I can see is visibly longer. Once I see that, then I think that will make me feel better and get me set on a major hair goal.

I went natural in the fall of 2006. I joined lhcf in feb of the same year, but only really started taking care of my hair externally and internally during the summer of 2007 or so. Right now the longest layers of my hair are just a smidgen beyond collar bone while I have some shorter pieces (notably at the crown) that are around shoulder or so.

Frankly, I think my hair should be armpit length with the shortest layers at collarbone length. But oh well. THe health of my hair is good...I think. It just gets so darn dry sometimes, like I could light a fire with it. For the most parts, I keep it in braids because I am in school and it's just easier for me. If I could grade my hair I would probably give it an B. I am hoping for at least 10 inches by may 2011, which would put me at the ta-ta covering length of bsl. That seems doable, right?

Though I just joined this site I've been treating my hair for about one year and a half and it only grew about 1". My hair grows extremely slow. My hair is very healthy, soft, and shiny but I wonder why my hair has problems growing if it's in its best health.

As I read through this thread I noticed that people aren't happy with their growth. I would love to have any of you ladies growth. I don't think people understand slow growth. When your hair can go a year or a 1 and 1/2 years without any growth then you would understand. If your hair only grows at a maximum of one inch a year then you would understand. I never had long hair and when I was younger my hair stayed at ear length. Today, the longest my hair has ever been is chin length.

What is your regiment?

I wash and condition twice a week and moisturize with palmer's olive oil then I twist. My hair looks nice because I get compliments and people ask me who do my hair, so I know I'm doing something right. My hair just doesn't grow as much. I tried using grease on my scalp but that does nothing but make my hair dry and brittle.

Do you have any breakage? Sometimes having grease on the scalp retards hair growth.

Are you drinking enough water and taking vitamins? Whats your diet like? Are you anemic?

Its great that you do protective styling.

I almost never ever receive breakage. I don't even do the grease because I find out a while ago my scalp and hair doesn't like it. I drink water all the time and I prefer seltzer water and I do take vitamins (Maxi hair vitamins). I'm not anemic because I take physicals once a year or every two years. Actually, there is nothing wrong with me internally or physically. When I was younger my mother wash my hair once a week and put baby oil (mineral oil) on my hair and scalp. I don't think that retard any growth. I can't figure out why my hair just doesn't like growing.

Hmm, maybe try Biotin or something, I am not familar with Maxi vitamins.

It's funny that someone started this thread.

I was lamenting the fact recently that I'd been a member of LHCF for 2 years and still hadn't reached my goal of full BSL. However, I was going through some old pictures of myself on Facebook, dating back to early 2008. I was SHOCKED to see that my hair back then was not only shorter but THINNER! But as the photos progressed, so did my hair, especially starting from late 2008 to the present. Just goes to show you a picture is worth a thousand words...

At any rate, it made me realize that the reason why my progress was so slow is because I didn't realize how damaged my hair was and it took a looongg time for it to recover from that damage. Plus, I didn't successfully nail down my regimine until spring/summer 2008, and since then, my hair has been doing beautifully.

Currently, my longest strands of hair are about 1.5 to 2 inches from BSL and I've been retaining length a lot better, so hopefully, I'll see my hair growth goals realized sometime early next year.

Have you straighnted at all? Maybe you just havent noticed the growth because of shrinkage. If you are washing, conditioning and twisting it sound like you are doing everything right.
